| I only watched old anime in brazilian portuguese (DBZ, Saint Seiya, Yu Yu Hakusho) and in all of them the dubbing was pretty good, the Yu Yu Hakusho one in particular is excellent with many remarkable quotes. I don't even know if there are many new dubbed anime around here because it doesn't even air on TV anymore except in some channels with very little viewership, and I think that most of the people here that watch anime nowadays see it subbed. But our quality of dubbing is great, there are also many excellent works with cartoons too. |

| Latin American Spanish dubs made by the Mexican are known to be one of the most competent dubbing industries worldwide and since a looooong time ago. Those guys really know what they do. The Colombian and Venezuelan have made some dubs too in this language and they have been also pretty darn good. |

| I don't like dubs from my native language cuz in my native language, we have a lot of slang and idioms so they try to put it in dubs to make it more soft and cool but it always torn out tacky, especially cuz it doesn't suit anime and there is no sense to watch anime dubbed, since the point of the anime is the Japanese dubs and how cool it is in anime. |

Anyway, I'm overall reasonably satisfied with American English dubs. They're probably the biggest pool of dubs outside of Japanese, and are frankly what most people on the English-speaking parts of the internet mean when they say "dubs". Overall I think they've generally trended toward being more and more "accurate to the source material", in terms of everything from translations to voice timbres to delivery style. As if to make up for a history of dubs of children's shows that often changed various things (with mixed results), they're trying to be increasingly faithful to the original performance. This is, surprisingly, a bit more of a mixed bag than one would imagine -- it sounds great on paper, but in practice I think that something that sticks too slavishly to being an imitation of the original performance could instead take a few more liberties and bring the story to life more effectively. After all, the performance is not for the sake of performing, by itself, but it's for the sake of telling a story. |

| I'll watch dubs fairly often, but I admit there can be a lot of moments where the conversation turns all strange and you know that in the original language there was a joke, pun, or other literary device that just does not translate. If there are many spots like that, and I enjoy the show, I'll often rewatch with subs. Not only then do I get to enjoy the show again, I also can see if/how translation affects the story itself. But a good American English dub works for me, most of the time. |

| Well... Latin american dubs are so pretty in some animes, like Dragon Ball, Saint Seiya, Fullmetal Alchemist. I also watch anime with English dubs but, I don't really like it. In my opinion, the original voices are the best, so I allways try to find anime with subs haha |

| English dubs disgust me. 99% of them are unbearable. And to be honest I probably wouldn't watch an English dubbed anime even if the voice actors were good, because there is something about Japanese voices which I now identify with anime. It legit doesn't feel like the same experience without them. |
| Most of the English dubs I've come across sound awful and the voice actors really don't bring out the characters that well. I'm watching Yuu Yuu Hakusho though and the dub is pretty damn good. |

| Is funny to read latinamericans like myself praising (kinda) the american spanish dubs. I just watched the oldies dubbed, and I'd still watch them that way just because I'm used to those voices; but I always preffer original voices over dubs. Not just anime, everything in general, because with other voices it's not the same, at least to me, so I can't jugde correctly. And I hate the stupid nonsense jibber jabber that everything turns in when dubbed in any form of spanish. |

| I still prefer to watch shows in dub, but it mostly depends on the subject matter and setting. If they're heavily eastern cultural based I tend to go for the sub every time since a lot of jokes, references won't translate well over into English. It also depends on the company producing the dub. A lot of people like to rag on Funimation, but I personally feel like almost everything coming from Sentai is trash. |

| I'm brazilian, I think some of our dubs are good i think. But when I watch something dubbed it is usually american dubs. Its not like they're good(some of them are, Like Cowbe or Black Lagoon), but I got used, if the dub ain't completely terrible I watch. |

| My country doesn't normally dub animes, but I saw an episode of Bayblade dubbed in my language. The voice and the lip flaps were embarrassingly out of sync. It was so bad, I would pick the English dub over it. Or even the Indian dub! |

Well, here's the thing (and this is also a message to @captjoe213 regarding jokes not working out right): watching subs isn't watching in the original language, so original language means requiring someone to actually learn the language. As for subs: I was just now watching the first few episodes of Heartcatch Precure, which is subbed-only (as most of Precure is). There was a humorous moment between the two main characters, where Erika asks Tsubomi to stop calling her Ërika-san, for the fifth time or so. It went like this: "Stop calling me -san! If you do it again you're treating me to milk." "Yes, Erika-sa---" *extremely embarrassed* "Safe!" The thing is, that second line? Its humor works best if you have a brief moment between the first line and the core of the punchline, during which Tsubomi erroneously thinks she has corrected herself. Reading the subtitle, however, spoils the joke right from the getgo, rendering the voice delivery mostly moot. This sort of comedic timing is something that a dub can do better than a sub job. |

| @glennmagusharvey that's a very good point, and lots of times they *are* either able to translate the joke or find a suitable replacement that hits the point close enough in the dub version to help preserve comedic timing, why I tend to go dub then subs. But seriously, watch how you like! Now let's all have a big group hu........nevermind. |

That's sad. :( The ones they aired on RTL2 (back when it was still watchable) were usually only dubs of big popular franchises, normal shows usually get a shit dub. |
I agree, most German dubs are really good because they built up a superb voice acting industry from dubbing all the US movies and series. The US and UK on the other hand record the regular actor's voice during the film shooting and that's it, they usually don't need to dub stuff in sound studios with voice-only actors (unless it's foreign or animated). Japanese dubs are also very good, naturally because they produce so many anime but sometimes it can be somewhat annoying to repeatedly pause the videoplayer in order read the subtitles, that's why I mostly prefer German and English dubs if they are available. |

| Usually they're not that good or it is just that I prefer the Japanese dub, however, watched the Cowboy Bebop movie with Ger dub and it was pretty great. The voice actors for the main cast fitted them perfectly. |
