Ah yes, this was the perfect place to end it, with Bondad ominously looking at the lights.

I really do hope the next bit of the manga is done as a movie or as a series of OVAs or something, because shit gets real intense afterwards. Possibly even another season would work if it is paced properly.

This show is an easy 10/10, brilliant music, art, animation, story and fucking everything about it

Wow , big hype for a season 2 or a movie about this !
Is there the same story (i mean on the last episode) on the manga? (10/10 anime)
16 peoples made missclic ?

Episode 13 adapted Chapters 23 & 24 .
The anime was very faithful to the manga.

As for your question of a second season or a movie...
The release of chapters is a bit erratic, slow at best-

As of now only four chapters have been released for 2017.
Long story shortened- The manga is at chapter 42 and holding....

(The official English release is almost two years behind btw)
Wow ok thanks for the info :/

Oh god, Mitty was so cute before the incident. Did she look like an adolescent Ponyo to anyone else? As such, watching that transformation was truly horrific/up there with episode 10 in terms of disturbing moments.

I was really worried that Nanachi was going to back out of letting Reg kill Mitty, despite it really being what she wanted. (I mean, Mitty's last words before she lost the ability to speak were "Please...kill me...") I'm very happy she went through with it, despite it being hard to watch, and that Mitty's soul is free.

I'd heard that Reg would get a boner eventually, but I wasn't sure if they were going to put it in the anime. They did. I'd hope by now that everyone's gotten the pedo accusations out of their system and can see that it was a pretty amusing moment/a natural thing to occur for an adolescent boy. More tasteful than that Big Mouth show that just came out on Netflix, that's for sure.

Reg, Mitty, and Nanachi's adventures will continue...that slimeball from before wants to meet Nanachi again. I need season 2.

NOOOO MITTYYYYYYYYYY !!!!! T_T

The feelings I have tried in the first part have been so intense that I was almost disinterested in what was seen in the second part, though important to history. With this special, the series ends in a really worthy and great way. When the balloon came out of the abyss, all my attention was focused on it, breathing a sigh of relief for the success of her journey.
In light of what I have seen today, instead of giving an 8, I give it even more, so my final vote is 9/10.

Okay, then explain the slow-panning shots of Reg in soggy underwear? Or having a fucking hot springs scene at the end and mentioning that he gets an erection from seeing Riko naked?

And why would there need to be realism in that sense when the entire plot revolves around children for no reason other than it being sadder when horrible things happen to them? Why is there an entire compound of unsupervised children just waiting to be plucked by some nefarious Antagonist clad in black for his gruesome experiments? Yes, the realism is palpable.

Ah it was a wonderful finale. And an emotional one at that.
The parting scene with Mitty was hard. But glad to know her soul finally rests in peace now.

The premise and direction till first three episodes was good. After that it turned into a mediocre piece of work. Not saying it wasn't good afterwards but just seeing such an exciting theme and how well it was executed initially, I just can't help but feel it could've been more better, had it been more about a casual and easygoing adventure to the abyss, while exploring some of the beautiful and mesmerizing scenery out there. It felt like a potential gone to waste considering how well structured the world building was. Props to the guy was in-charge of the key background art. I've read that he was patiently waiting for this opportunity to deliver something this great.

Also, while I sing praises about the anime's art, the soundtrack shouldn't be taken lightly. Good art and music goes hand in hand and they compliment each other very dearly~
Oh and I loved the scene when Riko and her gang sends out the parcel skywards and we get to see its own little journey to the destination. And it's none other than their friends who picks it up. It was a nice touch~

... Because it's kawaii? Yeah. And do you've something against hot springs? (Besides them being overused- But this one had a more original environment.) Now Reg's erection? That's a natural thing, lel (and again, it's cute). Why not tell simply because you don't prefer to see? It's not necessarily of bad taste. It's not like they're defecating; we're already not being shown that; although I'd like to see at least a scene where that was a concern, in their adventure. Because these needs should get in the way, as they can.

