Once you've read the series you realize it not just throw in there fan service. Some of it innuendo for later in the series. |

bittersweetlove said: A lot of fan service...and for some reason I got myself wondering why I keep watching this... This is literally the only episode that has mostly fan service in it. Obviously people skipped through the author's political BS halfway through and on to the Rory scene that ether pleased people or pissed them off. Rory is pretty much the only character in the whole show who does anything remotely sexual or suggestive in a manner that doesn't make much sense story-wise. But hey, that's just who she is, compared to other shows this is the most she's done at EPISODE NINE. There are tons more ridiculous shit in other shows. I mean obviously Kill la Kill or Gurren Lagaan aren't your favorites if we're so bothered by it. Least she's a loli that doesn't have giant melons unlike blue-ribbon goddess. |

The Fate series references were pretty cool to see tbh, other than that it was the obligatory fan service episode. Meh, next time might be interesting when the agents reach them. |

You get 1 fanservice episode and the whole series is attacked and shat on..... There were 8 episodes with minimal fanservice in them, the 9th has fanservice at the front. "ANIME SHIT, FANSERVICE MUH!" Eh, such is the fate of the popular anime. Haters are going to find anything to attack on it, because its mainstream to hate something as it was proven by SAO. |
There is no "Good or "bad" anime. There is only different anime. |

Finally caught up with this anime. Its very good and entertaining,i like the premise alot. The fanservice was just 1 episode even tho its always weird for me to see a female with a kiddy body trying to ''rape'' a 33 yo lol. Will never understand whats so nice about it but everybody got their tastes i guess^^. 1) What i dont like is how other countries are getting involved.I dont think its made in a believable way and i find it boring kinda... Honest a gate opening to another world=resources/wealth/research its world breaking event and the way other countries are shown to react and trying to involve themselves seem stupid and not believable at all.The amount of ''diplomatic'' pressure on Japan would be beyond enormous.Even from day 1 other countries would have already sent ''reinforcements'' through the gate to ''help''.International army of soldiers, scientists would already have passed the gate. Its beyond stupid to make us think all these countries would just let Japan handle it,and so far their course of action is retarded imo. For usa especially if im not wrong even now there are about 40.000~ troops in japan and 10.000 marines. There's also a treaty in the 60's or sth about mutual security or sth,The U.S could easily take advantage of this and send through the gate some of their forces. Even if sending army would be hard, sending scientists and few agents along with them is like the least you would expect. It doesnt make sense that all they could come up with was to send ''Ramirez'' to meet up with the ''guests'' lol. 2) Also i wonder if we gonna be shown how cruel humans can be.Being Humane is cool but honest dragons/magical creatures/life forms that can live for hundred of years etc....Prolly almost all labs in japan would have already started experimenting on them and not in a humane way^^.Wonder if we gonna see some struggle over this. I just hope this wont be an anime about how Japan tries to help and communicate with the beyond the gate people while the rest of the world are just greedy people that want to take advantage of them.Would really kill the show for me^^. |

You do understand that the Gate showed up on Japanese soil, right? Meaning that other governments of the world have absolutely NO RIGHT to intervene, considering that any forces being brought into Japan would essentially be indication of an invasion of Japan, and could essentially be a declaration of all out war between whichever country sent their troops and Japan and it's allies. That's why each country is trying to use politics to sway the Japanese government to side with them, so as to "diplomatically" enable their own country certain leeway to access the Gate. And just because Japan allowed the US to station troops in Okinawa, does not grant said troops access to the greater Japan. Those troops aren't free to flit and fly around as they please, they are only allowed access to certain areas of the Okinawan island. Any further access they make, be it with scientists or whatever will have to pass through Japanese authorities and receive permission from the Japanese Government first. The Gate is a national problem, and Japan has not asked for International intervention, thus other nations can only back the fuck off until Japan asks for help. |

Also instead of trying to kidnap the ''guests'' some sort of negotiation for USA to send its own group scientists some agents to gather intel in return for financial aid along with some favours concerning korea+china for japan is the first thing any logical person would do.The way the countries and the political game is portrayed so far is like seeing a 5 yo playing a strategy game... Worst case scenario the United States and Russia just team up and invade Japan, and once their forces are eliminated, just go back to square one again of dividing the resources up inside Special Region. You make a valid point. The whole arc seems the be the authors cynical view of the world powers. It's very nationalistic to think that only Japan would be the virtuous, just, and humane country that wouldn't think of the new area as an exploitable resource. Which is laughable when you consider the JDF will make trade deals with one of the kingdoms to exploit all the mining resources, except currency metals. They knew full well it was taking advantage of the situation and the rulers ignorance to the true value of his resources. But no we're the good guys we never take advantage of someone. However, I don't Americans wouldn't team up with anyone. In Fact, the US is already in Japan, all over the country in fact, and in South Korea too. Only reason I believe China hasn't started an all out skirmish to retake the Senkaku Islands is because US is there. They don't fear the "Jayesssdeeff." BTW, I think Japan should rebuild a strong defense and get away from relying on USA involvement. I don't think US has the best interests of Japan at all. IF China were to REALLY push the issue in the area US would eventually back off. The liberals would cry "no blood for oil" or some crap. The conservatives would go "not our fight" or worse "That's for pearl harbor" like they've ever been there. I never felt that US or other powers wouldn't be obnoxious and self serving. I just thought the whole story line laid out in the arc was nonsense designed to be overtly pro-JSDF. Do i need to mention the story line of RAMBO 2 again?? I.E. "America! fuck yeah!" well this series is "NIPPON! Fucking YEAH!" Mod Edit: Modified quote of edited post. |

