Weirdest way you've ever discovered a new anime?

For me personally, the weirdest way I found a series would be how I ended up getting into the "Index/Railgun" saga. During my days grinding away working on prototyping a video game, I look at screencaps of city scenery to get inspired. One day I was browsing and I happened across a very beautiful panorama shot. TO be exact, I believe it was this exact image-

At the time, I paid it very little mind and simply saved the image with the rest of the ones I use whenever I struggled to try to come up with ideas. After a while, I crashed into the wall pretty hard after about six straight hours of Monster-fueled map grinding, when I decided I'd go look for more images. I found one in particular (though as I look back, I can no longer find the original image on Google) that contained a little more than just aesthetic city scenery. There was.....a girl in the image. Once again, I thought really nothing of it at the time and just got back to work.

Fast-forward a few months (to a time about a week ago) and I'm roaming around my usual haunts in the vicinity of Phoenix, Arizona. I stop in a store that sells a plethora of pop culture ephemera, and as I'm wandering around, I see a figurine that piques my interest. It looked familiar, but I couldn't immediately place where. The thought nagged at me constantly as I stroll down each aisle. As I'm about to leave, it finally strikes me. "That one image I stored in my inspirations folder, that's the same character!"

About $80 later, I embarked on an odyssey to discover more about where this came from. The deeper I dig down the rabbit hole that is the wiki, the more things I find out that bring this into my direct trajectory. Then I caught an episode or two one night, and ya know something? I actually really started to like it. And to think, this all started because I suffered a massive case of artblock.

tl;dr: It all started with a city picture.

I had no idea about Fist of the North Star, but suddenly one night some 20 years ago during a zapping I stumble upon the live action western adaptation, which was so bad and hilarious.

Love Live!.
I stumbled upon the game first. I found it was cute. Then i sumbled upon the live concert in YouTube. And found out it actually has an anime too.
It's weird because the steps of knowing the franchise is kind of messed up.. XD

I'm starting to get embarrassed by my own forum signature line.. XD

I was reading wikipedia article about kabaddi.
I found out that there were some anime that mentioned this sport. chio chan no tsuugakuro was one of them, so I decided to give it a go.

"All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost."

Not much of a weird story, but...

Basically, my introduction to anime as a whole was indirectly kick-started by a high school friend lending me a PS Magazine PS2 Demo CD way back in the day.
It featured demos for various games and i was randomly trying them out when a particular title caught my attention; it was a demo for Fullmetal Alchemist: Curse of the Crimson Elixir. I didn't watch anime at the time, and i didn't even know the game was based on an anime; i thought it was just the aesthetic.

The gameplay was very simplistic, but i was drawn in by the high-quality voice-acting and the interesting characters and premise. I played through the demo several times but, as much as i wanted to know the full story, i never got to buy the full game.

Flash-forward about 5-6 years. I'm browsing through Netflix and i happen to catch the thumbnail for the FMA (2003) anime series. I'm like "Whoa, this is that game demo i used to like so much!" I watch the first couple episodes out of curiosity, "Oh, it has the same storyline from the game!" I get hooked immediately, decide to watch the whole thing and, well, here i am now...So, thank you, old high school friend! :)

I learned about the Neon Genesis Evangelion sequel films from a guy who I frequently saw at a DVD store who had a face full of industrial piercings. Even though I was in middle school at the time, he neglected to mention that End of Evangelion is an amalgum of disturbing, mind-bending, & (as I would discover later) life-changing; insteadーhe sold me on the fact that there was a “really cool fight scene with Asuka in Unit 02.”

I grew up watching anime movies (Ghibli and later Hosoda) but never knew that anime series were a thing (except for the usual Pokemon, Beyblade that I considered to be only toy advertisements). One day I was in the mood to watch a fun adventurous show with a good plot and was tired of rewatching Avatar: TLA a hundred times. I thought to myself that since the Avatar aesthetic is so anime like there must be some shows that inspired Avatar even if they weren't as good. I went on a Google search. Suffice it to say I was pleasantly surprised. Ended up binging first FMAB and then one show after another.

I knew about Idaten Jump and anime in general when I decided to shuffle the TV channels until it randomly stops because I was tired of the usual kids channels I was watching at the time (I was seven years old) and wanted to watch something new. Tried three times with nothing that interested me, until somehow a channel called Animax, a channel focusing on anime came up with the anime "Idaten Jump" airing and I have never felt more interested than I do at that time.

I will tell this story.

There was this one time I was browsing on the internet and I was looking for a plumbing pipe, or tube, I don't really remember what is was. I started to look up things in youtube when suddenly I find this really cute youtube channel about cats so I click on it and I start to look up their videos (They had like a hundred or so videos about cute little kitties it was crazy adorable) When I see this little cartoon thumbnail so I had to click on it, at the time I didn't know what I was looking at, I never really heard about anime before so I click on the video and I stuumbled upon Mew, and the pokemon series.

