Which characters were very good and lovable at first but you start to dislike later ? It could be because of a behavior they did or the anime may have done them dirty.

For me it's Mitsuboshi from Happy Sugar Life. He was like the only lovable character. He was very kind and all but later

Light Yagami. He became more interesting as a character but you can call that negative character development.

I’d probably go with Eren quite honestly, but maybe there are others out there that beg to differ

I think OP meant character regression. Becoming bad is still character development even if it is negative.

In terms of characterization Midoriya started out as a good protagonist and turned out mediocre later.

Well actually you can call Light's character development negative in that way too.

Isuzu, Kyo, Yuki, and Kureno from Fruits Basket

Isuzu never realized that dumping Hatsuharu was a huge mistake.

Kyo never became mature, he was too shy and never faced the truth that he just kept teasing too much romance with Tooru.

Yuki had such a childish behavior and he he is coward whenever a situation occurs around him. He's similar to what Kyo is doing.

Kureno is always glued to Akito and never want to leave her alone. Not even Tooru could do something which made me so disappointed especially with the first 2 episodes of Fruits Basket The Final lacking character & story development.
I had enough after Ep 2, concluding that it'll never revive to the way the show was during the 1st season.

That actually is part of it, since it was the logical way for his character to go.

Character regression means going in a illogical way - for Light it would've meant suddenly going back to just being cocky, from his god complex ways, without any incentive to change from others or himself.

Changing back to his old character would be classified as regression.

Can't remember any anime where such a thing happened but literally every single character in Kyo Kara Maoh manga, they started as pretty interesting (except Wolfram) but were later reduced to 1-dimensional fujo-pandering tools with zero personality.

maybe Raphtalia from Shield Hero. She started off as 2nd MC and by the end became generic harem member

also let's be real, Asuna's character heavily regressed from the beginning of SAO lmao. Especially that scene where all the girls were fawning over comatose kirito and she just joins in despite being his literal girlfriend like wtf, on top of that she goes full love rival against Alice even though she's his literal gf like wat????

Literally all characters of Oreimo at the end. That really was painful, to watch all development get thrown away.

"Negative" character development is still development, just one that you don't like. The opposite would be a character, who doesn't change at all imo.

Wel, at least for me, "The opposite of character development" is still somewhat "Development" as you see a noticeable change in the character's personality. I think the most famous example would be a character of Mha. Manga Spoilers btw.

That is character development. Character development is just knowing more about a character (including how they change). A character becoming more evil or unlikeable is still character development. The only thing I can think of that would be "reverse character development" would be a character becoming less complex over time, like in bad sequels where the characters are reduced to surface level imitations of the originals.
Shoot first, think never.

Gohan (after the cell saga)

he had so much potential and development that was wasted in the buu saga just because he wanted to focus on some books.

+1 to this, Light Yagami, who basically lost all of his intellect, and Eren.

Hm, I didn't start to dislike her, but I guess Mayu from Elfen Lied fits the description. In the first episodes she seemed like an important character, but later she was just... There.

There is no such thing as "opposite of character development", because any change in character's personality is an actual development.

But, if you are talking about a character turning from good person into villain, then:
- Ordinary Person/Swindler from Akudama Drive starts like a random person, who just was in the wrong place in the wrong time, but by the end she becomes a full fledged villain and her actions caused more deaths indirectly, than anyone in the series.
- Satoko from Higurashi, who went full yandere for Rika.
- Eren Yeager - decided to start a war and other edgy shinenigans.
- Light Yagami - his God complex becomes more severe over the course of the story and became more and more unhinged.
