That aside, watch Gankutsuou then retire from anime. Assuming you haven't already.

This is a great one.
Some parts of Hunter x Hunter are sensational- especially the Meruem/Komugi parts
Clannad AfterStory (My personal Favorite)
FMAB is super solid - unreal how balanced it is
And of course Samurai X TnB, what a great solemn OVA it is

it has been a long time bro, where have been?
Back to the topic I don't think HXH is a good candidate(haven't seem 2011 version but watched the older version ) from what I have seen it is just a good battle shounen but much more violent than your average shounen series nothing special about it I don't understand all the hype.
FMAB was excellent but it suffered from weak beginning, childish humour a generic evil villain and the conclusion was way too happy for a dark series like it.

I've been everywhere haha... traveling the country for an Internship during the summer and now super busy with school. Hardly have time to watch any anime, let alone get on here.

and back to topic - the stuff I mentioned about HxH is only in the 2011 version, towards the end of the series.

Its subjective, but to me the best anime or anything ever really will Be something you grew with. That teaches you lessons throughout life, something you have a lot of memories with. Something you can look back to with a lot of nostalgia. To me that is Naruto, though so many salty suckers here on MAL want to prove themselves they're better than other for having an "amazing" taste, but in the end it's just the kind of emotion you feel when watching an anime.

I've never seen anything like Angel's Egg. Free on youtube.
I've never seen something like an adult anime arguing in adult ways (Akira sorta falls into its own mysticism). Ghost in the Shell movies are intellectually deep things I have little idea about but because of the way they are made, in the sense of how hard they stick to philosophy and social stuff and plot while ditching everything else like characters, they are more like discussions with the audience and it's like hearing a professor talking of boring shit nobody cares about. The SAC tv series is cool though.
As far as recent ones go sweetness&lightning is more mature than say Kimi no NA wa.
But yeah op ofc there's room for better stuff and a lot of work to do to compete with cinema in the wide world.

Anime is a wasted medium. There's only a few genuinely great anime. There's some good anime, but those are only really good for an anime. By the standards of literature or western tv or even viewmasters they pale in comparison.

Honestly I don't want to think that way. Sure, I've seen only a bunch of anime and yet to watch so many more, but I can only hope for the next anime to watch to be better than those I've previously enjoyed. My quest here is not to arrive at an anime I would glorify as the best among them all, but to experience constant improvement in the community and industry.
A retard is trying to prove his point, thanks.

Everyone's "best anime ever" is different. Like, I think the best anime ever is Watamote but I know a damn lot of people won't agree to that.

But, according to MAL Kimi no Na wa is now the "best anime ever" based on the rating.

rating means nothing, it was just a bunch of number base opinion of viewers.
I watched a lot of low rating anime here on MAL but it turns out to be good.
so I lost hope about the rating system here.

I don't even know what I consider the best anime ever I think Otaku harp on that too much there are so many good shows and manga out there each with pros and cons I think we all know that much.

I guess once you have seen something amazing you worry that maybe that's it, and maybe that is it for you or you need to push yourself to watch new genres out of your comfort zone to appreciate something new.

I know pushing myself to try something new has helped me appreciate anime in general a lot more than I used to

I used to hate mecha although to be honest I never really gave it a chance but then I saw something that blew my mind and it opened up a path to some of the best anime I've ever seen.

Again when I tried Chihayafuru I was blown away, I would have never thought that one of my favorite anime would be from a slice of life josei manga.

So keep trying new things everyone is working hard to make the best anime they can, you never know what might capture your heart next that's why I love this industry so much.

I think it's pretty clear it's a good movie, just not something to lose your shit about. Everything is told to you in a way you don't have to feel and think for yourself, while the characters are not particularly flawed nor overcoming interesting stuff but still get super genki etc like any anime char. It's only near the end of the movie that they are put against a couple of seemingly impossible things for the power of love to win overcome, so yeah, it's okay. Cicadas on cicadas off says mr myiagi.

Don't you mean your best anime?
It's just a matter of searching among the existing anime and hoping you'll come across it sooner or later
"I like young-girl sexual creations, Lolicon is just one hobby of my many hobbies," he says.
I ask what his wife, standing nearby, thinks of his "hobby".
"She probably thinks no problem," he replies. "Because she loves young boys sexually interacting with each other."

Mankind is still very young. We (hopefully) have a bright future ahead of us, with many years to come. In the future, I hope and pray that something better than all anime that have been made to date will be produced. I personally don't think I've seen the best possible anime yet. I mean, there is a lot of amazing stuff out there, but I still think there's potential for still better. I don't believe mangakas, novelists, and studios have exhausted all originality and that they're beating a dead horse. I believe that there is something (or somethings) yet that has the potential to seize #1 on my list of favourites by storm. Something bewitching, enchanting.

Do you entertain this idea/hope as well? Do you think it's a possibility or am I just too optimistic?
