man the pacing this episode was so fast,if they replaced rak and the'' red guy'' screentime with something like quant speech about baam it would have been a lot better.afterall they didn't do the prologue of the series justice and one of the main problems is the director i mean other peoples in the production team have done a really good job at their fields.i really wish this season is profitable enough so they can do a better job next season if it even happens.

They should have remove Ed and add that quant speech (they did it in 6 ep btw).

Okay I like Endorsi a bit more now, especially after she fought the ranker. However, Hoh was prettier than her and now the muddafukka is dead. He was my tan bishounen cutie with a horn.

Didn't expect Rachel to get stabbed.

Red-haired ranker is meh. Hoh was best tanned boy and always will be.

let me guess copying techniques?

Well, technically a copy skill like Kakashi's but if we go deeper into Baam's real abilities, there's more to that and I am afraid, you'll get spoiled. Haha.

Let's just say, he can "adapt" to almost anything that has been thrown at him and he can "absorb" them at an insant. Hence the one that was used against him will eventually become part of his system. The result is he "copying" the technique/skill/spell.

Unfortunately, the last scene was butchered compared to the manhwa. It had a lot less weight. Basically, in the original there were spear bearers trying to hit Quant while Hoh was holding Rachel. So, he hit Bam with the shinsu, being sure that he won't be able to replicate the skill (since Quant needed many years to learn it), hoping he will just distract Hoh while he knocks out spear bearers. Then, Bam actually doing it had so much more meaning, and Quant wasn't a person that doesn't give a fuck, but he actually wanted to save Rachel.
Nonetheless, ep was still fine, I probably wouldn't have a problem with it if I didn't know the original. However, the entire "shinsu will always be the unexplained water" thing is annoying me more and more each episode. That fucking water bubble was atrocious.

They skipped A LOOOT!!

They should put emphasis on how shocked Quant was when he saw Baam using the Fast Skip like it's nothing.

Baam should be called "monster" on that episode 3 times

1. By his teammates when he blocked the ignition weapon
2. By Quant when he "copied" the Fast Skip
3. By Hoh because he's envious of Baams talent

Plus they did not mention that Fast Skip is a very difficult technique to learn and it is impossible for Baam to use it on that moment. But in anime, Quant just give it away to Baam bcoz he wants to catch the "tag" of team B which is non-sense. It would be better it they keep it close to the manhwa.

They're ruining this show. It makes me feel sad and broken. :/

Man they jammed so much stuff into this episode again, it just isn't as impactful and dark as the manwha imo. Seems like anime only viewers are enjoying it which is good, but to me, the Manwha is vastly superior.

This episode was definitely the best so far but, I can definitely say that the manhwa is still vastly superior to the anime but, the anime doing it's own thing isn't bad either it's still great in its own way.

This episode was just SO BAD... why did they try put all that in just one episode? It was so obvious that this episode was rushed because of the weird cuts and lack of continuity.

I swear that if anyone else calls Bam "cute" again, I'll just assume this dude is Brad Pitt but without ANY personality, I don't know if it was because of the cuts they made or because Bam has the same amount of personality as a rock, I was really expecting something when Rachel was almost killed but no, it felt like it didn't even matter. And that reminded me of that episode when that girl tried to kill Rachel a few episodes ago and Bam almost killed her in his rage mode... I'm not sure how to feel about this inconsistency.

And about Hoh, yeah I was surprised that he killed himself but... I can't fucking believe how cheap that scene was, did they actually to get any emotions from that backstory that came out of nowhere? That was just so dumb and as superficial as a generic anime can get. Talking about dumb and generic, I have to mention that Ranker, why did they make him look like such an idiot?

The fight scenes were just as bad as always, Bam is just getting to the point where I think this anime would be better off without him. This episode would've been way better if it the pace wasn't this bad, it was just all over the place. At least the story and the twists were looking interesting but it was so poorly executed...

Every one complaining about everything cut... Of course dialogue was cut. It is an anime adaptation. If we want more webtoon anime, this has to succeed. And in order to succeed it has to hold the attention of the "anime only" fans. TOG is super dialogue heavy. If they include every line we would still be watching the first fight on 1st floor. Everyone has to accept, just like a book to movie adaptation, that lines will get cut for pacing, drama, and action. They are doing a great job. If you want a more fleshed out and in depth story, go to the manwha. Just line LN adaptations, the print form will always give you "more". Chill.

