To a small extent, since they add bits and pieces of foreshadowing for the upcoming season 2, especially the Frozen Bonds OVA since that is kind of plot-related (revolves around Emilia and Puck's contract, and Puck's oath to a certain someone). Memory Snow OVA is a fun filled past time and can be skipped if needed. |

| This will a fun week 1. Hopefully the people offended by episode 1 mass drop it and we can move on to real business for the next weeks. I'm also interested as to what changed from WN to LN, as I've only read the WN. And how much of arc 4 we'll get for real in the first episode, considering there are leftovers from arc 3. |

| It might be me only, but man this episode felt so flat compared to when I read the LNs for it. The Crusch-Rem dialogue was shortened by a lot, the visuals were below par and even made that final moment of episode 1 look more flat than it was at the LNs where it looked really well drawn (Subaru's painful expression in particular). Felt sort of rushed too. Wished they went with a proper 40+ minutes for this rather than 28. Just mentioning it here too since I am a LN reader and since LN readers are okay here with talking, wanted to just tell that here. |

My qualms were already there from the start because I've never liked how the story elements were conducted or orchestrated, especially the character work and shock value. Plot still feels convoluted. First episode was okay with the pathos but it's not particularly impressive compared to other shows I've watched. |

I'm not comparing this to the shitty s1 of ToG, though. I'm referring more to my overall personal feelings regarding the series in its entirety based on what I've seen so far. Sure, I see the upcoming endeavors for story and character improvement, but I can never really connect with it despite the show being a high point of interest, regardless. |

| The only thing that felt flat for me was some of the dialogue. REM’s speech about Subaru when she was fighting the Witch cult. Maybe because it’s been so long. That felt so corny to me. It’s odd because in the LN it feels so honest and heart felt. And even in season 1 dialogue never felt out of place. I mean stuff like “demonic like a demon”, and rem whole speech in ep 18 were so well done. It could have been really cheesy but it wasn’t. I rewatched a couple times I think it’s mainly the music while good idk....didn’t fit that scene and how I envisioned it in my head. The epic fantasy fight music over her speech. That whole scene didn’t hit how it should have hit. Honestly if it was completely dead silence when she was doing that speech would have worked way better. The hero spiel on top epic fantasy music was just too much. Edit: I just realized they didn’t include this line in the anime “ I wish when he realizes I am gone, it could cause a small ripple in his heart.” It was just grunts. That’s why it felt so cold and off for me personally. |

| 1st episode down and it was neither bad or good in my opinion. The LN seemed to have a darker tonality for these parts that wasn't clearly conveyed over to the anime... it wasn't completely lost however. We really start to dive into the meat of the new season starting next week! The fight scene I think was handled appropriately as an introduction to Regulus and Ley! Looking forward to seeing Garf! Hope his excessive language gets carried over! XD |
