Hi guys, extremely few people that i know of watch animes where i stay (they find it weird for adults to watch cartoons). However, some of my friends were curious why i show so much interest to animes. i ALWAYS use 'shingeki no kyojin' as a sure fire way to get them interested in anime Lol. What about you guys?

I always throw in Code Geass for some reason, usually people are impressed.

But it really depends, sometimes I'll give them Toradora or Major depending on what they might like.

My friends IRL don't care about chinese cartoons, I've try before to convince them to watch something, but there's no point since they're never going to watch it.

So I just gave up.

Meh, if they never watched one I recommend starting with the overated ones like bleach, naruto, one piece, SAO, etc. If they liked those, then they will surely continue. If you give them a masterpiece they will always search and expect anime to be masterpieces. Also, it depends on what they want to watch.

Depends on what they like in regular entertainment. I'll use something similar to what they already like.

Adenture Time = Senyuu
Blade Runner = Ergo Proxy
British-style comedy = Nichijou
American-style comedy = Danshi Koukosei no Nichijou
Sherlock = Hyouka
Teen dramas = Hanasaku Iroha
Supernatural stuff = Kokoro Connect

The only times I'm stuck is with Sci-Fi, horror and action because Japan sucks at it.

Huh. My friend hated ALL anime because her other friend kept trying to make her watch Naruto and sht like that. So, me, being the person who has seen a sht ton of anime, decided to start Hellsing Ultimate with her. She loved it. And she was like 'Wow you found an anime I like!' She's one for GORE, and depth to plot, or pretty evil characters. Usually a lot of death. Pretty sure she's messed in the head irl (Idk she never sleeps, she plays AC, and Skyrim/Oblivion as the dark brotherhood a ton, and a lot of other dark RPG console games with death) But, what I'm saying is it depends soley on their personality. So, just find out what they like in general. Like ask them 'What games do you play?"
'What books do you read?"
'What movies do you like?"

Anyways, if they're one to not like cartoons/animated movies at all whatsoever then don't try to show them anything. If they like IRL sports, show them sports anime of those sports that were rated highly. You don't have to like the anime, its just a way to get them into the niche.

Yeah and the only good mecha I've seen is Suisei no Gargantia, and its focus isn't really on typical Sci-fi things. And I still almost dropped it because of the insipid battle in the opening minutes of the first episode.¨

Edit: Though the newest Gundam seemed OK at first, if not the fugly colourful big toy mechs showed up

Honestly you should show them mind-fuk animes like FLCL, and Paranoia Agent. IF they liked the way Pulp Fiction was. Idk if they've seen pulp fiction (my favorite in his movie series) or not.

Aww darn. Haven't really done so.

The first one I was introduced to was Deathnote, the manga. Then I watched the Anime...

I imagine that most people when starting anime would watch Naruto, Deathnote, Bleach etc. If they are into a certain genre like gore. Then give em ElfenLied, Hellsing, or something. It is hard to lure someone into the world of anime.

Dropped TTGL. Dumb world and premise, and I hated the bikini doll they put in it as fanservice for no reason. The comedy was also super stale.

I learned this the hard way. I've introduced an ex girlfriend to anime and I honestly feel bad about it. When we were still together she got interested in anime so I suggested to watch Fullmetal Alchemist together. I thought she would like it but she didn't simply like it, no she really really loved it. At first it was quite harmless with just drawing some fanart (and she already liked drawing), but eventually she also started to act different. She started to use random Japanese words/nyaa sounds and she tried to act like a "cute/awkward" anime character. She always wanted to be a lawyer, but suddenly she wanted to study Japanese. I recently saw her for the first time in 3 years, so I was kinda interested in how she is doing nowadays, however she only wanted to talk about Seikon no Qwaser.

I tend to recommend people Death Note, as it is a very westernized anime that'll in the long run ease them in to the medium. This approach has so far been successfull everytime I've introduced someone to anime, which is like 5 or-so people. Some of these 5 are even more weeb than me now. >_>

ive given up, theres no point they're all so stubborn. Why is it that when they recommend 50 mins of some bs show I watch it ill always give things a go. But when it comes to 20 minutes of death note or attack on titan NOPE. When people make their minds up not to like some thing its unlikely you'd change their mind. Well at least not with ease.

Ive also come to realise that your friends don't need to be into anime, although it would be nice.

I once showed to two of my classmates the fight between Mami and Homura in Madoka Rebellion and they where like "wow that shit is intense" then i showed them a really gay scene between Homura and Madoka and they where "wow that shit is hella gay"

In the end one of them asked me how the anime was called again so I think I did a good job.

I usually recommend Psycho Pass, as the story is interesting, and its style is very Western, it doesnt scare people off with lolis, fanservice, or other similar things that are typically considered weird or perverted.

Oh yeah, I also often show people this fight as an example of a good action scene, people tend to like it. And I also heard some fun comments like: Do you enjoy watching little girls shoot each other? or: It would be so much cooler with soldiers. xD

It depends on their tastes. If someone doesn't generally like machines or war, I'm not going to recommend an anime with mecha or fighting in it. Likewise if someone doesn't like romance or sci-fi I'm not going to introduce those types of anime. So, it really comes down that what I know of that person and his/her personal tastes in general. Either way, there are some I wouldn't recommend right off no matter what, such as School Days or Evangelion.

If they like 'girls, girls' girls' I'd probably recommend High School DxD
If they like romance I'd probably recommend Itazura na Kiss.
If they like action / mecha I'd probably recommend Code Geass
If they want something dark with action and drama, I'd recommend Death Note.
etc...etc...

If it's just in general terms to introduce them to anime with no set genre in mind, I'd just give them a handful of Studio Ghibli films such as Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, and Howl's Moving Castle. That should do the trick.
"You babble on about how you want to know, but you're never prepared to handle it. To know means to be prepared to know. Once you find out the truth, there's no going back. You can't ever go back to being the way you were, blissful and unconcerned.'' -Nezumi; No. 6 (Light Novels; Volume 2, Chapter 5)