It seems that the situation has reversed in terms of what audiences is liking the anime. At the start of the season, all of the Webtoon readers were defending the anime saying that it will get better as it goes along since many anime viewers found it slow, but now it has gotten better and most anime viewers are enjoying it, but the webtoon readers don't like the way it is being adapted.

I don't think the Webtoon readers understand how much filler and unnecessary explanations there are in the Webtoon (especially in the first season). SUI has a fetish for spending a chapter to explain an overly complicated game that will probably only last two chapters (e.g. the 'rugby' match).

Just because something is a bad adaptation doesn't mean that it is a bad anime, just look at Koe no Katachi, that is a pretty bad adaptation since it missed so many things that happened in the manga, but it is still a great movie regardless. For me at least, if they adapt the epilogue and the twist before that well then I will find this to be a pretty good anime. Though if they make a second season I hope that they make it 24 episodes so that they can adapt that arc well in it's entirety.

The worst episode of the series so far. The execution of the scenes feels cheap. The build up this past few episodes to this is meh. They keep giving infodump but previous episodes does not give answer to those. I think the direction of this series at fault like the director does not know how to portray the scenes properly. The art and animation is getting bad. The forced cop out is unnnecessary. And the comedic in between serious scenes is breaking the immersion tbh.

I heard that the anime skips and cuts. Thats to be expected when the studio is small time and mediocre staff.

Overall the conclusion of this arc is bad and underwhelming.

The test ended being completely from the participants more than the organizers, Quant was used for Khun and Androssi’s interests. The fuck, that two with Hatsu were completely trash. So much going through Ho’s head, he didn’t know what to do in the end, so he ended his life. I didn’t catch who sent him the letter, Androssi or the red-haired girl. The fuck with the giant that disappeared when Rachel got stabbed, the poor Rak is looking for him, maybe, something related to an ability, Rachel, or a guardian.

Not really sure what people expected from Bam, I mean his backstory says that he lived in cave all his life. His only source of knowledge was Rachel's teachings (i.e. don't betray people/women etc); Bam's pretty much a naive kid, who knows nothing of the Tower Politics.

Wow all that cuts in this arc... Just explaining the mechanics of the game answers questions people have like Quant not saving Rachel even though power-wise he's stronger than Team B. Whoever did the storyboard or whatever pretty much didn't care about the world building in ToG. But not like I can blame them since they're trying to cram 70-ish chapters in 13 episodes...

If any Anime-onlys are curious about the cuts but don't have time to read the Manhwa in Webtoon checkout AniNews Tower of God cut content for each episode!

i actually do agree with your partially, however even if they don't explain the rules in detail,
they didn't explain anything about shinsu or bangs or anything, or how everyone has powers like they do etc, how everyone is able to use bangs to attack or how many bangs they could make,
its like if hunter x hunter didn't explain the specializations of nen properly or what types of nen is good vs what,
very important rules of light house bearers or wave controllers or aspects of roles where not explained or left out, they also didn't explain what the reverse flow was properly.

I quite enjoyed this ep, even though as a non-manwha reader it continually is obvious that the pacing is all very over the place. That's basically the forums in a nutshell - that the anime is a disappointment to the source material. It seems like a very developed world, but tragically crammed into a short season; it'd be nice if it was a longer anime (i.e. Like Black Clover?), but I guess it'd never fly budget wise (thanks Crunchy Roll). Also art would take such a heavy hit.

I feel no remorse for Hoh. It's a dog eat dog world as Endorsi already knows, and he definitely got the short end of the stick but from the very beginning they already showed his true colours. Samurai guy did the same thing; tried to offer a grain of alliance (after historically being a closed off arse), only to get betrayed.

I'm curious if Endorsi is still considered a traitor at this point, since her team's all over the place. After all she did manage to capture the badge as promised.
Seems like Baam has made enemies with the Test Administrators and powerless. Poor kid. Baam, don't you know? Tests are almost always a scam. cough AP looking at you.

Did he? In the webtoon Quant just said something along the lines of "keep that shinsu circulating in your body to form a bang and use it to save Rachel" then ran off

ye he gave Bam a nice shoulder tap and then he could move again. Even if the shoulder tap didn't do anything per se, the time that Bam was paralyzed was far less than the time Hoh was so that wouldn't add up then

So does Quant actually go off and deal with the others in the Manwha or does he just stand their in awe of Baam and somewhat arrogantly as he waits to fight Endorsi?

