Very, very basic answer but Clannad After story was just too much. it had the biggest last impression on me, and whenever I go back to listen to the nice soundtrack it had, It always ends up in me crying. its bittersweet because its both cute but also depressing ;-;. seeing characters get torn down from reality is honestly mortifying for my fragile heart
Steins;gate made me cry when Okabe was talking to Feyris in one of the episodes.
there is also Grave of The fireflies, I knew from the beginning it would be sad, but I didn't expect it to hit me that hard. Same with Maquia, the ending broke me down to tears.
I believe there were many times Violet Evergarden made me cry as well.
One Piece had me crying four times. I'm sure one piece fans can even guess which exact scenes.
For some reason School Days made me cry from seeing the girlfriend suffer that much...
I adore animes that make me cry, but school days wasn't one of them, smh

How can I forget that; it broke me down the hardest. Especially since Suzuha was usually so upbeat, and the former events were so happy and optimistic- and then reality..

I think a few mangas before any anime when asked what made me cry the most.
My top 3 in my favorite list (Spirit Circle, Kakukaku Shikajika, Bokurano) made me cry a lot by just remembering them. And of course Ashita no Joe too.
I cry easier when the scene is heartwarming than sad by the way. Sad scene often only make me depressed, Grave of the Fireflies for example.

EDIT: I am correcting my last statement. After seeing again a first few minutes of Grave of the Fireflies, I realize that just by seeing Setsuko again is enough to make me cry like a child.

I was planning on watching the second season. Is it better than the first one?

91 Days, who had see this anime knows that become attached to one of this anime' character is a bad idea, this anime is basically the depressed version of Baccano.
Terror in resonance and Banana fish, basically you could resume these anime whit " if something can go wrong, it will go wrong".
The worst part is that they make you hope.

I've watched all three and all I can say is...yes.

Honestly, the show was more touching than sad, but I think I just had a lot of pent up emotions so the whole premise just made me really sad LMAO

I might be the first to answer with this anime, but it is Maquia.

It took a couple of minutes for the tears to flow, but when Maquia made a long scream...I broke.
I got to my room, ugly cry for 30 minutes...and it was a moment I will never forget. That film broke me hard real bad.

Sadly I haven't cried watching any anime.
The closest that I have come to crying is watching SNAFU season 3 and I want to eat your Pancreas.

I'm not entirely sure but I think it was Violet Evergarden, especially episode 10 because I, just like that little girl, lost my mother at a young age and through the years of growing up I'd always be told how she was looking at me from the sky, and it just hit very close home and I kept crying for hours on end that night I watched that. It was truly beautiful and I'm glad I got to see that episode.

1. Sayonara no Asa ni Yakusoku no Hana wo Kazarou (it did hit me hard the whole time & ending)
2. Clannad (After Story)
3. Kimi no Suizou wo Tabetai (i was ready, but not ready 'how it's done'. Could empathise with MC)

https://myanimelist.net/anime/35851/Sayonara_no_Asa_ni_Yakusoku_no_Hana_wo_Kazarou
might be underrated, but a hidden masterpiece.

I don't cry too much, so not many shows can claim that they've made me cry, but a few definitely have. Anohana made me cry a bit on a couple occasions to my surprise, since I didn't cry at all in the first half, but the second half and ending hit me far harder than I expected.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes only made me cry once, but I absolutely bawled my eyes out harder than I ever expected, and it was easily the hardest I'd cried in a long time, and if you've watched the show you likely know what caused it.

Others have gotten me close but not entirely there, like I Want to Eat Your Pancreas even though I didn't love it, Mob Psycho 100, Gurren Lagann, and Cowboy Bebop to name a few, but those first two are the big ones.

I don't know, it's quite unfair to have empathy with weaker characters regardless of the anime, any reality strikes in to certain episodes is enough for me to be emotionally unstable. though ano hana, definitely made me depressed for a whole straight week thinking about that last episode..

I cried a lot watching your lie in april, domestic girlfriend and made in abyss

I haven't cried but got really emotional watching douluo dalu and Land of the Lustrous

special mention to attack on titans cause I got so damn sad when my favorite side character just died a few episodes after she got introduced ^^'

Love Live for me. It somehow gets more emotional everytime I rewatch it. Even just thinking about some of the later episodes and moments hits me hard.

Clannad Afterstory also made me shed tears but it was only when I was watching the show.
