Why are there so much female voice actresses right now? I visit a random talent agency site and I see more female seiyuus. It's suppose to be equal to males seiyuus but it's not.

An average anime this season has a bunch of female seiyuus in it. Is it because there are actually more female roles in an average Anime right now? ...To please male viewers? Because there are more male audience than female audience? Or is there another reason? Share your thoughts if you want.

It's probably due the market saturation of Harem and Idol anime at the moment both usually have a disproportionate amount of females to males.
On top of that women are taking over the roles of young males more and more

Because waifu anime is so popular these days, they need more and more uguu~~ kawaii voice actors to fill the role.

Because there's more female than male anime characters in anime these days. They could just get males to voice female character but that would sound weird.

Also consider that children mostly get voiced by females and there are lots of them in some anime.

Because female idols and stage plays are what nipponjins wants.

It's not like this is something new, it always was like that.

Kinda sure it's a girl. I could be wrong though. She's wearing a ribbon though I'm not sure why she's wearing pants...

This is just a very small part of it but I thought I'd post it here anyway. I've heard a few female voice actors that took the role of a male character and did well on it. Some are even so good that I did not realize it was female until I checked MAL who is the voice actor behind that character but I don't know any male voice actor who took a female character role at all if there's any.

it simply more female also adore cuteness, than male enjoy bishie... as simple as that...

for example, nearly 45% love live fans was female, K-on also has similiar number... was there any male character only series can reach those lvl balance? i don't think so...

Well see it as a good thing. Here in west it´s more guys and less strong woman characters. Like that the Japanese is better at that. (but then we also see alot of weak ass Male characters).

I can´t name so many here in west as like Tomb raider, Horizon zero dawn. (yes i don´t count female super heroes)

Pretty sure there has been more demand for female seiyuus ever since I watched my first anime so what's new? What's the problem? Is this some kind of panicmongering against feminism? I'm not sure I understand OPs intentions.

pgmhecateii said:
Anime fans are mostly guys anyway (this is according to MAL and my school)...so obviously they'll need more female seiyuus.

That's not necessarily true, it's pretty 50/50 in my experience, even on MAL half the people that befriend me are female and it never seemed to me like one sex was way more dominant than the other in the fandom. IRL it's pretty much 50/50 too over the years (tho atm I know more guys into anime, during high school I knew more girls into anime). On conventions I actually see more girls than guys (Yaoi isn't the biggest manga market in my country for no reason xD), while on the internet males have a bit of a majority probably.

You just see female seiyuus often voicing male characters like Goku, Luffy, Kenshin and many more while male characters pretty much never voice female characters so even if the actual roles were equal there would still be more demand for demale seiyuus.
I probably regret this post by now.

because CGDCT = Cute Girls Doing Cute Things, and not Cute Guys Doing Cute Things, even if male idol animes are apparently becoming more popular lately. Just look at this thing, it is somehow very popular in japan currently (but maybe it's just by being the shadow of an other cute girl show)

I don't think that's why. Shows like Durarara, Kuroshitsuji and K Project (Which are not male character only shows of course. But it's obvious that these shows' elements are more appealing to women than men) also has a balanced fan ratio iirc.

I think the main reason is because there are so many harem anime coming out every season that nobody even watches (I don't understand how they're able to afford it with 6 people watching) and they usually consist of a lot of girls and 1-2 guys.

it need to be noted that light night series used to be more male oriented while female more catering towards live action... manga is more balanced, when even like that, most famous magazine for female readers is still weekly shounen jump which proven my point even more...

ironically, shows you mention is in fact shounen (at least, the manga adapted by it is shounen)... my point is that female is more tolerance to male oriented shows and the medium (anime) adapted by audience prefference.... it has been like this even before harem was a thing....

Although I don't remember this character from Handa-kun, Sousuke is strictly a male name in Japanese, so I suppose with that there are no feminine female character voiced by males, unfortunately...

I wish, at least, they would stop casting female VAs for male characters...I never understood why they do it anyway

Genres that have more female cast than male are popular right now. Animators are slowly becoming predominately female as well as mangaka (note: many CGDCT are written by females). I'm not concerned since they also tend to make the same stuff male mangaka do anyway.

I suppose that is the case, but what I am having trouble understanding is why not employ regular male VAs in that case? I do realise not everyone's voice would be a great fit for young-lings and teenagers but we can't really say there is insufficiency of male seiyuus that can take on the role as well ...
