It looks like audition for the series has begun.

>The first auditions are held at Joysound's karaoke boxes across Japan from today December 1, 2014, to January 30, 2015.

You choose your most favorite Macross song from the karaoke list, record yourself singing the song by the box's "Utasuki Douga" function, then send the video via Joysound's special site for the audition. You must be 25 or under as of January 30, 2015, and a resident in Japan (it doesn't mean you have to be Japanese). You can be either a professional or amateur singer, but the condition is that you currently have no contract with any record companies, regardless it's a major or indie label.

It looks like they will make final decisions in April so it's safe to say that this won't be a Spring show. Fall is probably the best bet although it may also be next year.

I'd die with happiness if it was a fall show and damn that's a lot of people to go through. Can't wait to see the final result.

Wonder if they'll give us more than just the name of the singer who wins the audition competition when they announce results next month. Hopefully they'll give us some insight on the character design. Being it's taking place within 10 years of frontier, I'm wondering if Ranka or Sheyl might make an appearance. The anticipation is driving me nuts!

Judging by the art so far, it seems like the blue Valkyries are piloted by the idols and the greenish Valkyries are piloted by the bishounen men.

I wonder how the romance and such will work - I know the rest will likely be great, but the number of seemingly-main characters we're being shown troubles me.

I'm also worried it'll be too lighthearted, as even Macross Frontier had its darker moments.

Ah well, here's hoping it's good!

I really don't want to judge it just by this ,but damn does it looks extremely average and unimpressive (especially the CGI). Hopping for the better tho...

Very interesting, will be Macross Δ at least on the level of Macross F?

No, it will not.

Kawamori's output has been steadily declining in quality. Aquarion Logos, M3, Nobunaga the Fool. He simply cannot make a good series anymore. This Macross looks extremely generic. If it wasn't for the Valkyries, it could be any run of the stock mill show out there.

Kawamori will do a Lucas with this one. I hope he hands over the reigns of the Macross universe to someone else after Delta.

This looks so bad. And it makes me sad. Wish they didn't go the group idols route. Always loved Macross more when it had only 3 main characters.

Hope I'm wrong though.

First visuals for frontier didn't look all that great either. Although I agree his recent series have not been good.

Also, from what I understand the girls are not pilots (they support the VF-31 pilots) and quite a bit as far as characters has yet to be revealed, so we will see. I'm still hopeful.

I mean no one can say that this looked good, you can't even argue about it..... So this level of quality can only be understood if they thought THIS IS what audiences wanted, same can be said for various LN adaptations... and the result of all that is that average shows like Noragami(and pretty much for every other todays "TOP" anime) can be hailed as masterpiece just by having decent characters and progressing plot, because it's so rare to find something that used to be normal.

I hope it does. Seems a lot of posters here have already seen the first few episodes and know the quality of it.

One thing I'd like to see is that if this is on the same transport as MacrossF, then have there be cameos by the characters. I'm just wondering what Alto and Sheryl's kids would look like (yes, I shipped them).
What if the Hokey Pokey is what it is all about?

'Macross Delta' Looks To Be A Classic Entry To The Franchise

The upcoming Macross Delta series was finally revealed to the public today, from its new setting to its characters and mecha. All in all, it looks like this could be an interesting series and one that harks back to the original Macross.

Delta is set a few years after Macross Frontier and deals with something called the Var Syndrome that is ravaging the galaxy. In typical Macross form the “Tactical Sound Unit” Walküre (shown above right) appear to combat this through the power of song.

In addition to the main force, we also have the Aerial Knights from the Kingdom of Wind (shown above left). They pilot the Sv-262 Draken III, which is an all new delta wing design thus far unique to the Macross universe.

There are two things about the Draken III that are of note, the first is that it clearly based upon the Swedish fighter plane of the same name. The second point is that its alpha-numerical designation is similar to the SV-51 seen in Macross Zero.

This was an Anti-United Nations variable fighter and the resurgence of the same designation indicates these new Aerial Knights may have a similar affiliation.

In addition to the anime announcement, we also saw prototype toys of the two new variable fighters.

Bar all this, Satelight will be handling the production of the series and the character designs are being done by Chisato Mita. The latter also did the characters for Cpacom’s E.X. Troopers game and seem like a nice fit here.

While Macross Delta may not be the gritty wartime drama many were expecting, I am not entirely sure why people would think that in the first place. From the original Macross right up until the present day, Delta definitely fits in with both the style and spirit of classic Macross. Personally, I was impressed with what I saw (with the latest trailer shown below) and am looking forward to seeing the series when it finally airs.

Macross Delta is set to be previewed on Japanese television on New Year’s Eve, though there is no word on when the series will start after that.

This harks back to Macross 7, where this approach directly had an effect on the battlefield. In the series, both the rock group Fire Bomber and the Jamming Birds operated under a similar mandate though the former were arguably more successful.

The other major similarity to the Walküre group are the Milky Dolls from Macross Digital Mission VF-X. This was a full blown 3D Macross flight game on the PSone and was mostly awful, with the player having to save the Milky Dolls from capture.

It seems the new Walküre group are also using or connected to the use of the new VF-31 Siegfried. This is a direct continuation on from the YF-30 Chronos as seen in the PS3 game Macross 30, something I suspected would be the case.

I like the mc character design, mixed feelings about the others... (please don't let it be a harem, it's bad enough that the moe girl is probably going to win the love triangle. :/)

Chisato Mita from CAPCOM drew the new key visual. She previously did designs for the shooter game E.X. Troopers.

The official website http://macross.jp/ has 2 nice new visuals. One of them is from the character designer of Macross Frontier:

Edit: it's the one at the end of the opening.
