Also bring back the cop/crime genre. The closest thing to it lately has been kekkai sensen but that was over a year ago now. And it was just one show |

By that description basically anything could count as psychological horror. Making the audience feel shocked doesnt mean its a psychological horror. |

Netflix has their Godzilla movies and then there're western Godzilla cartoons, King Kong has American-Japanese animation, those are all I know of that are exclusively kaiju animations. A lot less than animated toku superhero (inspired) tv shows. Special effects, stunts etc. I personally would see possibility taking them to next level with animation with out restrictions. |

| Like, an anime where you get reborn in some other world man. What a totally unique idea that would be. Seriously, I think history is an underdeveloped genre in anime. Sure you get fantasy settings but I can't think of many set outside of Japan that focus on real events. Rainbow: Nisha Rokubō no Shichinin had a great interpretation of Post WW2 in Japan, as did Kamogawa's flashback sequence in Hajime no Ippo. I'm sure none of us will forget Ghibli's Hotaru no Haka. I quite enjoy seeing the old trading practices in Spice and Wolf, and when characters develop our past advancements in crop rotation, filtration and agriculture in shows such as The Ancient Magus' Bride and Maoyuu Maou Yuusha and these weren't even the focus of these shows. Actually Maoyuu Maou Yuusha had an interesting little bit about army formations but only for a single episode In Gate the legions of halberdiers and foot soldiers looked amazing marching together, I think the final season of Shakugan no Shana had a great arc where they were commanding full scale armies. I can imagine a show with full scale armies to be pretty awesome. Unfortunately this is anime and high animation quality of this nature will have a high production value. |

Pullman said: We need more long-running battle shounen. Remember when there were like 4 or 5 of them airing? Now we just have One Piece and fucking Boruto. I (sadly) don't think we'll get much shows like that anymore, the anime industry seems to have, mostly, switched to a multi-season format. From now on I think series like Boku no Hero Academia, Shokugeki no Soma and Bungo Stray Dogs (not sure if that last one qualifies as a battle shounen though) will be the norm. The upside of that is that there will be far less filler and higher consistent quality, the downside being the wait between seasons. Personally I'm hoping for some actual scary horror series and not some boring gorefest, I just can't seem to find any that appeal to me. Most of them I drop before the 4-episode mark. The last show I tried and actually finished was Another and that one felt like a failed Final Destination. |

| Okay, this is not a "genre", but it is an idea. An actual gay main character. I have seen over one thousand anime series and cannot name literally one leading protagonist that is gay, and not taken advantage of and being reduced as a trope. This is most likely because a lot of ideas from a lot of these authors are from sheltered otakus writing the equivalent of self insert fanfiction and they have barely any idea how a character with a different sexuality, written with the slightest bit of realism (which is admittedly vague and nebulous) works. I know it's a challenge, of course it is, it's a balancing act of not trying to piss off people, and challenging yourself to write something out of your comfort zone, but it can work, just requires a lot of research. |