Meh episode. It was just all over the place.
Bam is so annoying. Like, he seems to have the emotional range of a tea-spoon and has no personality whatsoever.
And Hoh's suicide scene lacked any kind of impact for me. How do they expect me to care about an underdeveloped character who spouts his sad backstory for a few seconds before dying.
All of the fights were very underwhelming except for the one with Hatz, the only one I felt for anything in this episode. The Ranker's character is lame and Endorsi's scenes and dialogues are cringy.
The story and twists have been interesting so far but the execution is bad.

Nobody is supposed to care, at least I didn't care when I first read the webtoon. It isn't an emotional scene, it just sets the tone of the tower where weak people gets stomped by the strong. The whole episode was based on this theme and strategy weak must use in order to succeed(underhand methods/betrayals). And there is Bam who doesn't accept this reality. So he'll understand this in a hard way, this was the first blow but not the last.

Second time I see Rachel being used as "damsel in distress" material in order to make Bam move his passive persona. Is this how things will be every time the kid needs an inch of character development?

Another poorly executed episode. A fair amount of events occurred yet the studio ended up rushing the pacing of most of them, leaving little-to-no impact in the process. Truth be told, I appreciate that the comedy was toned down (just a bit tho) in order to emphasize the tension between scenes but with such fast pacing, it didn't really help much in the end.
At this point, Kevin Penkin's OST is the only good thing about this show I look forward to every week.

Team B's teamwork was a total mess with so many traitors between their lines yet they managed to defeat the so called Ranker dude via Endorsi alone. Honestly was expecting something more demanding from him in this trial but no. He ended up losing in a rather pathetic way, I must say.

Hoh's death felt rather underwhelming as well. They tried to add more characterization in his last moments in order to make his character feel more tragic but it didn't work. By the way, maybe I missed something but if Bam was such a threat to him, wouldn't have been smarter to go directly after him considering how naive he is? Anyways, now the thing I wonder is if it was Khun the one who sent him the letter...

Now regarding Bam, I can't help but get frustrated every time with how passive and naive he is. In previous episodes, he almost obliterate Hwaryun for attacking his beloved Rachel but now that she got stabbed in a quite dangerous place, he cares more about Hoh and the fact that he never considered him as a friend. Seriously, this kid can be awfully exasperating sometimes and seeing his character developing at the speed of a turtle doesn't help in the slightest.
And of course he would learn and master the Ranker's technique he only saw once. I should have seen that coming but well.

Kind of a weird episode with a lot of changes from the source material. Although it ended the same, I don't think it made as much sense here. Well, the only issue I had is that I feel like Quant got downplayed here... actually he even kinda felt like a different character, but other than that it was a fine episode.

Also, where's the "she got dumped"? xD

The thing is during crown game they completly changed what happened. Bam lost consciousness , he did not try to harm anyone.
So it is fault of adaptation that you see those 2 moments as inconsistency.

It sure is sad, but impact, I'm not sure as the episode was only supposed to feed the bitter reality to the audience. I think most of the webtoon readers didn't care about his death at all because it wasn't that emotional in the original too. You're not supposed to cry for a character whom we knew only for 4 episodes with little screen time. Yeah, you can sympathize.

quite a few things happened this episode. Khun sure missed a lot when he was sleeping. Really sucks that Hoh died. I liked him. But I'm glad that B won. It was a good episode. Anime started to turn into a darker thing. I expected Bam will go rage mode after seeing Rachel like that but he didn't. I think that's a good thing, creators wanted to do something different but honestly Bam needs to show some determination. He could have saved both of them if he were more quick-thinker. Also I don't get why is he holding back either, he is not traumatized with his abilities or something like Mob. It's about being naive, I guess.

Yes they cut dialog but in this case that not the issue. Whole scenes were changed that would normally create tension. But as they had not created the tension it roomed impact.

They also need to work on the making of better fight ToG has many unique fights but so far the fights have been So-So. 13 episodes really was not enough time to complete what was necessary for season one, as well to amp up the excitement with epic moments. They were just not able to do both.

