Has watching anime made you want to travel to Japan?

Here's my story. I've never traveled outside the US, something I'd like to change before I die. I could probably list a dozen international destinations I'd enjoy the opportunity to visit, although realistically it's unlikely I'll make it to more than 2 or 3 of them. Before I became a big anime fan (<5 years ago) Japan was somewhere down that list but not near the top. Now however it's easily one of my top 2, possibly #1.

Has watching anime made you want to visit Japan? Or have you actually done it, and if so, what was your experience?

Of course, if you live there, you don't need to visit. Maybe you have an opinion about "anime tourists" visiting your country.

Not just travel there, I wanna be one with them, or live there. :>

Unfortunately, I have no experience in traveling to Japan, Heck, I don't even travel far from my room.

well not really, because i don't usually judge anime the same way as i do the real world. mostly because anime makes japan look like heaven when there's actually loads of problems there.

Yeah true, but for me their culture, environment, and the people there in real life are like heavens and angels compared to my homeland.

Still tho, like you said, there'd be tons of problems there too, like absurd work papers and such.

yeah it definitely did. watching anime generally made me more interested in learning about not only the japanese culture, but also other countries'. plus, watching anime also made me embrace my own culture, as i wasn't really the proudest of being asian.

It's definitely increased my want to visit Japan. But I've longed to visit it since being a fan of Kaiju (and some of their other) movies. And also just seeing how they incorporate different everyday technologies in their day-to-day life, from News/Documentaries.

I live in Hong Kong, where almost everyone has travelled to Japan, and I've been to there twice.

Anime is one of the reasons why I want to travel to Japan, but it's not the only one. There're a lot of things that are attractive in Japan other than anime, like food, sceneries, traditions and fashion. Of course, it's a good chance to buy many figures and go to anime exhibitions if you travel to Japan.

Anime made me more interested in Japan's rich culture . Is anime one of the reasons that I would go there ? No not at all .

I wanted to go there for a long time because of like Pokemon stuff but now its more than that. The biggest problem would be Yu-Gi-Oh TCG cards cant be used in an OCG setting

Well, anime made me interested and look into Japan. But anime isn't really the reason I wanna visit Japan. The nightlife and food makes me wanna go there.

Well yes. But that's not the only reason. Even before i'm into anime/manga, i wanted to go there.

Perhaps the main reason is because my school japanese teacher got accepted for scholarship in Japan. She's one of my favorite teacher that time and, yeah, i think that's when it's all started.

I have always wanted to visit Japan but it wasn’t really anime that made me. I love food so I always wanted to visit for food. Now food and some theme parks and maybe buy some manga and that’s pretty much it nothing special.

It has made me want to travel there. Just to get some cool experiences there and see what everything is really like.

Definitely wouldn't want to live there though. That would be more headache than a simple sight-seeing vacation lol

I would love to but it's too expensive, I don't have a passport, and I would have to learn some Japanese which would take awhile. I do, however, plan on learning Japanese whether I visit Japan or not because why not

It did make me want to travel to Japan.. and I actually went coming up on 2 years ago now for the duration of a month during the cherry blossom season!

It was a fantastic experience and I checked off almost everything I wanted to do. I took part in hanami (cherry viewing picnic with alcohol basically) with a couple of local Japanese and a bunch of travelers, I got a fantastic view of Tokyo from the mori art museum, I sang more karaoke than you could imagine (one night a pair of Japanese guys dueted Angels Thesis), I bought a copy of shonen jump, I "drank" those gooey cans from the vending machines, I fell in love with iced green tea and Pocari Sweat, I heard the going home music play over the neihbourhood loud speakers, I bathed in around 9 different onsens, I visited beautiful temples around Kyoto... and of course I geeked out around Akibahara. Honestly best month of my life, I'd highly reccomend anyone to travel there.

In fact I liked it so much I plan to go over to teach and am seriously thinking about moving there long term.

10/10 would Japan anytime.

How does Anime make Japan look like heaven? Most of the anime I have watched either have something along the lines of suicide or bullying.

Even some of the most popular anime that takes place in Japan like JJK shows some of the problem with Japanese society.

most? it's very rare you get those types of anime. look at how the scenery is portrayed in some anime, for example in Your Name, which makes Japan look like heaven with its amazing artwork.

Well aesthetics and culture are completely different things. Japan looks amazing in real life too.

Nah, not really.. If I'd like to check something - I'd just do it on the net.. It's same with any type of traveling, really.. I don't find seeing thing in real life more fascinating or anything than on the internet, even if I did travel to some countries.. I'll waste lots of time, when I can do something else, what I like in that time..

No, not really.
I seriously doubt that Japan is a real life representation of anime, and even if it is, I'm not sure I'll want to visit it. (What happens in anime stays in anime and that)

Anime has indeed made me want to visit japan at some point.

But I don't want to visit Japan for Anime, I want to visit Japan for it's rich, interesting an different culture than the one where I live.
I think it would be a waste and a shame to go to japan solely because of anime since japan has so much more to it than just that.

Seeing all the festivals, beautiful landscapes, traditions and historical events in anime which often enough are real events, really made me fall in love with the culture and history of japan.

Anime hasn't gotten me interested in traveling to mainland Japan itself, though the possibility of finding tons of cool retro gaming stuff has.

The anime series Umi Monogatari has gotten me curious about the Ryukyu Islands, though.
