| Hio, I don't understand why there aren't many sports animes with female protagonists. Guys get stuff like Haikyuu!!, Kuroko no Basket, Ookiku Fukirabutte, etc while girls get sh*t like Keijo!!!!!!!!. I didn't watch it but what I mean is that they don't ever take female characters seriously enough to give them a proper sport! Are there any nicely animated girls' sports animes? Thank chyu!! |

| It's a matter of demand, titles like Haikyuu and Kuroko get anime because both boys and girls can enjoy it, guys like sports and shounen, girls like hot sweaty boys doing hot sweaty things. While things like Bamboo Sword or Keijo are more debatable. |

| Well according to MAL, Chihayafuru is a sports anime which centers around a girl who likes this card game called karuta, which was introduced by a transfer kid who later became her best friend. They played the game together with the addition of another boy until suddenly they split up (i think?). Anyways, its kinda like a dramatic, slice of life anime. I'm not sure that would count as sport but it's a good watch with two seasons or if you dare to... there's always Ro-Kyu-Bu!... |

| Karuta, the game played in Chihayafuru, is intensely physical despite being a card game based on famous poems. It's nothing like any card game you've seen. |
| Karuta is not your typical card game that's all about strategy, It's very physical and relies a lot on speed. Chihayafuru is definitely a sports anime and one of the best out there. |
| this is a stretch but it says that Kidou Tenshi Angelic Layer is categorized as sports. It's a battle game using dolls controlled by their owner. |

| Princess Nine is pretty solid, it's a baseball anime with a team of all girls, but it does date back to the late 90s and looks its age. I'll second Taisho Baseball Girls, another decent baseball anime though I prefer Princess Nine. |

| Chihayafuru is REALLY good. I thought I would hate this game (karuta) too but it really add something else to the anime. The female MC is awesome and not sexualized at all. Very good anime 9.5/10 |

| @Sparkyon I've started watching it and I like her too! So far, she doesn't seem like the annoying type of tomboy (which is being overly violent and no intelligence). |
