Wait what? So basically they managed to program that world, basically a full dive VR and that's how they have to solve the bugs? I find that kinda funny, I mean those guys made AGI and can't make an AI to handle bugs, seems legit.

Also this kinda plot twist is what I totally didn't expect, I feel like it went down in my own rating/expectations but maybe it'll turn out to be amazing.

Its almost like in our own world when developers make huge video games, there turn out to be huge bugs as well...

I don't think I have ever been taken on such a ride by a show in my life....after that 1st episode, and watcging the OP I was literally verbally yelling "WHAT???!!!" the whose time....there was like so little to hint to this....to thing the show would just flop both plot and genre like this XD

The start of the second episode was a roller coaster.
We enter it expecting something completly different than what we got and I can completly understand why so many people are upset. But in my opinion it was great, it had shocked valued and solved a lot of doubts while still keeping a mysterious atmosphere around it. It felt so refreshing and it has me hooked. Not your average anime, but an experiment you were part of.
Lots of flashy and fantastic animation. Breaking the boundaries of what an anime should be like.
I will definitly keep watching this anime and see where this goes.

I'm still super confused, but I really enjoyed it.

That came outta fucking nowhere.....

Edit: It's STILL a fighting-for-survival situation for humans, mankind, whatever left of it, is probably completely unaware of what's really going on, that they're part of a game, the aliens or AI here use humans for their benefits, view them as bugs, look down at humans, treat them like slaves(?), take them for granted and if I'm not wrong view the human-survival/Earth situation as a joke, they seem to be the real enemy here except for Kaburagi.
Right now I'm viewing this as a hierarchical society anime, I was surely disappointed with this episode but after a bit of thinking I somewhat changed my mind about it, nothing really changed with this episode, and I'm definitely giving it, it's chance, if there's anything I still don't like about it is it's childish cartoonish style, not my thing.

After the first episode I thought about giving another ep or 2 to see if it would get better. the 3D monsters were and still are hard to look at for sure and what's left to judge was pretty basic.

That's when ep 2 took a very unexpected turn (which I find quite infrequent for a 2nd ep) and had me intrigued for what's coming. Great job show!

It's only two episodes with an entirely original series. The show looks to be something brand-new and it's not some BS videogame isekai or anything. There are still mysteries to be solved and we have no clue as to what the cartoon-y race of people are like.

People already shitting on the show. Lmfao, give it a chance.

I actually wanted it to be a full blown post-apocalyptic world. I'm a sucker for dystopia and post-apocalyptic stories so this was pretty disappointing. Looks like a drop. I'll stick around for the next ep though.

But this is "full blown post-apocalyptic dystopian world", I don't understand which part don't fit those categories?
If you misbehave/broke the rules or you saw something you shouldn't you are considered a Bug and then killed = Dystopia
Humans are endangered species with original civilization destroyed and now they exist just to survive = Post-Apocalyptic

That was a major disappointment. Episode 1 had the show at a 9 for me, the premise looked interesting. This avatar and you're in a game and chip collection nonsense knocked the show all the way down to a 6, and I was really excited for this one. Not dropped yet cause the main character is still great although barely shown in episode 2, but I don't think I can take being that jarringly disappointed much more

And, to my understanding, it's still "all real"; the avatars that are the Gears seem to basically be meat puppets, piloted by the consciousness of the little robot dudes that play the game. The humans are natural (referred to as an "endangered species") and for them this is a matter of life, death, and suffering that most of the botfolk who play as their protectors don't and can't have empathy for. The 'Bot leadership refers to anything it dislikes as a "Bug", and prunes those problems mercilessly both in its own people and among the human population.

If anything, I'd question the bots and their technicolor cartoon world having physical existence before questioning the Tankers being physical or not. But to me it seems like both physically exist in the universe.

With the broken robot found in Episode 1's opening by Natsume's dad moments before the Gadoll attack and the Gadoll lifeblood being the same material that serves as the robot power source, I think we might learn how the world got to be like this at some point.

I think the "technicolor world" exists in the same reality. In the opening shoot you can see the Eurasian continent surrounded by a sphere, and if you look closely you can see the oblong spaceship (called the 超巨大企業 - super giant corporation) hovering on the apex of the sphere. (it's at around the 01:41 mark). Forward to 05:39 and you got another shoot of the ship, surrounded by a bunch of spheres, with little orbs going between the bigger spheres and the ships (probably smaller spaceship). In the distance you can see what appears be horizon and glow of earth from space.

