THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
The fight agains Hyunkel still goes on, he was able to talk with the soul of his adoptive father, very moving scene. This skeleton gave up on his job because he wanted to take care of his son, this is very unprofessional... I'd rather die while working than take care of my child. Hadlar did the right thing, I was cheering on him at the office, good job!
Dai is retarded, he finally decided to use both magic and swordskill, this is stupid, I feel ashamed to animate such a dumb character even though if its unrelated. The fights looked very nice still.
New foe to fight against, Hyunkel sacrificed too. Nice terminator 2 reference!
Still a good way to begin the day, we discussed this in office, we had fun even if some coworker insulted me because I didnt enjoy it.

Great episode! The first worst arc has ended! Don't misunderstand, I mean it's great but the worst of all arcs in Dai no Daibouken. Again, I LOVEEE this pacing, NOT ANY FILLERS AT ALL, absolute faithful to manga, muchhh better than the old 1991 anime with TOO MUCH fillers and dragging scenes.
Btw new cast was revealed:

It was a great opportunity to develop Hyunckel but also Dai which was really impressive
But wow that Flazzard's attack at the end, I guess he's the next opponent especially in the next episode

Exciting conclusion to the Dai vs Hyunckel fight! It reached lots of emotional peaks during their fight with the two being almost like a mirror to one another with how each grew up. Dai was pushed to his limited and beyond having to use new some magic and then fighting unconscious at the end combining is sword with magic. Hyunckel saying that someone would have to be beyond human to do something like that.

Maam coming in super clutch delivering that soul shell. Learning the truth about Hyunckel father brought in the feels adding even more depth to his character. Hyunckel father not being killed by Avan but instead the hero sparring him because he knew Bartos had a child whom needed him. Hadlar showing his cruelty as usual killing Bartos for his so called weakness, which was actually the strength to ask Avan to raise Hyunckel. Avan knowing Hyunckel hated him but raising the child with love regardless.

Of course it couldn't be all sunshine after Hyunckel realized his mistake, another bastard in Vearn army just had to show up. Flazzard the blizzblaze General coming to ruin the heartwarming lap pillow scene. Hyunckel going out like a hero saving our squad. Now while Dai and the group search for Leona hes got his sights set on them after Hyunckel perceived failure.

Sucks that Hyunckel is gone. He looked like a very cool guy to come along knowing he had information withheld from him. He would've been a great ally. That aside. Dai showcase more of how strong a hero is in the games once again. Looking forward to the next episode.

If there is a reference, then it's Terminator 2 referencing this, since the manga started in 1989.

You know two episodes ago I offhandedly commented that it wouldn't surprise me if it turned out Avan didn't kill papa skeleton, but I didn't think it would actually be the case lol. My how convenient. Good episode though, that and terrible 3d cgi models during some of the fight shots aside. Dai's combo Zapple/Avan Strash made up for it. I was starting to get worried with how all over Hyunckel Maam got though, I ship her with Pop damnit! I was thus actually relieved when he died in the lava. All that was missing was him giving a thumbs up to the T2 soundtrack on the way down. Still, as absurd as it sounds much like Crocodine part of me wouldn't be too shocked if he somehow came back later on, but I'll guess this is it for him. Now on to the fire/ice guy whose name I haven't bothered to learn yet, Flazzard I think? The way that one old man general could tell how pathetic he was going after credit was a pretty nice insult. That guy is probably the most interesting antagonist left imo.

Good episode

But I don't like that Subtitle changed Raiden Strash to Zap Strash. LOL. Raiden Strash sound way better

I hope that they won't change (minor spoiler)

Also, They censored Flazzard middle finger. When he talked about Princess Leona, he pointed out his middle finger (in manga and original anime), but 2020 censored this.

Adventures of Dai manga did it before Termnator 2. So if it's a reference, T2 references Dai.

Oh shit, Hyunckel joined Crocodine and his father to the afterlife? Damn, never expected such a scenario. I thought he was surely joined Dai to took the real revenge against Hadlar. After that emotional flashback, and those lap pillow thing. Well, guess, i just wrong from the beginning.

