When ever I browse social media or watch videos on youtube I see so much hate for millennials. Like millennials are lazy, entitled, they are so easily offended, have no respect for anyone, this and that, etc. Are any of these criticism valid or are they nothing more then mere generalizations and guilt by association that unfairly stereotypes entire generation?

of course it's a generalization, the stereotype exists for a reason though, the generation that is known for creating "safe spaces" for example an basically a lot of things that basically boils down to protecting people's feelings is more important than people's freedoms

eh, i mean, i think the advancements of technology and society makes previous generations jealous. this happens like every generation... for example, i grew up with dial up internet speeds, sharing 100kilobytes per sec with 3 people. i would need to let a youtube video sit there for 5 mins or more, and then watch it at low res. when i download video games, i would leave my computer on for like 5+ days, and pray to GOD there is no disconnections or else id have to start all over again. my friends younger siblings all have ipads and etc, and they complain at the smallest hint of lag when they all have like... 10x my internet speed. I love technology and can't help but be jealous that they get a better head start. "Entitled", yeah, sometimes, but im probably seen as entitled to those more older than me so its fair lol. not all are "entitled" or (x) generalization though, i dont wanna be like that teacher who keeps the entire class in because only a few fuck up.

difference in values. society is always evolving whether we like it or not. what seems right for the older generation isn’t the case for the younger, however absurd it may seem to the older. an experience of the unknown or not understood is uncomfortable. young people lack perspective, older people have it all.

SadMadoka said:I understood your meaning, just disagree with its surface. My stance is you can critique millennial by simply being from one end of the spectrum based on its long range (almost 15 years); some parents out there are millennials to millennials. I don't see what similarities besides the connotation bestowed on those born in 86' and those in 2000 would make anyone think the two would have similar dispositions outright. Not even counting the variance in the upbringing outcomes (those born in the 80s are more likely to be raised in GG or Boomer households, while later millennial likely grew in Gen X households). Nor does it even include gap-generations, who fall in between such time stamps. I get your meaning but think its disingenuous by not considering those inputs in the differences of the two or why someone can even have a differing outlook to critique someone in the same group. Meh, your way is reasonable. Also, no--I don't share my age here except to inform I'm old or young. Atleast old enough to remember 87' and young enough to still get carded. Please don't try again. Millennials are not hated. The OP is just making a silly generalization. By analyzing all what happened throughout the whole human history with statistics you're looking at things with an extremely simplified point of view instead of studying the true philosophical reasons that led to each historical event. Human beings are not mere numbers to be analyzed through statistics; each person has his own unique reasons for choosing to do each of his actions in his life. The works of philosophers influence the way how people think, for better(like is the case with the classic ones, Edmund Burke, and now Olavo de Carvalho and Roger Scruton, for example) or for worse(like Friedrich Nietzsche, Voltaire, and Karl Marx, for example). Philosophy is a good thing as long as it is used to understand human nature in order to improve our lives are individuals. The problem is when it's used as an ideology to deconstruct human values as instruments of power revolving on economy, which gives rise to bloody revolutions. It was by valuing humans as subjects that the most beautiful and influential nations, like Greece, were founded. Whereas it's the utilitarian way of seeing things as statistics that is to be blamed for the communist revolutions around the world, as well for the decay in architecture, in arts, and in morals of the modern society.