I guess that the tiny robot found in the opening (the first episode at around 00:41), that seem to around 0.8-1 meter tall, are the actual physical size of the "robot" race.

The avatars are probably some kind of clones that are spawned inside the decadence, and they are likely controlled with some kind of neural link. The "cheat" they are talking about is that they transfer their whole consciousnesses to their avatar down on earth, so if they happen to die in that state, they can't break the neural link fast enough to go back to their body back up in orbit.

I'm guessing humanity has fought a war against the robot race, and lost pretty badly, or at least to the point of a large part of humanity being kept as "NPC's" in a twisted amusement park. The robots themselves don't seem to have all of a great time though, more or less living in a communist regime where their function, life & death is decided by the system, or maybe it's just a super capitalistic society where they have been bought by the system and know exists as it's property.

I, for one, was quite impressed with how thoroughly this episode pulled the rug out from under my expectations.

I would've enjoyed this just fine as a decent Attack on Titan-alike, but this stunt has grabbed my attention far more than another show like that would've. Equally impressive is that this massive reveal came in Episode 2, so I'm now expecting even more crazy bombshell twists as we actually approach the end of the show.

The first episode had me really interested. This show looked super cool, and even if it had turned out to be an AOT ripoff like people thought, I would've been fine with it if it kept the enjoyment factor of episode 1. However, right at the end of the first episode was were my first concern came in. When the animation suddenly completely changed artstyles I was a bit worried and then episode 2 stuck with the crazy colourful and cartoony artstyle and I wasn't a fan. The sudden massive shift in the art was a shock and it left my immersion so broken that I struggled to even focus on what was happening. It turned out extremely ridiculous and was just such a far cry from what the first episode made me think this was gonna be. Now I'm not opposed to such a style of animation, I've watched plenty of shows with a cute animation style, but for something like this it makes absolutely no sense. I can't take characters that look so dumb seriously. They belong in a full blown comedy, not something like this. Honestly my enjoyment throughout the whole second episode was so low that I expected far more hate for this so I was very surprised to see how many people in this episode discussion were positive about it. Highly considering dropping, but maybe I'll put it on hold for now and see what people have to say as the show goes on. At the moment I doubt I'll stick with it weekly though. The first episode was a massive bait and showed nearly no signs of this different setting but I'm at least glad that the show didn't lead me on right up until the end before pulling this massive change. At least I won't waste my time and can know to give this up sooner rather than later.

Everything happens in real world.
'Tankers' are humans(humanity remains) who were chipped to prevent misbehavior and information leaks. They just live and work as support while being monitored by system.
'Gears' are human-like(or selected humans?) beings directly controlled by robots from the big corporate spaceship. Spaceship is real and robots are real too.
We still do not know what happens with gear avatar when his robot driver logs out.

There are hints that such setup is not a pure game but rather gamification of oxyone mining. So robots 'work' as 'gears' to get oxyone from monsters. They compete for 'employee rank' and get bonus rewards. Those who fail at work get fired(scraped) with core something extracted. Or demoted from 'gear' to 'tanker undercover agent'(Kaburagi).

There are future plot twists foreshadowed(like symbol Natsume's father found in ep1 may mean something bigger)

Ngl the first episode was probably one of the best first episodes I've ever seen and the second... not so much. I'm gonna stick with it for about two more episodes to see if I come around to the change but atm- to me- it seems like wasted potential by forcing the whole "it's a game/related to a game" thing.

I see that too, but then I have to wonder, what IS Kaburagi? Because originally I thought he was a human that joined The Power, but I guess his regular human-looking body is an avatar that's made to blend in with the humans?

It's his old avatar modified to look more human and blend in I guess, it wouldn't surprise me If there were more human-looking avatars mixed with the humans to spy them, or even the ones who activate and control Deca-dence are likely to be avatars

From a random guy from the internet:

"Okay so lets see if I have this straight

The world of Deca-Dence is real and is reality for humans, however probably long before this point the Solid Quake Corporation, made a defense fro humans which are the gears. And for the gears to work properly they all have extremely advanced A.I and those A.I are the little robot guys that inclue Kaburagi and Mikey. Their purpose is to play as gears and defend the humans. However if their performance isnt good then they'll be scrapped and made into a new A.I that is hopefully better.

