| Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica - I knew it is not the typical girly show, so it landen on may plan to watch. And then X-mas happened. X-mas with the most irritating relative ever, who actually stayed the night .... Back then I knew that I need something anything that would catch my interest. I looked up my plan to watch and there it was. I started it, noticed the nightmarish start , which then Madokat woke up from and then girly staff. Well well okeeey, it is still better then my X-mas. And then it started to unfold. My brain felt the seriousness of the actions on the screen. My emotions were at a higher level than ever before. - Yeah, the marathon happened, and something made me celebrate that X-mas. Runner-ups: Zankyou no Terror - watching it while studying to become a Software Engineer... Yeah gr8 staff. Also for someone who has seen the undenyable horrors higher ups can do to dozens of people; a nice reminder of where we live. Ergo Proxy - Me and my friend both studied a bit of philosophy, and we were thrilled by it. We watched it togeother, and discussed some scenes for quite a while. Definitelly the most awesome anime experience we ad togeother. |

| Death Parade. Besides the beautiful animation and intense points of drama, it gave me a new and fresh perspective on humanity and life itself. The family's gone through some grieving in the last year and a bit, so when I watched Death Parade for the first time, I was overcome by a much more real sense of futility within life, whether or not a person can truly redeem themselves, and what they will be prepared to do in such a dark and dramatic place. Mainly that life and moments shared with family is the most valuable thing that exists. Season finale made me tear up with how heavy it got, thinking back to my experiences. | Stop what you are doing and repeat after me: Ghost. In. The. Shell (Stand Alone Complex) If you like serious anime then you've come to the right place. This series will give you serious along with a side order of philosophy, a bag of politics, and a large cup of investigative police drama. Even if you are not into the cyberpunk genre the story is a volume's worth of reflection about human nature and often alludes to real world history. What drew me to this anime besides its beautiful animation (by 2000s standards), music, and voice acting was that the writers treat the viewer like an adult for once. Things aren't explained away but must be understood by educated viewers who seek more from a show then powerful characters, big explosions, and fanservice (although GITS has all three). Multiple re-wartches may be required to fully understand certain instances in the plot but you'll get the gist of it the first time through. Besides that, GITS is one of the few anime where the dub is great and imo better than the sub (fight me sub purists). The series also contains one of Yoko Kanno's best soundtracks. Im not going to say anymore, if you haven't seen it then do yourself a favor and put this at the top of your watch list, its worth it. |

| For me, it would be Clannad. I first watched the series in the middle of my senior year of high school During this time, my parents were continually getting on my nerves about stupid things, being extra paranoid because college was so soon. I was told that I wouldn't amount to anything because my grades weren't good and because my hobbies took up too much time. During this time I was also suffering from severe anxiety, which I believed to be a result of this constant reminder that I wasn't doing well and wouldn't get into college or make anything of myself. This was also the time I was first getting into anime, and fresh off the heels of Shigatsu (another anime that falls in this category but you've completed), I looked for something similar and found this. Upon completion, I came to realize the true feelings of my parents. I understood that they cared and wanted the best for me, even if they weren't going about it the right way. After this show, I started to try to build a better relationship with my family, and for that it holds a place deep in my heart. Also, I noticed you are currently watching K-ON, my favorite anime of all time, which also holds a special place in my heart because of just how much I related to and resonated with the characters, their struggles, their development, and the themes they represent. Similarly to Clannad, it made me realize that I may have been taking my friends for granted and made me remember how special they were to me and how much they meant to me and how much I would miss them if they were gone. I just thought I should bring that up, since you are in for a real treat, especially since you haven't seen the masterpiece which is season 2. |

The only non-serious things about it are the Shinji memes. It's not for everyone, though. • Recently I watched Revolutionary Girl Utena. All those things I complain about Clannad and other bad anime drama--the bad 2d characters, characters that act in a way people would never act, the meaningless melodrama--aren't here. The characters are fleshed out, the act like how people thrown into a shitty situation would act, and the drama has meaning. It's actually a good anime, and I don't say that lightly. |

| An anime that's always had a special place in my heart is "Black Cat". It starts off pretty serious but then branches off into a slight comedy (if I remember correctly...I haven't seen it about 3-4 years) with serious moments that occasionally pop back in. I think the reason it resonated with me so much is because it was the first anime where I witnessed something really sad ;u;. Of course I can't tell you what happens bc you know...spoilers. I've noticed it's not for everyone but I think I can confidently say it one of my favorite animes xD. I'm actually thinking of reading the manga soon~. |

Unrequited love happens, jealousy spawns. The adult life and responsibility takes over .Soon, we all grow far apart from eachother and the days that we shared turn into nothing but memories from the past. And this anime beautifully portrayed that theme. It's an anime which everyone can somehow relate to and picture themselves in it, just like I did.I can relate to everything of it,which never happened for me for any books or tv series or movies. |

| For me, it will be Kemono no Souja Erin. At a time my opinion about anime/manga was very low, this show made me reconciliate with those medias. Animes/mangas don't need to be always "epic" (god I hate this word) with screaming idiots as protagonists or a Fate/Stay-ish. I just wanted to watch it because it had a unique story; Tokyo experiences a massive earthquake that devastates the region. I wanted to see how the characters in the show would react to that. Boy, this shit got me wrapped up, in, and around the journey of the 3 protagonists on their way back home. It had me on the edge of my seat for almost every episode because in a crisis like that, there were so many things that could go wrong. It's a real thrill. | Well, you would think most serious anime would hold special places. you know? But Evangelion I guess. Since I just own every release, I identify with it so heavily I find I get insulted when people insult Shinji. I feel pretty Otaku when I watch it. I quote things... I have an entire folder on my computer with just Shinji's depressing quotes. I have another folder with uplifting quotes. I have another folder with like... hurtful things said to Shinji and other people in the series... When someone can whip out their sub version and then their dub version VHS complete Evengelion... ummmm and then they got the Perfect, Platininum, and they got the singles releases... and the stupid tin release... when you even got the Shinji detective series manga that is soooo stupid, yeah they should come to my place and chill. We would get along. We got issues. The depression body language in Evangelion is just immaculate. but if you aren't into that, I really can't sell it to you. It is why people hate it. If you hate how depressed people look behave and feel, you will hate Shinji. At least our series is worth a lot of money now. :/ But I do wish they would release the damn bluray here. But I know why they wont. Because everyone is fighting over it. Also wishing for other mecha series to get out of copyright hell. :( hate this. But I do feel the pain of Eva. But at the same time, I feel like I am in a much better place now. So much so that I am identifying my life more with Yuri on Ice. Which should say that my life is so much better than going to complete shit that is for sure. PS. Shocked by people who like Madoka- Felt like a shallow series to me that killed the magical girl genre. Feel like Princess Tutu is better in every single way and is closer to Evangelion in how it expresses the lonliness and depth of it's characters. It had a special way of mixing fairytale charm, music, dancing- all girly things that make the magical girl genre but not cheapening the darkness of it's characters with something stupid like death. Which anime, as you know, doesn't do very well. And it only works the first time you watch it. You could watch Princess Tutu and the core values of empathy and worrying if she is doing the right thing many times over and not get turned off. |
