Ya its the writer's fault... He got 7 fucking years of experience in hiding him self from the police/other detectives. The same Light Yagami who at the time when he went to high school was already doing stuff like putting a broken piece of charcoal into a lock to identify if someone was in or not. The same guy who bested L. Add to it another 6 fucking years of experience and training. This is just stupid, the way Near bested him and his stupid care free mistakes are just excuses to end his legend thats all...

Gawd dammit Senpai!
Well I'll say it anyways.

Justin Bieber hair, he was a dick, he manipulated his evil dumbass girlfriend and everyone else, the police force was full of incompetent pieces of shit, he wasn't L, he trusted some dude he found on TV to have the death note which is a total Justin Bieber move, he ate chips like a douche, he wasn't L, he thought he was smarter than everyone else when in reality everyone else was just dumb as shit.

The question is what was the mistakes he did, as in what lead to his

not what you personally don't like about him..

Lol I know that.
However, there were certain things I said that were the reason for his demise that were clearly not just from my bias perspective.
*being serious* when he trusted someone he barely knew with the death note, not just once but twice. Also, he found himself to have no flaws and this gave him the idea that he was flawless, or untouchable, leading for him to be vulnerable.
Also, he underestimated anyone who wasn't L. He felt that since near and Mello were not L that they did not possess the ability to outsmart him.

So there...

Although, we all gotta admit that the hair didn't help him out.

He didn't make any mistake. It was bad luck for Kira. He couldn't predict his follower will act on his own against the god will (or at least on his own will).

Badly drawn L is oh so Kawaii in its own way.

I agree with this as well.
He didn't care to understand the opposing side (though he did in the beginning of the show) because he felt he knew all the answers. You could tell he was having a slow breakdown in those last few episodes because he started making decisions that were completely irrational.

I think his biggest mistake was killing that officer that was tailing him in the beginning. He could have gotten away without killing him, but after convincing him he wasn't Kira he just had to kill him off at the train station, along with many other agents.

Joking aside, I think deleting police documents (or what was he doing, idk) was a big mistake. He just revealed his connection with the police.

Mistake#1 (and it's at the top of the list for a reason): he thought that he could create a perfect world, a paradise free of violence (crime and war), with murder and fear. What he was actually building was...

Mistake#2: a pantheon of pain, with a foundation being a mountain of skulls drenched in the ocean of blood that were Kira's victims, that emanated nothing but fear and intimidation upon his new world. To paraphrase Abraham Lincoln:

You can intimidate all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot intimidate all the people all the time.

Light/Kira's godhead was doomed from the moment of conception.

Light also allowed himself to be seduced into a "God Complex," and his already tenuous, flawed connection to humanity was thus severed. He saw himself as a god, and therefore not human/mortal.

Mistake#3: Light Yagami was every bit as smart/clever as he thought he was; he just didn't give anyone else credit for possibly being just as (if not more) smart/clever (I'm lookin' at you, Nate River!).
I am the one you warned me of.

Killing Lind L. Taylor. That pretty much kicked off the entire plot.

In my opinion, it was killing Lind L. Tailor. It was because what kind of 'the best and world -renowned' detective would go around revealing his face and real name so nonchalantly? If Light asked that mental question to himself even in a fraction of a second, the series would become different. Probably even make him attain his goal.

Killing Lind L was basically his only major mistake. He played the game out almost flawlessly after that slip up. He ultimately just lost because

1. Near had a foundation of L's work to stand on for a starter, he probably would have never won without it.
2. Mikumi fucked up big time, if Mikumi hadn't, then Light would have won.

Picking the DN up to begin with. That Ryuk is one sadistic bastard!

But if there's anything that really showed just how ugly and unfitting he was, it was killing the FBI agents (especially Misora) and even getting a fucking SHINIGAMI and his father killed for his own sake.

Well it's for shouting out "Well Near, it looks like I've won." At the end. Also the guy who was working for Light should have written everyone's names down in the real note book, and then written everyone's name in the fake notebook including Light, but not someone else like Matsuda, so everyone will think it's him, but they all die soon after.

It has been mentioned already and I'll agree with the killing of Lind L Taylor. Light made other major mistakes like at the final episode but this is his biggest one that he could have easily prevented. Light had to be Mr. Sensitive and take down someone who was publicly criticizing him at the time of the live broadcast. It's an obvious bait.

Without that, L wouldn't have been certain at all that Kira resides in Japan and he would have either arrived a lot later or not at all and no one else had the smarts to take down Kira.

While I think Light did make mistakes throughout the series as mentioned in previous posts, I don't believe his downfall was a result of one of his own mistakes. Mikami made a mistake by doing more than what Light had instructed, which led to both of their deaths. I suppose you could say that Light should not have entrusted so much to Mikami, but he really didn't have too many other options, especially considering he never did the Eye Deal with Ryuk.

I think it's interesting to think about how the plot might have differed if Light initially, or at any point in the series, was granted Shinigami eyes.

Um actually, I thought his biggest mistake is killing Raye Penber.
But if you think about it, Light's death is Ryuk's fault. Everything happened because Ryuk was BORED. But if you think about it more, it's all Tsugumi Ohba's fault. He wrote this damn sad story, and if you tell me, I would say it is (yes I'm saying it)stupid. Light's death is stupid, and I seriously hate it. Light is perfect, but his death resulted in Misa's heart being broken, and that is so sad.
This is just a sad tragedy, like Romeo and Juliet.
