| Any thoughts on Last Sun designs? It's a nice return to the RWB, but it's hard to imagine these designs running concurrent with Unicorn. Then again, it's not the first time designs clashed. The Guncannon and Doms look great. |

From the lineup and classic colour schemes, I guess they're deliberately harking back to the White Base's lineup. |
| Now I can't unsee skeleDom. Yeah the Aonbarr is really awkward. That NZ Doven Wolf color scheme is atrocious. The Guntank is the worst. Overall, it's definitely a throwback. The Gundam is very ZZ-like, even in height. |

| Retro with a modern touch, hmmm. The Cannongan looks fantastic, with the rest decent-good. Placing the events in 0096 and with those designs is certainly weird. This manga will probably never be translated like the majority of Gundam manga and novels, what a shame. |

| Watching Miller's Report reminded me of how good 8th MS Team was. Also my gundam simulwatch partner has finally caught up so I'm in for a Unicorn rewatch next week. Hopefully it'll get me back into gundam mood fulltime so I can get started with some of the AUs. |

Deal? :> Don't get me wrong though, me saying that Puru sucks doesn't change the fact that I still believe Reccoa (along with some of her fellow Zeta females) to be hands down one of the worst characters to have ever graced Japanese animation, and at this point it's really become more of an old joke than a statement I really feel strongly about but I won't apologize for not thinking that Cybernewtypes are exempt from any sort of criticism by virtue of being Cybernewtypes. It's true that for the most past they can't be held accountable for the things they're forced to do under mind control, but that doesn't mean I have a moral obligation to put up with nor be understanding of a selfish brat's shenanigans just because she's had a hard life. Her sacrifice was admirable and I still can't figure out why Tomino would make all the characters conviniently forget about her death when fucking Rasara of all people gets episodes of tears and mourning, but you'll excuse me if trying to act as a replacement for Judau's captive sister, trying to lead her away from him when she knows she's injured, and daring to say the words she said to Judau's face while the barn where he last saw Leina was still burning in front of his eyes isn't exactly what I'd call cute. As far as I'm concerned neither Four, Rosamia or even Lalah were anywhere that selfish and self-centered. I can see what the appeal of her character, I think: cute loli who's for the most part a victim of her circumstances and just wanted someone to give her the love and care she never had etc. etc. It's just that it really didn't do it for me and she made it harder for me to enjoy a show I was already having more than enough trouble appreciating before her appearance. I have to hand it to her, though: her introduction was followed by an excellent arc and possibly the best Earth-focused episodes I've seen from the franchise yet. tl;dr Puru sucks srsly tho, i don't really hate her that much: i just, you know, dislike her a lot PS: why am I writing so much about this? |

| I don't blame you for hating her when she was first introduced. Lots of the things you mentioned made me furious at first too but she really grew on me once she got more fleshed out and by the time you-know-what happened I had gotten really attached to her. She was one of the things that made ZZ less of a chore than I expected it to be for me. And while I still like Four x Kamille much more I found it refreshing that Puru was much more outgoing and selfish than Four, otherwise it would have just been literally the same story from Zeta repeated most likely. In the end I feel mostly pity for these cyber newtypes and Puru is one of those that never had a bad intention so I can't really hold her unreflected selfishness that much against her. 90% of those cyber newtypes lives they don't even have control over so I always found it understandable that she'd try to compensate for that by desperately trying to 'own' everything that made her feel good. Like the small kid she mentally and socially is. And in terms of not realizing what it did to Judau, where is she supposed to learn empathy and people skills like that from? Nobody from the program which was most of her life ever considered her feelings, she probably didn't even knew that was a thing. Which made her you-know-what at the end so impactful for me. I mean maybe I am too forgiving based on her circumstances but how my perception of her turned from raging to understanding to being fond of is a big part of why I remember her in such a good light and it wouldn't have been possible without that initial rage. Idk, it just worked for me, unlike lots of other things Tomino made his characters do. Might be biased because I have a weakness for 'damaged' characters in general, but well. One last thing about cybernewtypes being except from any sort of criticism. The way they were usually portrayed in the franchise is that they're under mind control or brainwashing pretty much all the time, and even if they're not you can hardly call them being of a sound and sane mind so all things considered I do remember not many scenes where I would actually hold something against them as a person - because they never really had a chance to become a real, functional person from the very start. I don't even think they would be legally accountable for their actions given how much people screwed with their minds. Just my impression tho. Now criticising how Tomino decided to write them is a different thing. I'm all over trashing how Tomino writes a lot of his characters :>. But there's a difference between judging as a person and as a character and I don't think Puru was a bad person that deserves to be hated, all things considered. And certainly not the main thing to be pissed about in ZZ which is why I was surprised to see you bring her up that persistently, as if she symbolizes everything that's wrong with ZZ. Because even setting aside that for me she was legitimately one of the best things about that show (which is probably why I hate it less than most people), I don't think she's particularly representative of the problems the show has. If you have to direct your frustration about that show somewhere you should rant about Tomino, not Puru :P. P.S. Good question |