In short these AI are under the impression that they're playing a game, bu tin reality they are the last hope for humanity and are in a complex world made by Solid Quake to give them drive to actually do their job. If you dont do your job, you become scrapped. Or if you use a cheat that can actually affect the real world you are also scrapped.

Since the higher up are trying their best to keep the truth of the gears away from humans and the truth of humans away from the gears , people that are seen as a threat to that line are seen as bugs and must be eliminated for society top run well or humanity is at stake.

Tell me if Im wrong but thats the vibe Im getting and Im totally invested in this"

I kind like this theory

I'm on the fence about whether I'm fine with the twist or not. While having the world be some game to robots is interesting, I felt it went on for far too long. I would have preferred Kaburagi being a normal human forced to work with the robots, but I guess they have to humanize the robots somehow.

EP2 is choutenkai! Now it seems that there are 3 layers of world? The world of DECA-DENCE, the robots, and the audience (we can find the message board which probably not belong to the robot’s world)?

In EP1, Natsume's father discovered an abandoned robot and said that the world was really wrong. What he said affords much food for reflection.

Gears are the robots, and Tankers ares the human beings in DECA-DENCE. Moreover, human beings will be implanted into the chip by the system. If one is judged as a bug, he will be eliminated. However, Natsume is judged dead by the system because of an accident when he was a child, so that the system will not detect the bug.

Robots are the property of a company, and can also be replaced. From the words said by Kaburagi’s teammate who wanted to release the limitation, it seems that if one’s ranking is not good, he will be replaced at any time. In other words, the robots also have their own feelings and do not want to be in the pocket of the company. Kaburagi feels that his life is meaningless, which may be the reason why his remaining 175 years of activity are exhausted. (just drained all his energy?) Or maybe it's just because he've been fighting with Natsume present, and he've run out of energy? This depends on the development of the plot.

Kaburagi didn't want to live at first, but he felt the existence of Natsumi (bug) may become the key to destroying the disgusting system, so he decided to continue to live.

So the follow-up may focus on two people fighting against the system.

I am still in shock after watching the episode. I was not expecting that twist at all and I am honestly so much more into this anime now. I already loved it from episode 1 but episode 2 adds a whole other layer of complexity and mystery that I am so excited to see play out.

Also, episode 2 really solidified how this anime is the most Studio Trigger anime not made by Studio Trigger that I've ever seen. That kind of plot twist and art style twist is totally up their alley.

I must say though, it's pretty funny to see people freaking out about the art being "too cartoony" for them.

I can't understand how can people call this "trash" or start dropping it after JUST 2 FUCKING EPISODES. Literally, we've seen nothing about what this anime has to tell us and you just drop it and give it low scores. How can you score something you havn't watch yet?? You might not like the concept, ok, I'm fine with people having different preferences, but giving it a 2/10 or so now is as stupid as calling a movie a "master piece" after five minutes.
People disliked the first episode because "it felt like a rip off". And now they dislike it because it does something "new". Am I the only one looking a contradiction here??

I don't know you guys, but I actually like surprises. After the first episode, I thought (as much as you) that it was some kind of a mixing between a lot of previous animes. Now it gives me something completely different and I don't know what to think. But I do know something, that if I want to evaluate this show properly, I need to watch it untill the end.

With that said, I will say this... wtf just happened?
I liked the surprise. I liked the plot-twist, but it felt somehow... rushed. Like, I would have preferred to keep that last image of the first episode unanswered for a while. I would have preferred to keep the mistery of what was Kaburagi doing and whom was he talking with some more episodes. I think it would be better if the anime gave us some clues that there is something weird in this world in a way to cushion that huge shock...
As a lover of mistery/thriller and sci-fi, this show, spitting this much information in my face, felt almost like an insult, but it is so weird that I can't even respond. I'm not amazed, but I'm profoundly shocked.
I feel like I should love this episode, but I can't... Like I said earlier, I just don't know what to think.

Deca-Dence you proved to be, in such a short period of time, nothing of what I was expecting, and I'm still struggling to know if that's something good or bad.