There are many other reasons besides that one, for the protagonists to be children. Out of the story, similarly to that reason you mentioned, there's younger characters simply being more likable. Within the story, and still within a realistic extent, there's simply the possibility of a girl like Riko deciding what she decided, and being let free to do so by her caretaker.

Has it never occurred to you that those in care of the children could've been paid and/or threatened? Bondrewd was a man of power, due to his relics.

Definitely sleeper Anime of the summer season. Absolutely loved it.
Mitty and Nanachi's story was sad as heck, and the resulting request and task that Reg was made to perform, as well as the aftermath of that, was too damn emotional. Props to Nanachi's VA for that performance, it was masterful to say the least.

Seeing the end where the message that they sent back up to the surface managing to connect with every single character that they'd met on their journey so far, really made a great impact (as did the overview of the town and the crater as a whole, it was beautiful).

Really hope for a second season of this. It really deserves one.

Wow, that was quite a wild ride. Indisputably AOT.

Nanachi and Mitty's backstory had me floored so much I cried. These two were through so much, but thank god Mitty was put out of her misery. And just to be clear – screw you Bondrewd.

I really am looking forward to the second season, since, well, the adventure seems to have just begun. It can't just end like this!

Pain, sadness and happiness, an episode full of feelings, brutality and new doubts, with this anime I felt the joy and the despair, I forget literally for 48 minutes that on screen I watching animated characters, fictitious ... created simply to develop a story.
Made in abyss shows me how beautiful the anime can be.

Amazing episode.
10/5

This scene reminds me of Boku Dake ga Inai Machi, when Kayo Hinazuki eats for the first time a meal prepared with love. An scene that breaks my soul and fills me with happiness.

What? Riko didn't get to see Mitty and missed by just a two hours!

From the moment I saw they're gathering children I found some experiments is going to be done on them and with that big elevator (do they still have it?) I thought they want to put strain of going up on them together but that happened later for them individually. Wherever there are experiments going on, there are tragic things to happen.
And so Mitty became immortal, what a sad thing which I don't like. I never understood how regenerating bodies work, they don't eat something and regenerate it, creating matter out of nothing!
Ascending is about losing humanity and become immortal? didn't ascending kill? Do they want to make someone immortal without losing humanity?

Bondrewd is psychotic, maybe Lyza had stopped and ruined Bondrewd's plan.

6th layer is dead end? no light? nothing further?

8/10

As a non emotional anime watcher, this one almost made me tear up. The crying of Nanachi was one of the most heartfelt cries I've heard in anime. 'T was a pretty alright final episode, not too graphic or too ehh

I grew attached to Nanachi so I'm glad she got a lot of screentime this episode.
Pretty fascinating to finally find out about her backstory.
No tears were shed.

The part with Reg, Nanachi and Mitty did cause me to shrug (unfortunately Reg's hesitation kind of ruined the moment for me. For the second time.)

Deserves a sequel. I'd prefer a TV sequel over an OVA/Movie sequel.

I hope it sells well enough and gets enough people talking.

I'm really curious about how the people at the orphanage responded once they got Riko's and Reg's messages. Plus I'd like to see how the adventure continues.

There were tries. She wasn't the first. It wasn't 'fate'. There were other kids there in her same situation. It could've been them that this happened to. (But yeah it appeared too coincidental for both Nanachi's successful transformation and Mitty's rare gift to appear at the same time.)
The features she gained aren't exclusively a rabbit's. It wasn't improbable for her to gain these more-nice-looking features; but yes, it was more due to it being preferred. And if you observe her more, she's not really 'impossibly cute'--her features really worsened, objectively speaking. Just check her hands and feet. They're brute-ish--of a being having a adapted to harsh environment; a human's is much nicer. The ones finding her cute are those that learned to--those leaning towards having a fetish for it. But even so, her face kept more human-like, by not having a snout--so what's really making her nice-looking is these bestial features being light, and she remaining a good part human.

Well at least that blob was a decent creature capable of being cared for :3
Now for my actual comment.

