Oh, a part time job..interesting.

That Minato guy also has kinda interesting to see with his passion of photography. In fact, I actually find this episode quite refreshing with Haru and sharing her own interests. Haru's personality continues to grow in this show that I'm very interested to see more and more.

Every episode gets better and better for me. This continues to be my fave show of the year so far.

[When you’re out with your girlfriend and see your girlfriend](https://imgur.com/a/PK1Fwzg)

[Pouting Haru is too kawai](https://imgur.com/a/Z6gzgff)

Minato was smooth as butter with asking Haru out. He took her to the spot where he was most at peace, doing the thing he’s most happy doing(shooting photos) and asked. Even though it didn’t work out, that was smart. Wish him nothing but the best. A king.

I loved that this episode forced Uozumi to confront how he feels about Haru. Even though he didn’t say anything explicitly, having competition enter the fold made him at least consider what she means to him and to what extent he likes her. Pressure was applied and he responded.

DG have done an excellent job with this so far and hope it continues to the end. If it does I can definitely see it going in my top 10 :)

This show is getting better with each episode.

Rikuo got another part-time job.

I liked that Minato guy. Too bad it didn't work out for him. That picture of Haru he won the prize for was beautiful.

I wanna know more about how Haru really feels, whats going on deep inside of her. It must be strange to be the person who rejects after all of her attempts with Rikuo.

Rikuo starting out his new job at a photographer's gallery, and in comes a rival: a man called Minato, former classmates of Haru's before she dropped out of school.

For Shinako, her resolution to get the past out of her life is affectionate, albeit not in the slighest to Rikuo (who has been shot down few episodes prior).

The small ruse of these 4 characters meeting coincidentally was like a ticking time bomb. And the confrontation of Minato and Rikuo forced the latter to rethink his relationship with the dense Haru (at least in her affections).

Even worse, Minato's "smooth criminal" tactics to ask Haru out to accompany him and his hobby, that's was smooth as heck. As much as Haru acknowledges that Rikuo is the only guy in her heart, Minato, like Shinako, NEEDS a closure to their past chapters and restart their life anew. At least his picture, a portrait of Haru, wins 1st prize.

Pretty calming episode, but the lines have yet to br drawn between Rikuo and Haru, but at least this exposition will lead them closer to each other.

I really didn't expect this episode to be as good as it was. I'm definitely getting the feel for this show. Its more of an episodic show, but that format really works with this show. I also really liked how this episode was more focused on Haru. Shes slowly becoming my favorite. This photographer character was actually such a great and realistic character. Its sad we will most likely never see him again, but that just adds to the realism this show presents. May end up as a 10/10 anime and my favorite of this season. Lets see!

Very nice episode. Not as great as the first 3 episodes, but was a definite step up from last week (which was decent but a tad underwhelming after reflecting on it).

I like this episode. It has a more consistent direction when compared to the previous episode.

Rikuo seems like an asshole because it seems like he doesn't want to take responsibility for Haru and is more focused with doing something better for himself like saving up for a second-hand camera. There is a distinct lack of Shinako vs Haru on-screen rivalry though to warrant the fact that Haru is the back-up plan, but Rikuo seems to care about her, at the very least, pays attention to Haru when Minato is around and expresses slight hints of jealousy.

This episode was a Haru character building episode, (Hooray! Everyone likes more Haru.) at the guise of a side-character short story episode. Minato got rejected like a champ, but I felt that he left some foreshadowing when he walked Haru home for the last time.

As usual, time flies while watching this show and feels too long waiting for another episode.

I'm not expecting Haru and Rikuo relationship develop fast, but man, why Rikuo needs to be an asshole all the time? I really wished she says yes to Minato, she deserves someone who cares about her.

This episode felt so out of place I checked the number to see if I missed some. Putting that aside, I'm starting to dislike Rikuo as well. At first I thought you can feel sympathetic for him, since he seemed like someone who lost his way in life and was stuck in a ditch. This episode he acted like an immature twat that had it coming. On top of that, love interests are getting so convoluted, it's starting to feel more like comedy than slice of life drama it appeared at first. I hope it won't go downhill any further.

It's because love isn't very straightforward. It's always a convoluted mess. It's so rare these days that a relationship can form without corresponding partners having to reject others, break up with others, being rejected etc.

