The second season doesn"t necessarily have to be made by Gonzo - look at Strike Witches, the sequel was done by AIC. And the second half was done by Picture Magic anyway.

The manga is released bi-weekly with regular (=planned) intermissions. It was released for 3 years before the anime started, and the anime got ahead of the manga as we know.

Well, it's quite obvious that you're out of the loop sidekick.

Gonzo has announced quite recently that they'll have Range Murata working with them in one of their future productions. They are not dead.

Given that the manga is a monthly release, there'd probably need to be at least another 1.5-2 years before there's enough content to complete the Nationals.

Range Murata ?! What a joke(the guy), come see me when it's out. They used to release up to 2 animes per season and now nothing. If they are not dead then they are hibernating?
The Nationals going to take 4 years like that, public interest on the anime will already be lost.
BTW the manga Saki is issued twice a month as the magazine Young Gangan is published twice a month. lol(diabolical).

I enjoyed lesbian maaaah-jong for most of the part except, Momoko who fucking disappears. I mean, I realize the ridiculousness of this anime but that is going way over the line. There are some really cool moments here and there. Made me also wanted to play and learn maaah-jong. Needs a lot more of Hisa x Mihoko scenes though.

Anyway, I'm glad second season is announced for this and this is certainly more enjoyable to watch when it's finished airing so I wouldn't have to painfully wait for the battle conclusions. I'm planning to do the same for the second season as well. 8/10

i love to watch these sitting sports anime. Its different and entertaining to watch!

- Never explains the rules of Mahjong.
+ Butts and apparently all girls are shaved in the DVD.
- Ears have no lines and their nipples are gone! Bring the fogs in!
+ Yuri. Lots of yuri.
?? Super Shoujo SSJ4.
- Overkills on the blushes.
+ Fresh story, if you need a break from those action and romance anime, this one is for you!
+ 2 ED themes on each "season." One serious and one cute theme. Its a great technique that should be used more often by producers so they won't have any problems with sad endings with cute ED themes and vise versa.
- The main team hogged all the spots for the nationals. Except for minorin, i meant mihoko.
- They didn't experience a devastating lost like chihaya, shohuku, or ippo had that made those series' stories more emotional.

The heart of the tiles! out of 10.

First off, sorry if this is a really late quote but...I wouldn't really say she "disappears", she erases her presence. And surprisingly, I can sort of believe that. I am a person with not much of a presence like Momo, not many people notice me until I do something noticeable. So...yeah. Just wanted to say...everything she does is more like, concealed so that people don't notice her.

Hmm...where did you watch the series? Perhaps the fansubbers that you watched from didn't explain it, but I watched on crunchyroll and most of the terms were explained. I also agree with you that during the individuals, somebody else should have won. I would've wanted it to be: Mihoko, Nampo Kazue, Hisa. But mehhh..I also that the blushing was a bit too much :/

And so it ends. Well, I have to admit I was skeptical at first when I picked up the show, but I really enjoyed it. Not to mention mahjong itself picked my curiosity now. Can't wait to see more of this someday.

Ah of course, wrap up the series with an All-Star fan-service episode. It was so cute seeing Saki and Nodoka getting all embarrassed over calling each other by first name.

Overall this turned out to be a fun and different experience. I wasn't really able to keep up with the games that much, even after looking up some mahjong guides, but it was rewarding when I followed what little of it I could. Turning such an unorthodox and under the radar activity into an enjoyable anime series was reminiscent to Chihayafuru. Despite being so unfamiliar with mahjong, however, there was some charm that kept me powering through each episode, excited to see how the matches turned out.

Cute yuri girls playing super powered mahjong has shown me yet another side of anime that's unexpectedly fun. 7/10, can't wait to power through the sequel once it's finished airing.

Not the best ending for this kind of show as this was mostly service which would've been a good ova and then the show would be better finished at ep24 or even 23 but well this is a bit disappointing actually for an ending. It's good that there is a second season and a side story so let's see what those have to offer.

As for the series in general, it had some really great moments and some less good moments but all in all it was a good anime! 7/10

A Four-school Joint Training camp in preparation for the upcoming nationals and future ones .
Kyoutaro imaginations again .. man .. you're just head-over-heels to them ehh ~ !!
I do like the boy's online gaming .. It's good to see them too and not just girls all over ~ .
Everyone is passing out ... my goodness ..but can't be helped .. the heat got on their brains .
They're teaming up against Ms. Beginner's luck .. sure hope It doesn't lead to bad luck ~ !!
Ahh .. ping-pongs .. I want to try it too !!
I already said this but I'll say it again (in my mind) .. That luck of hers is worth a fortune !!
Woahh .. Touka is a ping-pong master !! .. she crushed them easily .
That dim background is not necessary !! .. well , in my case , for me it's not ~ .
Onsen .. the secret Paradise of eves ~ .. forbidden for the bodies of man to enter .
Miyanaga Teru !! The True Monster of the National Tournament !!
To say that she has no sister is too harsh much to the shock of saki .. but I don't know what event has turn out to her and her family to say such words so, I'll be just quiet and see it for myself .
Exchange gifts and first names ~ !! How nice can be a yuri of love ~ !!
It begins !! The battle of the Pros at one place and at a time ~ !!
Very great episode !!! "Miracles aims for the top ."