HELLO DARKNESS MY OLD FRIEND. It's fine, I didn't plan on feeling good or anything anyway, and my day has been going way too well. Nah, first half hit hard as heck with it's focus on Nanachi and Mitty's backstory and the death of Mitty, may she rest in peace. But the second half for the most part was chill and made me happy, I mean, for the most part, still had a few moments, like with Riko's dream and all, but for the most part, it was nice.

Also that bath scene... was glorious. And I would really like to rub Nanachi... a lot. especially if shes gonna get all embarrased, that just triples her cuteness levels.

Anyway, episode ultimatley wrapped up this part of the story and brought the season to an end beautifully, and with a WHOLE lot of feels... Got teary eyed after Mitty was sent off to the afterlife, which is a lot for me since I have never cried watching an anime before.

Really glad I watched this anime. 10/10.

Damn, Mitty had a hot little body with tits and she turned into one of Junji Ito's works. How old were they supposed to be then? Why does Mitty have tits? They look like children.

They transformed pretty quickly. I thought it would be a gradual, day to day or monthly or yearly progress but no, it was BAM! Mitty's transformation though. My heart felt for her, how she suffered, how they experimented whether she would die or not and Nanachi doing her best to kill Mitty to end her suffering.

Imagine, Nanachi seeing Regu's blast power and thinking, it might a way to effectively kill Mitty once and for all. :( It's so heartbreaking but Mitty DID say she wanted to die before she succumbed completely to the Abyss' curse.

Nanchi also got to taste real good food for the first time. She was shook.

Regu's penis getting excited in that healing lake LOL.

YAY Nanachi is joining them! :D

The overall final impression is great, but there's no denying that the first half of the series was far, far less interesting than the rest of it. It's not just Nanachi in my opinion, it's the darker turn the story took around the time they met Ouzen that made it much better and saved the manga, if such rumours are true.

If episode 10 was already hard to watch, this episode 13 is totally on a different league!

The part where Mitty changed in to an abomination was to cruel to watch!
Riko finally woken-up and is already buddies with Nanacchi.
Looks like the three is now ready to embark another adventure with all those preparations!

I cried so much during this episode, more than I did throughout the entirety of Clannad and Angel Beats. I was at a loss for words when it ended. The music was perfect, the emotion put into every scene was just right. I was hit the hard with the way Nanachi's treasure was keeping her alive, while simultaneously destroying her, and her dialogue made it clear she was planning on killing herself very soon after Mitty died.

As for the show, it's easily a 10/10. Even with some parts I didn't particularly care for (bit too slow in the middle portion at the second layer), this show is wonderfully crafted. Beautiful art, amazing music, and the characters and dialogue are handled with such care that I rarely ever see other shows do. A welcome addition to my favorites.

I really hope the sales of this show turn out to be good, and it continues into another season. It really deserves it.

Great show. It had a shaky mid section with a few average episodes of nothing really happening, but picks up again towards the end with incredibly emotional and probably THE most blood-curdling scenes in anime.!

Agree. I didn't have this much love for this show at the beginning, may be because i am impatient? the show does a good job giving me the excitement of adventure in a mysterious world. all thanks to the world building in earlier episodes but some of those are also episodes that felt slow and uneventful.

Liked that ending. It shows that this is only the beginning of an exciting but dangerous journey.

Yes! I can't wait to delve deeper into the world of Made in Abyss. i feel like the story has just began. I was so sad for nanachi and was glad seeing her pull herself together and go on an adventure with regu and riko - this made a fresh start for all of them after all these ordeals with riko almost dead and mitti's farewell.

we are getting into the darker part of the story and i am excited.

A 2nd season please~ please please do give me another season! continue with the amazing art and beautiful soundtracks! kudo for not taming on the gore and sexual elements like some animes do

great show 8.5/10

oh almost forgot to say so as to vent my wrath. want to punch the hell out of that guy with the beautiful voice of Toshiyuki Morikawa for the victims. to make them gone through this! ROAR. Felt a burst of killing intent when he showed up at the last scene