Rikuo rubs the wrong way because, like he said in episode one, "I can't compete with Shinako. That might be why I like her." Shinako is THE ideal girl to Rikuo's mind, that is why he's very dense with Haru's feelings. Which, unfortunately doesn't translate well to Haru. But can you blame Rikuo though, even though Haru does literally the same thing to the other guy?

I really like that, as far as I can tell, this anime adaptation has kept the 1990s setting of the original manga. This is apparent from the Walkmans, cassettes, non-digital cameras, and lack of cellphones. However, someone messed up drawing the backgrounds because the computer shown in the beginning of this episode has a flat screen monitor and what looks to be a more modern pc tower! I’m a little disappointed :(

What was the point of this episode? Idek. But this episode proves that Haru and Rikuo are the endgame. Why is she even that obsessed with him anyway? Where's the drama in this show? All I see is a messy romance.

@ToraiS Actually, I was referring to his attitude towards stupid hat photographer. He was acting like a teenager. His relationship with Haru is another bag of worms.

I'm not sure what do you mean. If it's a romantic relationship, how else could it form?

I FKN LOVE THIS SHOW!!! Anime of the season for me, no doubt!!!

I really enjoyed Minato as a character...I like how upfront he is with his feelings for Haru.
It sucks he's out of the picture now, but I think he helped Haru realize that confessing and moving on is also a valid option.

Rikuo getting pissed/jealous of him was also hilarious to see,
I hope this sparks some change for Team Haru!
Looking forward to more developments

Awww, I really liked Minato! Is it weird that I kinda liked him more than Uozumi? There was just more spark to his personality, even though he was a quiet guy (which made him more endearing in my opinion).

I have to agree with Haru; Uozumi's being an asshole. He doesn't want to admit he has any feelings for her but he gets upset and jealous when she hangs out with another guy? Tut tut Uozumi... make your mind up!

Wow, camera guy won me over in 1 episode. Shame we seem to be stuck with safety-pin instead.

How many different love quadrangles are we going to get randomly encountering each other walking home at night? This is already like 3 or 4 in 5 episodes...are there only two back roads in this entire city?

This show continues to be consistently polished.

I'll be honest, this felt like the weakest episode so far. I don't see Minato as the bad guy that Rikuo paints him to be, but i think he'd work great with Haru, they have good chemistry together, even if she rejected him. Looking forward to next week's episode as usual!

it's that anime has you so desensitised to childish situations that the bare minimum "maturity" applied to any character seems really good to you

Great episode!

The relationship between Rikuo and Haru is slowly developing (maybe a bit too slow?). Haru sure does a nice job teasing Rikuo, especially when the winner was announced of the photo contest, That the winning photo depended on a better model!

Can't stop loving Haru's character, she's amazing!

Minato tried but got rejected, as expected to be honest, as Haru already said, she has become a girl that doesn't know when to give up!! So I am expecting her to go through with it all to the very end!

Also gotta praise these backgrounds, I honestly feel like so much details are being put into these backgrounds!

I could write a lot here but...
I comment on twitter while watching, then I go post on other forums first, and it's tiresome to write so much. Plus english is not my native language...

As the person who talks about how it's comparing to the manga, I point that the anime skipped a whole arc.
Kinoshita have a sister, that goes to the local high school, Haru's school.
She is with a group making a film for the school festival, and she goes to ask help from her brother, Rikuo gets involved because he understands a bit about cameras (the kid are filming on 8mm). During this arc because Rikuo gets involved in an actual project involving photography he reflects about what he really feels about photography. In this episode Rikuo feels much more of an asshole with Minato because of this missing arc. That exchange in the restaurant hurts Rikuo deeply. Maybe Minato was trying to show off a bit to Haru there, but he had no idea how much his words were paining Rikuo.
Why? Because during that missing arc Rikuo reflect why he stopped taking portraits of people. Static images with a photo camera can't capture the emotions he was trying to record. He tried to change to other subject "better suited" for photos and ended feeling an empty failure. Now, rewatch the scene and pay attention to watch Minato talks.
And of course, that he is younger and so resolved about himself and what he wanted to do with his work is something that triggers Rikuo's inferiority complex.

There are other things that the anime skipped, some more important than others.
I expect that the relevant bits will be reworked in later episodes?
It's hard to complain about cuts when for now everything is working so well with such wonderful direction. That time lapse montage of Minato using the tree in front of the gallery as frame to the passage of time in double exposure was wonderful!

