My favorites from an aesthetic standpoint are Hidamari Sketch (Honeycomb being the pinnacle), The Tatami Galaxy, Mononoke (2007 series), Ping Pong the Animation, and The Tale of Princess Kaguya. Yeah, if it's visually strange or unorthodox, I probably like it lmao

The five star stories looks absolutely gorgeous, they even animated hair like strands of hair, it looks amazing. It's kinda shoujo with dem big eyes and feminine features but it works.
I'm not a fan of yuasa but I admit that kaiba depicts an alien environment pretty well, the chase from episode 1 is a treat for the eyes.

I can't post pics on my shitty smart phone, too time consuming so sorry

Aesthetically speaking, I don't even know why this forum exists, because the most aesthetic anime is Violet Evergarden.

I really like it when a show is successful in developing some kind of aesthetics, and maintains it throughout the show.. Some names that come to mind are:

  1. Pretty much any Satoshi Kon film My favourites - Perfect Blue, Sennen Joyuu.
  2. Bounen no Xamdou and Flip Flappers Ghibli-esque art with Imashi-style animation? Wow. Just wow.
  3. Kemonozume
  4. Shigurui Some of the best facial expressions, gore and madness I've seen
  5. Yesterday wo Uttate This anime uses superbly realistic animation to give its characters consistent mannerisms. These are paired up with top notch voice acting (HanaKana and Legoshi from Beastars) to produce some of the most well executed anime characters out there. Something that comes really close to this, is another Doga Kobo work - Tada-kun wa Koi wo Shinai
  6. Last Exile - diesel punk has never been so real
  7. Shaft stuff - How can we forget the facial close-ups, jarred angles and brilliant CGI integration?
  8. Aku no Hana - This was meant to be rotoscoped. Nothing else would have done the source material justice.

Of course, KyoAni has pretty much set a gold standard in this game. Whatever would the world do without them

i'm seeing the same answers (and new ones) all over so I'll drop something you guys haven't seen or ones you missed out yet.

Metropolis
Steamboy
Akira
Lupin III - Fujiko Mine to iu onna
Rurouni Kenshin: Tsuioku-hen
Hunter X Hunter (1999-2008)

Interestingly, you may ask why on the last one. The 2011 reboot might look like the more appealing one than the old series in modern standards, and while the HxH reboot might have those dope fight scenes and clean sakuga esp. in Chimera Ant arc, it never had the same goosebumps, crafty sound design, tension, and cinematic factor the OG series had. For those who haven't seen the '99 series, I highly encourage you to do so and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Those with dirty minds will find my Steam pic offensive

In the top of my head I've got:
Mob Psycho 100

Promare

Demon Slayer

Monogatari Series

Madoka Magica

Violet Evergarden

Kara no Kyoukai

Actually pretty much a lot of stuff by either ufotable, Shaft, KyoAni, Trigger, Ghibli or Shinkai are the pinnacle of aesthetics.

Like a million come to mind. Anime can be so diverse and beautiful. It's hard to pick the singular most aesthetic for me.

Anything Ghibli. I love Spirited Away. Mononoke and Mushishi also come to mind. Some others;

Sakurako-san no Ashimoto ni wa Shitai ga Umatteiru

Ghost in the Shell

Violet Evergarden

Kara no Kyoukai (these gifs aren't great)

As far as story-telling, some shows that I thought had really good stories were Death Note, Vandread, and Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken. There are others as well, but these are three of the shows that come off the top of my head.

I thought about including Yuu Yuu. I had such a crush on Kurama from all of the aesthetics that went into any scene where he's using any kind of power. Makes me miss older anime.

Redline is also pretty gorgeous, super unique visual style.

One of the most beautiful shows I've ever seen is Shitcom. The first time you look at it it might seem ugly, but when you think a little deeper about it you will feel like you got teleported into the mind of the artist/writer. The animation and art style are both 10/10 without a doubt. When you watch it you will appreciate the art even more. I think the artist is smarter than Einstein roughly seventeen times. I recommed Shitcom from the bottom of my heart!

For me, aesthetic is as much a narrative element as it is visual, so I hope these aren't weird choices.
Kino's Journey (2003) with its sense of intrepid adventure but with the contact wariness of danger in the back of your head.

Samurai Champloo. Combining the Edo period with the aesthetics of hip-hop was a work of genius.

Adolesence of Utena. More so than the tv series, I love the bolder fashion and colour choices for this one.

Bakemonogatari. The crazy people's classic that goes just about everywhere.

[Some Hounourable Mentions]
Ristorante Paradiso's warm, sensual tones.
The Night is Short Walk on Girl, being whatever you're supposed to call Yuasa's style.
Soul Eater's neverending punk vibe.
Yuru Camp's comfy everything.

Part 4-5 JoJo , what an eye candy and satisfying experience for me . It's so colorful and the face detail are also great.

Mob Psycho 100 , the comic artstyle is amazing , even if I watch it in 360p resolution

Shield Hero , enjoyed it very much

Mononoke ( the Medicine Seller, not the Princess ) - it's been on my favorite list's top spot since i watched it, never came across something quite as beautiful, it's simply amazing

Honorable mentions:
Gankutsuou - very unique visuals, might not be for everyone, I loved the look of it
Monogatari series - not everything but there are quite breathtaking scenes here and there that I enjoyed a lot

To not repeat any already on here,I'd choose California Crisis

too bad the story was all over the place, it's quite a neat (and obscure) OVA. The music's dope, and combined with the artstyle of the anime, just scream city-pop 80's aesthetic

also, if you like Redline, I suggest Dead Leaves

I find that older anime with quality higher than I would expect tend to impress me greatly. As a result I think these sorts of anime come to mind when the topic of 'aesthetically pleasing' is mentioned:

Kaiba
Planetes
Metropolis
FLCL

I admit these choices not quite the most impressive visually when you compare them to many of the title brought up in this discussion, but they impress me nonetheless.