What a marvelous season for this anime .. It really is amazing and this amazement is still not over yet as the next season marches over the national tournament !! "Forever ."

I was wondering when Nodoka and Saki would start calling each other by their given names. It's about time they did so.

I wonder if this picture here of Saki using her sister's the mirror ability will actually become true in the finals if it does that would be awesome.

That would be interesting to see if it actually happens. I think this is just a picture someone made, but if it became true that would show everyone that she is related to Teru i think.

I got less of a filler than I expected and less mahjong than I expected in the same time. I guess I'm not mad after all though. This episode was a good build-up for the real thing that is to come.

This is one of the very best 6/10s I've watched.

I dropped this before but watched it against because of Akagi and meh,
Saki is one the most plain, bland and boring main character ever.
saki-nodoka is like koyori-agari from moe ping pong except it's way worse.
all the games are way too short, anticlimatic and mostly asspull luck battle especially against final boss koromo.

but hey at least there is boobs+yuri. and the butler hagiyoshi is the best character.

Really loved the show. Even with my zero knowledge about mahjong, i thoroughly enjoyed the show.
The character development here was impressive, developing such a huge cast of characters, connecting them together with the story and exploring their perspective was quite remarkable. Also those Miyanaga-san x Haramura-san moments were absolutely blissful. Nationals will surely have some strong players so my expectation from next season is high.

Really good show, and another one of those ones that really needs a shoujo ai tag *looks sadly at MAL* Lots of great animation moments, a really amazing tournament arc that I couldn't stop watching, and mind-numbingly sweet yuri. Pretty much my kind of show.

The only criticism I'd have of this actually is that the last arc felt like an extended conclusion. After that tournament arc there really only needed to be like one more episode as far as I'm concerned, then get into the nationals for the last arc or else stop it there and wait for season 2. Apart from that, I was super impressed with the whole presentation from the art to the music to the characters.

Yet another 2009 classic, would've been an amazing year had I started watching anime then.

Nice onsen fanservice. :3

It was a pretty good first season, although the matches were a little boring because I don't even understand the rules and even if I did, I still wouldn't have find them so interesting.

All those nice SoL moments and moe were the main reasons why I wanted to watch this. Also, all that yuri was cute, but then it was also like "we are lesbians, but then we are NOT lesbians." They just kept blushing and blushing and that's it. I really don't know what they tried to achieve with that, but oh well. It was still cute and fun.

The spin-off definitely seems kind of like it's own thing, so I guess I'll elaborate here instead of waiting to see Nationals.

I absolutely adored this anime. The main cast has so much chemistry, really every team does. Lots of sports anime like Prince of Tennis and Kuroko's Basketball really make the team dynamics come alive as well, but they often rely heavily on drama. While each character has their own struggles, the teams in Saki are much more grounded, sweet, and wholesome [and horny ;)]. Of course I'm going to appreciate yuri a lot more than yaoi shipping, but all of the relationships are handled quite well. They feel very innocent and organic. I rooted for every pairing.

I had absolutely no experience with mahjong, and even after looking up the rules to help watch this, I still don't understand it at all. It seems very complicated and convoluted in regards to newcomers, so I doubt I'd really start to get it without playing for a few hours with knowledgeable people. Even so I thoroughly enjoyed watching the girls play. I gave up on even trying to understand the scoring halfway through, but it was still fun to see them unleash their signature moves for big points. Fanservice aside, this reminded me heavily of Hikaru no Go without the learning how to play arc. Each person's specialty is more about a winning move or a strategic skill as opposed to a shounen superpower. The closest thing are people who manipulate tile draws like Yugioh.

Again the cast is amazing. Yuuki my crazy lovable Taco loli. Ditch Kyoutarou and come to me sweetheart. I'll appreciate your feminine charms. Always cute; always hilarious. Saki and Nodoka are such a wonderful couple. Watching their love slowly bloom is heartwarming. Mako and Hisa make a great duo as well. A consummate leader and her sidekick. It's entertaining to watch Touko the ojou-sama have her pride crushed again and again. And dear lord, Koromo is adorable. The Kazekoshi girls were really fun to watch (we even got a cute chubby girl who had no screentime), and it's really a shame Kana's siblings were only in the specials. You've gotta love Stealth Momo and her squeeze too (although I don't know why Momo's episode repeated scenes 3 or 4 times).

I drowned in sexy waifus and steamy fanservice, watching cute girls and barely-clothed lolis hold hands and pledge to be together forever, laughing as I went along. By the end, I didn't want any of the major girls to lose, so they could come back into the story again later.

This show definitely warmed my cold, dead heart a little bit. And the routine close-ups of sweaty thighs definitely warmed something else. :p Seriously top-tier fanservice on display (without going full 'Chivalry of a Failed Knight').

The soundtrack, the character designs, pacing, the character development, all executed so well. Poor Kyoutarou will never get his girl, and he doesn't appreciate Yuuki's advances. Yuuki should get with the other girls in their love octahedrons instead.

10/10. Pure cinema.