Anyway, it's already more than ten years since I first read this arc in the manga and I'm still refuse to fully accept. Even if Haru had accepted Minato nothing would change because he would still left to travel the world, but that he meet someone who really cares about her, lost him, an submitted herself to Rikuo's vile treatment for so long... it's revolting.
It's even sadder when you think how Minato politely "rekt" Rikuo with the competition.

This Minato-kun irrittated me from the start but by the end of the episode it has dawned on me that he was actually a nice and mature guy and Rikou is the one who should irritate me much much more. OK, he isn't in love with Haru and that is fine, but why the hell should he be a dick with her all the time?! I wouldn't like it if the story were going in the direction where by the time he had realised how important Haru was for him the girl had given up on him and it would be too late.

I don't know if anybody here has watched the japanese movie Heavenly Forest (in which the main guy too is studying photograpy), but if this story is going to end like that, that will crush me, trample on me and lastly kill my mood for weeks. Please Yesterday wo Uatte, don't do that with me!!!

A lot of people Call Rikuo an asshole but they're the same people who want him to confess feelings towards Haru WHEN HE'S NOT FULL COMMITTED! He's still clearly in love with Shinako but it's clear his jealously towards guys with Haru is starting to show. Minato was a huge trigger for Rikuo to start to realizing that Haru is in his life. So while his feelings are changing the development in this anime is near FLAWLESS!!!

There were 3 moments in this anime that were super important in my eyes in regards to the development of these characters and their relationships.

#1 When Haru asked Rikuo what he was buying with his 3 month salary we all knew it was a Camera. HOWEVER when she was joking around with him asking if it was an Engagement ring for her...HE DIDN'T SAY NO! I know I know it sounds crazy BUT he also said later on in the episode that he bought a second hand camera. Now I am not so sure what cameras went for back in the late 90's but it is still rather intriguing. (Also he never told Haru what he was buying as well!)

#2. Haru's dedication to Rikuo is a huge relief to me. Honestly I thought Haru was going to accept Minato's request and go out with her. But for her to keep fighting for Rikuo's affection. God it just makes her more of an awesome character.

#3 This moment.

His reaction was all that was needed!!! Just Rikuo looking away and blushing was the perfect answer to this question.

I honestly don't understand what Haru sees in Rikuo. Don't tell me that scene where she picked up his bus pass was the ONLY reason she fell in love with him. Rikuo is unappreciative and keeps pushing her away. He broke his promise with her and stood her up when she asked him to watch a movie, something HE AGREED to. I don't want him and Haru to be together at all. He's a fucking asshole. He deserves Shinako. They deserve each other. He wants his beautiful damaged archetype then he can have her.

We've only seen Minato in one episode and he's leagues better than Rikuo, the man with a fucking log stuck up between his ass cheeks all the time.

Haven't read the manga but considering the pace of the series and just how things are going,

Another great episode. Gotta say this keeps getting better and better, and for some reason I was really hooked by the episode.

Lots of focus on Haru this time around, and it's great. I liked the series and characters overall, but Haru was not a favourite of mine. But this episode made me like her better and I found myself surprisingly rooting for Haru (I was rooting for Shinako), although after watching not sure who I should root for lol.

Initially didn't like Minato, but came to like him a bit by the end of the episode. How he confessed to Haru and how responded to the rejection was nice. Hope he finds what he's looking for, that happiness and getting closer to what he wants.

That photo he submitted was really nice. I loved it. There's just something about it, especially with Haru's face at that angle with that expression.

Haru's teasing of Rikuo was nice.

Glad to see that the appearance of a rival (and thus pressure) made Rikuo actually think seriously about Haru for once and consider what she is to him.

Looking forward for more.

I did enjoy this episode, but Rikou is honestly turning from a sympathetic, lost character to really just an asshole when it comes to Haru. I understand he's jealous, but c'mon, he's just starting to get cruel to her. I think it's fine if he's an asshole to her for now, just as long as the show really brings it to the forefront and has it blow up in his face, not just have Haru ignore it because that's just what anime do; this show seems more mature than that, and I really hope it fulfills on that character arc. Aside from that, Haru just gets better every episode!

Seems some more mature characters enter the scene. Althought it was very short lived, it seemed more of a side story to give it some balance and perspective and this love triangle have more legs. Unforutunately this was cut short as the new character is supposed to leave Japan and we are back to stage 1.
