I haven't seen Tokyo magnitude 8.0 but the plot of this seems awfully similar. However Yuasa's directing will give this series an edge and may suggest that he will add his own creative spin to it. Either way I am still excited for it; 2020 seems jampacked with new series’ that seem to have a lot of potential.

Both are about natural disasters destroying Japan, also the novel released in 1973.

It may or may not offer something new to the audience apart from Tokyo M8.0. Nevertheless, I am looking forward to its release.

Yes, BUT there were no Olympics 2020 before. This new setting is bursting literally into every 2nd fictional story in Japan now. I do not believe it will be any different, except more modern.

Well to be honest most isekais are fairly different.

We just have to see how this goes.

Unless the story focuses more on human ignorance.

Don't watch it. It left me depressed for a week.

Pretty sure the novel this is based on is considered a landmark classic of Japanese science fiction. Tokyo Magnitude probably took a lot of inspiration from it?

If I lived in Japan or on an island (with volcanoes) I would be interested to see it, otherwise it is like watching TM 8.0 with one or more changes

Humans may have two eyes, but we can only see one thing

But anime isn't being made as a promotional series, it's just so happens to use it as a plot point.

Yeah. Because of COVID, I heard the producers changed it to just before the olympics, while not really specifying the year in which they take place anymore.