Man i will be honest. The writing and character interactions are one of the worst from the popular series. Its worse than many seasonal trash anime that keeps airing every season. Everything just happens. We get a small pill sized character background for a character and thats it. No world building. No character development. Bad animation.

God I was planning to rate this a 7 at some point but it keeps getting worse and worse...

All characters' backgrounds given in this episode justified characters' actions. Take the example of Ho into consideration, one can understand from his background that he lacked the power to protect his friends, and because of this, he became jealous of Bam who had inherent talent.

Alright, this episode was really good.

I don't read the webtoon, so from an anime only watcher I liked it a lot.

Again the only problem I have is when they say"I already passed the test".

This tower is a plot coupon, explains way all decisions when it feels like it.

9/10. Plot holes be damned, I really enjoyed this episode for what it was. Overall enjoyment matters more to me than plot for these type of shows.

Alright, this episode was really good.

I don't read the webtoon, so from an anime only watcher I liked it a lot.

What plot holes are you seeing ?

Best episode so far, im not gonna lie. Quant really like a fool here, by get easily fall into double trap there and before, is he really a Ranker? Still, Yoru always do shit, and the suicidal was unnecessary. The best scenes here only when TRex searching his buddy without any hesitations to watch the TV.

It is all because of his voice, xD. In the manhwa when he was blasted by that green energy from the sword he was even kinda cool. lol

Haven't read the source material, but it's definetely more than just voice. His course of actions is pathetic one.

He enters the tower for a specific reason - finding his girlfriend. Considering he knew full well how dangerous it is - you'd think he will be more pro-active in achieving his goals. He finds his girlfriend in ep 4 or 5, and yet hasn't made even a single step in approaching her and talking to her. Ep 10 and he still didn't talked to her. If i didn't knew better i would have assumed someone kicked him onto this path against his own will.

I know that effeminate and passive MC's - are somewhat of a cliche in anime, but daaaaamn Bam takes this to the utmost extreme. Deku has nothing before this rag of a person. And Shinji is a freaking alpha chad next to him.

Sorry but showing few still images doesn't make me sympathize to the character. I didn't get the feeling to care about any of them

Although its still poorly done, it was the best episode so far. Episode 9 still has the same problems as the previous episodes. It does not have the same fundamentals as the original source.

Episode 8, Quant randomly decides to jump off the cliff with Khun made no sense as they did not explain how the lighthouse works. Now at episode 9, again, when we just saw Quant could stop Hoh's suicide with ease but decides not to for no reason. Every important action in these episodes were not plausible at all because the anime does never present the essential, fundamental elements of the tower (e.g. lighthouses, exact rules of tag game etc). It is already becoming one of those 'go fking read a mange or manhwa' thing. Anime itself is incomplete.

However, I could see they are trying to show us the nature of the tower through Hoh, Endorsi and Bam. When Endorsi talked how she killed all the sisters and explaining being brutal and ability to betray the others is essential to climb the tower, Bam said he could never do that. This was a clear comparison to Hoh's situation. Including Hoh, most of the regulars are destined and forced to have brutal natures and sometimes, forced to even betray the others. The reason is simple. They are weak.

Because they are weak, they are forced to betray and become brutal. Endorsi, Khun, Rak, Anaak, Shibisu, Serena and many others are not exceptions. If there's one, it is Bam, who has the least amount of determination to climb the tower yet he is the most talented guy out there who is not shackled by these unseen dark rules of the tower. If he does not want to betray, then he doesn't have to unlike the others like Hoh. Hoh saw this right through this was frustrated enough to commit suicide. He was weak enough to be insightful. Such an absurdity, and is indeed interesting to see such absurdity is arised from the protagonist. Honestly, I liked how they tried to convey this dark nature of the tower (although they missed Quant's line about Bam but meh. Ever since ep.7, I lowered down my expectation). Overall 4/10.

Whew, what an episode; betrayal was definitely the name of the game! I'm actually quite sad that Hoh is dead. I'm definitely more emotional about his death than Rachel's potential death... I dunno why, I just really don't like her. I'm curious about why the Silent Man disappeared when she was stabbed... hmmm...

That speech the thief girl made when she was sitting next to Hoh's body was so sad. It kinda got me chocked up. Does anyone know her name by the way? I don't remember it being mentioned and can't find it on the net

Serena is her name
