I have a colleague that i kind of get along with . Once , he saw me watching Death Note and was very interested . He binge-watched all of it in 2 days and he wanted another anime . Based on what he was looking for , i recommended him Fate/Stay Night . Then , we both watched Pupa (i think this is where i f**ked up , he dropped it at episode 6 ). After that he showed some interest in Tokyo Ghoul , Yu Yu Hakusho and Shuumatsu Nani Shimetasu ka but never actually watched them .
So all in all , i basically didn't talk him into anime , and i never had another chance . How about you ? Have you ever talked somebody into anime ? If yes , with what anime(s) ?

Everyone that's new to anime usually like SAO for some reason, takes a couple months for it to kick in and they realize SAO isn't really as good as they once thought

Nope, I am no jehovah witness and anime is not a religion, so I see no reason to actively talk anyone into anime, and actively talking people into it aside, most people just don't care.

I had a co-worker that would occasionally hear me talking with others about anime while we were on break.
It piqued his interest because of all the variety in world settings, powers and abilities, etc that anime has to offer.
So I loaned him Parasyte: The Maxim. He loved it, and now has his own collection of anime.
You're never too old to watch anime.
If I ever stop watching anime, check my pulse I'm likely dead.

I wake up with coffee & anime, I go to sleep with coffee & anime.

Sorry if my sarcasm is bad, it's not my first language.

My 30 y/o brother. He had a few attempts to watch anime in the past but it was Re:Zero I recommended which interested him in the medium. At first he complained a lot about some anime characteristic but now he enjoying Aho Girl so you see how he evolved.

Oh how I tried and failed time after time. I managed to make couple of them turn into anime watcher but usually people past beyond 25 that don't watch anime think anime is just for children and can't persuade them otherwise. At least people around me are that way.

After many failings I don't want to scare people with over the top anime so now I usually start with Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun and got good feedbacks. Though it's not something that makes people anime lover, it's just to warm them up. Gin no Saji is also pretty "normal" and fun to watch. Barakamon. is another "normal" and gripping anime though its a bit long.

For someone that might like romance I usually suggest Lovely Complex and Toradora.

Talking about romance there's Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso of course but I warned them about feels and lots of content of classical music.

I want people to watch Rurouni Kenshin cuz it's my favourite anime but 90+ episode kinda make people shy away. I make one of my friend watch it's OVA and explain something if he didn't understand and he was hooked he finished rest of it in 2 or 3 days.

Nanatsu no Taizai is really gripping at start but then then kinda fizzles out. Still if you recommend to someone that likes that genres then it will be a success from my experience.

I tried Ansatsu Kyoushitsu and One-Punch Man but it's too supernatural for starting anime again from my experience.

Steins;Gate is another failure for me unfortunately. Even though I warned them before, they said first episodes are really boring and couldn't wait to see the awesome episodes that make it one of the best anime.

It's human nature to share what you like with your friends and talk about it. It's more fun that way.

That's quite the accomplishment there even I who watched anime for more than 15 years find it hard to watch. :)

This is exactly what happened with me. SAO was my first anime and when I finished it, I thought it was at least a 9/10 (except for the 2nd arc, that shit sucked no matter if you where a bigger or veteran).

A few years later and I'd give it a 3/10.

I've tried but it's difficult to get past most people's idea of animation. You know, the whole "cartoons are for kids" mindset.

I feel bad for people who who will never try anime though. I mean, they'll never get to experience these great stories and characters. I'd be pretty bummed if I died having never watched Hunter x Hunter, Code Geass, and Death Note. Oh well, if someone isn't open enough to give something new a try then so be it.

Yeah, but like a long time ago. I think 6 years or smthng. There was this girls that often made photoshop edits with random stock png images she found on the internet. She had some random-ass obsession with angels and at one point she used Kanade Tachibana from Angel Beats! in her edit. At the time, Angel Beats! just finished airing recently and I was still full on the AB! hype train, as I just finished it a few months ago. So when I saw her using that image I contacted her to do some random-ass fantalk about Angel Beats!
Then I found out she didn't knew the show and I convinced her to watch it.

Yes.
In fact i did affect some people with the anime influence just by talking about their preferences.

Its quite simple, as long you share the passion and doesnt cross the line. other will be influenced and they'll start taking the genre they look into after you recommend the the first few anime.

Finding one with manga though..
its not common these days.

Nah, I've got no intent in doing so, honestly. If they take interest in it then great, but I'm not really ever going to try to make somebody interested in it myself and would rather just leave that up for them to decide on their own.

It would feel wrong to try and convert somebody into sharing interests with me at this point.

I talked my friend into Death note too. After that, he watched Parasyte and Tokyo Ghoul. Really nothing special, but I managed to talk my cousin into anime. He didn't watch anime a lot, he only watched some Naruto and Dragon Ball episodes. Once he saw my Issei (from DxD) picture on youtube (yep I have his picture as profile picture). He saw his sacred gear and was interested in which anime is he from. Week after that, he told me he watched all 3 seasons and that he started watching Trinity Seven. That was 4 months ago though. Now he already watched over 20 harem anime. He really seems to like the ecchi stuff. I mean, who doesn't love some panty shots.

That's how I'm beginning to feel about Clannad, but it still has that special place in my heart; I like to say it was the first anime I ever watched because it got me into anime. I had only watched Tokyo Ghoul and Another beforehand, and now that I think back, those were kind of bad ones to start with...

I've convinced many people into watching one specific anime, but they don't tend to stick around to watch too much more. Perhaps it's because I don't constantly recommend people things and pester them to watch anime, rather I just leave them to explore on their own. If they continue with anime, so be it. If not, then it's fine with me too. Usually they'd most they'd watch a few popular ones and move on.

I've certainly talked people who already watch anime to watch many series though, recommending is fun.
If your favourite character is Tsutsukakushi Tsukiko, you are my soul mate.

Been a long time since I've been here, I'll continue expressing myself freely and believe everyone should too.

sounds radicals, but in my place there are only 3 type of person
-1 peoples who likes drama (mostly teenage girls and 40+ YO women or guys who secretly love drama and i had acquaintances of this type in highschool )
-2 peoples who likes or into the cartoon or anime (most of my friends in collages, and you can't telling them if they're a nerd just by first glance... and to tell the truth most of anime fan either hardcore, wibu, or just casual i've met in real life or internet most of them from 90's and 80's generations)
most of them including me were disappointed or in rage because anime basically disappear from our national-tv-broadcasts
-3 peoples who doesn't like both of them, or peoples who likes with both of them (probably there are four)
so isn't hard to find them here..
BTT usually i gave, anime recommendations for my friends, sometimes i got recommended so i only talking about anime with my friends

Not really talked someone to but...
I successfully made some persons watch a certain serie.
And i believe that I (at least partially) passively addicted couple of persons.

Once i managed to show 2 of my friends High School of the Dead. We watched a few episodes together. They got attracted it. One of them finished it at home and even started to watch Attack on Titan at later time (according to my suggestions ofc).
