I've heard way more songs sang by girls but I much prefer it when a guy sings. What do you like better on average?

Depends on the genre.

In most metal and their subgenres, I like guy's vocals (Some genres like symphonic metal go well with girl's vocals too though, like Nightwish). I really like it when they are mixed though, like in Eluveitie, as long as they have a good balance.

Pop is usually done by girls, so that sounds normal that way. Of course there are a lot of exceptions as well.

Female voices are more versatile and have larger ranges typically so I prefer listening to a difficult piece (Let it Go for example) sung by a female.

I like listening to male singing more though.

Depends on the song. But I prefer to not listen to any vocals, at all. That is why I like metal because there's growling which just blends in with the music so you don't actually listen to it, you only hear it.

I typically only listen to male vocalists with English language music, but many other languages have great female vocalists.

Depends on my mood. I prefer female vocals but sometimes you just need something really aggressive so that's when the male vocals come in.

can't say i prefer one over the other. in the opera for example, they often form a perfect unity and especially the contrast makes it beautiful

Male i guess?
Honestly, i never even notice the gender of the vocals or even think about it, but since most of the songs i listen have male vocals, i guess i subsconciously decided i like male vocals more.

It depends on the style of music, obviously. I love female vocals in jazz and folky music, and I like male voices when it comes to anything rock/metal, hip hop, et cetera. They can both be good, and I can't really figure out whether I have a preference or not.

Really depends on the genre and their singing style. If I were to generalize id say I like males and females with powerful but also beautiful voices.

For my music I have an overwhelming amount of female vocals to male. Its a pretty nice change when I listen to a song with male vocals. In the end I guess I still prefer female slightly.

The thing is, a male can sound like a female but a girl cannot sound like a man. That's partially why I prefer males overall. Guys just sound better for what I listen to, which is stuff in the techno, dubstep and pop categories (don't know their genres exactly but they come from here https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_aEa8K-EOJ3D6gOs7HcyNg ). Also, female vocals for japanese songs generally annoy me after a while. The higher pitch kills it. Actually, this applies to songs with english vocals as well.

I should have included an option for 'computer-generated' voices. Comment if that is your preference.

I mostly like female singers, especially those with versatile and powerful voices. Utaites like Hanatan or ChouCho are Japanese examples, though with J-pop I almost only listen to female singers, w/ all sorts of voices.

But I don't think you can beat the commanding sound of a (classical) bass-baritone singer.

I like both, dual male and female vocals songs are my fav. The Damien Rice/Lisa Hannigan type stuff. When you find two voices of opposing gender that work well together it's magical!

I prefer male vocals. I don't mind female singers but with them, it depends on the genre. A lot of females in punk bands have whiny high-pitched voices, like the vocalist in the band Cerce.

I usually value timbre and emotional side of the vocalist.
Even vocal skills are not that important, if I liked those.
Gender is irrelevant too, as long as the voice fits the context.

Depends on the genre really.

I like pop music sung by women more than pop music sung by men. But when it comes to harder 'rockier' genres I generally prefer male vocalists. There are exceptions for sure but that's how it is for the most part.

I honestly don't have any preference. I relate more to male vocalists but female-fronted music can sound very pretty. Some of my favorite songs are generally duets between the two.