Flazzard already revealing himself to Dai, the next enemy to be defeated. Oh well, at least the next will see Leona again, so i can forget what happened here. Despite, the epicness of Dai comeback, smooth 3dcg battle sequences, Hyunckel end surely hitted me with the most impact. Farewell....

Imagine an enemy that has high defense and immune to spells.
So a sword attack that deals physical damage is useless.
Spells are also useless.
But a sword attack that deal elemental damage will be effective.

Two episodes for the price of one. The cgi fight was great at usual. This time Dai defeats the general without having recourse to his dragon crest but the "Mera Raiden Strash" was really powerful.
Now starting the best arc since the start of anime.

I never had any problems and still don't have any with the rhythm of the original ^^. There are no fillers to speak of. He just takes more time to present the characters, their psychologies and motivations. The best example is the courage of Pop which is much better brought up since its evolution is more spread out over time.

Hyunkel state it himself. No human can use sword and magic at the same time. His armor isn't immune to a combined attack of the two. We could say it doesn't have time to negate both damage.

So epic! I love Hyunckel so I'm sad, but I'm still optimistic about seeing him again, maybe crocodile will help him?

Anyway, look like half of the six demond leader are not evil, and what's interesting is that Dark Lord Vearn must know about this, he might just want to amuse himself by putting half good and half evil army under his command.

RIP Hyunkel. At least he knows the truth that Avan was not responsible for killing the monster raised him instead it was Hadlar. Dai went into a trance after taking nearly a direct hit from Bloody Scryde chanting "Sword and Magic" and some how he was able to infuse his sword with fire which was inflicting damage to Hyunkel's armor. Hyunkel tried to go for the Bloody Scryde again while Dai was caught in a binding spell, but Dai was able to call the Lightning and infuse it with the flaming sword. Dai struck Hyunkel with a more powerful version of the Avan Strash and shattered Hyunkel's armor completely.

This victory is short lived when Flazzard showed up and caused the extinct volcano to erupt around Dai and his party. Hyunkel sacrificed himself to have Dai and his friends escape the volcano before being consumed by the volcano's magma.

Holy shit man that episode was insane. Dragon quest Dai is definitely one of the best shows this season. That Dai v Hyunckel fight was sick, then his sacrifice at the end.. goosebumps man. I guess realistically he was always going to have to die to atone for what he did as a commander in the dark army, but I felt bad he never got to live free of that hatred until the end.

God what a fantastic episode..
- Dai vs Hyunckel fight.
- The CGI surprisingly was great during the fight with the camera movement.
- A tiny peek of Avan Awesomeness + the truth about Hyunckel's father death.
- Hyunckel change of heart scene + his sacrifice was the peak of this episode.
easy 5/5.. we are in for a nice treat if Toei continued the delivery.

He just follows the footsteps of true chads like Vegeta or Hiei by killing irrelevant weaklings, redeem later and still end up being a fan favorite.

Best moment of the ep was when he socked Poop real good, I might have to make a gif out of it later

I love the episode to the core ! , they are truthful to the original and to the manga with too little changes (Yes, I am looking at you, Berserk !) So Seeing this anime come back to life and hopefully see it animated to the very end is making my child heart ten times bigger !

Also I have no info about episode 14 , is it done for now or there is a release next week ? Someone please inform me.

I think I have finally found out what exactly has been bugging me about this series and why does it look more "childish" compared to the 1991 version. It is not the art style (look at what they have done to my boy Flazzard! He looked like a toy XD) or the lack of blood, or the animation, it is the dialogue. The dialogue seems so stupid and forced sometimes, and the faster pacing does not help with that either.
Anyway, the story is only getting better from now on, so let's hope for some improvement.

Hi, fellow Popp fan. To be honest I prefer the old anime pacing. Some of the character development (Hyunkel, Popp, ...) looked forced and so sudden, to the extent it can be hard to take it seriously for first-time watchers.

Very good episode, Hyunckel's sacrifice was epic, the definition of manly. Didn't like too much the CGI tho, now i'm wondering how this fight on the 1991 must looked liked, wish one day a blu ray with subtitles gets released. Also now I kinda understand why Togashi is a fan of Dragon Quest, and I can see how it inspired him to made HxH.