I thought to myself "oh ok this is pretty cool, I want to look up what else is out there, and I went from searching from plumbing tubes to looking up anime for the first time on the internet. Anyways, I surfed the web a bit when I came across this page (You can look it up if you want) and I see a ton of lists about animes and there was this one particular anime they announced that really caught my attention, so I clicked on the link and it sent me to crunchyroll.com and there I found Boruto which is sort of like a spin-off Naruto and it was so funny I continued to watch it until I finished the anime.

Can you imagine? from plumbing, to cats to anime to Boruto? what the heck hahahaha, anyways, this was my story, I fell in love with anime since then, and low and behold I'm here now

Well, not really an anime series (even though it has an anime series), but I found the Neptunia franchise first by watching a TF2 Gmod video and do I have to say, I was weirded out at that because at that time I didn't even watch anime and seeing the anime girl in a Gmod video is very rare and hard to not make it cringey. It seemed interesting and I looked up where was she really from, but didn't really take any move until I became more fond with anime.

Here's the video for anyone who's interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_k0gPzBXl8

That or Sora no Otoshimono: Forte, found out about it because of the DS Game based on it.

I originally got into Love Live because of Silvagunner's Snow Halation memes. That was the first anime I ever completed. I basically got into anime as a medium because of a youtube in-joke. I feel like that's pretty sad but I'm oddly proud of it.

I discovered gintama when I watched a random video on tumblr as I scrolled through some posts. It's the part where you have to clear each station of the contest and there's this one stage whereby you have to eat an ugly huge ass demonic cockroach looking called pandemonium.

This boy had to eat it but it was too horrifying to look at it and how the hell is he going to eat that. As he was pressured by his teammate to eat it, his lips and the pandemonium's eventually touched with an emphasis on the kiss. He then stopped and confessed that it was his first kiss. What got me is that freaking pandemonium even blushed too like wtf LMAO I swear gintama......but it has become my fav series

I found out there's an artist that posted some yume nikki and yume 2kki fanart on twitter:

who published their own manga that was adapted recently - Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou, and it's post-apocalyptic. The most beautiful yume 2kki parts are dreams of a post-apocalyptic world with the protagonist girl wandering around it, so I got curious if it's similar... it wasn't at all but it was worth a read/watch.

Ok so here's my story:

I was in high-school at had just gotten into anime. I had only finished about 4 series and they were all pretty normal shounen-type stuff. I knew that the Cartoon Network channel's Adult Swim block had anime on it, but I never really cared because it was slow and unreliable compared to streaming sites online. [AS] only had a few episodes of any one series and they were usually in sub (in the beginning I was a dub-only, though now I don't really care). I would still browse it from time to time if only to watch an episode or two from something I had already watched. One time I was watching it cut to a commercial? trailer? or something from another anime and I was like...what the heck is this? It was a trailer to Parasyte, and me not having been introduced to Seinen/horror-type stuff before I was very confused and sort of weirded out. But it still looked very interesting and different from what I had seen before so I gave it a shot.
And then for some reason I got so hooked on it I would be watching it when I was doing my homework or on the way to school or sometimes trying to sneak in an episode during class once or twice. It was so strange and I loved it.

td;dr, discovered Parasyte: The Maxim from a commercial on Adult Swim.

I discovered the Corpse Party game (PSP) last 2014. I think I discovered it from the gameplay in Youtube. When I searched Corpse Party, I found out about the OVA. I decided to play the game first before watching the OVA. When I became addicted to the game, I wondered how brutal the anime was. While watching it, I was trying my best to close my face whenever the brutal scenes came out.

I was traumatized for a bit.

I know there are a lot more anime shows which have gore themes. Some of them are more brutal. But yeah, Corpse Party: Tortured Souls (OVA) really traumatized me.

While I was in Japan, one of the stores was showing this Opening video on the TV, and I really liked it, but I couldn't tell the name of the anime as I couldn't read Japanese, so when I got back to the hotel, I jumped onto a PC they had there. I then when browsing MAL for several hours looking if I could find an image with "A girl with short brown hair, and another girl with pigtails". I eventually found it. It turned out to be Railgun. It had just finished airing in Japan at the time apparently.

my story came from a long time ago I thought, and this is probably the one that affect me so hard to enjoy splatter and gore anime.
in my teenagers days i was a hardline metalhead fan,one day my youtube recommendation show me a video about AMV featured anime called "elfen lied".

i never thought before an anime can get this brutal so i started watching and get hooked into it.

this is the video btw its a goregrind band, a very sub sub sub sub genre of extreme metal this kind of music is not for everyone to hear