Fact is, there are many different lines of politics, not just the type you are looking at as the norm. Also, this is a work of fiction, hence the author has a right to make any setting that he wants. I would like to say, however, that what has been put out still makes a lot of sense. The land beyond the Gate is still unexplored, you never know exactly what you'll be getting, and even the Japan in the series are only beginning to explore the lands. Thus far they've already met with huge dragons, which with their modern firepower they were good enough to take out. However, that doesn't mean that there aren't other creatures in the beyond the Gate that modern weaponry won't be able to take down. In fact, before their reconnaissance, what proof was there that the land beyond the Gate was useable for the denizens of Earth? Given all the uncertainties, opting for a "wait and see" attitude makes sense for the other nations. The world isn't as united as you may think. Each nation is looking to further their own respective interests first and foremost (just look at Greece). Hence, if Japan is sending in their resources into a place where too many factors are unknown, why should other nations waste their already limited resources as well? Sometimes it doesn't pay to stick your nose in other peoples business. What if the exploration yields a class of unbeatable demons to attack Japan through the Gate? Would 'Merica or Russia or China want to waste their resources to get involved in a fight that they weren't privy to? Or would they rather use all their resources to protect their own lands? Politics involves a ton of factors. It's not like in the old colonial days where being first to the "New World" means you own everything there, and even then those settlers had to deal with wars with natives and the like. I don't know your views here, but for me, soft politics in this sort of situation, where no one knows what exactly is beyond the Gate, makes sense for the other nations. For them, they're just using Japan as resources for doing their reconnaissance, which is exactly what countries do in real life. |

Calm down people it's just anime. Yes, if this really did there would be significantly more political escalation in the four months (the anime) that have been covered so far. 1. Considering who is president now I don't think he has the guts to escalate in such a fashion, but his successor most likely would. Also, I would just like to mention we (America) have troops in Okinawa because of those two bombs we dropped on Japan many decades ago. Bombs that also made it so the Japanese constitution doesn't allow for the ownership of firearms or a traditional army. Only troops that may defend Japan. Big difference from an Army. Also breeds a lot of resentment towards Americans.... still. 2. Russia, N. Korea & China right now would be all over Japan like me on a bowl of pho. Don't take any of this to mean in real life a war would be going on, but I'm sure a few warning shots or at least SIGNIFICANT Naval presence close to or in Japanese waters. 3. Just wait for season 2. This show better have a season 2!!! |

Considering who is president now I don't think he has the guts to escalate in such a fashion, but his successor most likely would. I respect your opinion, but (please dont take this personally) its quite naive to think that a gate to another world (it almost equals to alien coming to earth lol) is something that is only Japan's national problem. Its also naive to think that the best the other countries could do is what was shown so far.....We talking about possible trillions in money resources/Magic that could help in medicine/ all sorts of other stuff that are important to humanity.Saying that it is japan's problem only is naive imo. As i said the diplomatic pressure from all around the world would be tremendous. At the end of the day not just USA but the whole world would get involved really. An international team of scientists/researchers/diplomats etc is sth i expected from like the first day.Surprised nothing like this was shown. And its not just USA at least the rest of the G8 countries could pressure for sth like this.In the long run tension would become even bigger,no way in hell countries would just let 1 country control the resources/scientific research etc from whole other world. And so far we saw no real pressure towards japan tbh. Being pressured by USA/Canada/Germany/UK/rest of europe etc is not sth easy and you cannot just say fk off to them like its nothing. This isnt child's game^^. Japan being isolated and war for resources is something that could happen given such scenario^^. I like this anime i just think it lacks in this kind of aspect. So hoping it wont be the main focus thats all^^.(and sorry if i offended you at some parts for the naive stuff) No worries, I'm not offended in the slightest, since it's all just your opinion. Well you make a point about letting japan waste resources and exploring the world etc.. But still USA's plan to send Ramirez to abduct the guests so they can talk to them doesnt make sense to me.Negotiating and sending some scientists/diplomats(along with some planted spies) to make contact and work from there seems to me more efficient and the first thing you would think of(and yes it doesnt cost that much). Also why would other Nations believe what japan telling them?Maybe japan wanna try pass off info about the other world isnt of any value? etc...like i said in my second point from my first post japan's lab would be full of creatures from the other world.Think at one episode the girl that used magic was held by japan's troops something tells me she prolly ended up in a lab getting experimented on and not in the most humane way. Greece is a nice example of where a country's sovereignty does not hold much value when it comes to great economical/geopolitical interests.... There's also ukraine as well.Same would be with Japan when the problem is actually a world breaking event^^. Any country would want first hand info from the gate, considering recent history and how alliances worked USA/UK/Germany+rest of europe would already found a way to send in people maybe not soldier but at least scientists/researchers few diplomats (few spies as well) Wonder if the gate opened in Europe prolly the gate's empire would already have joined eurozone lol Well anyway posted too many long stuff that sounds like a rant. I like this anime alot and especially how the battles are made so thought the political game would give a realistic impression as well.I stop here^^ |

We can keep discussing, im going to throw in my 2 cents here. Ok, why dont other countries send troops and stuff like that? Because of saving face. Look. If Japan wants, it can tell everyone to fck off and say that it can handle the gate alone. There are then 4 ways for any country to get acces to the gate or try to get access. 1. Diplomacy. It can be rejected. If anyone wants to send anything japan can just go all isolationist and reject everyone. Now especially since they have the gate. 2. Sanctions. Countries decide to give sanctions to japan. But then again. The public wouldnt aprove of it because it is basically for no reason (The gate isnt that scary and its in japan). And again, japan can isolate itself because of the other world resources. It has its own earth for god sakes, They could just fck off from our world and just live there easily. 3. War. Countries can send military to attack japan to get control of the gate. But again, public opinion matters in this case, they wouldnt approvve of this. Japan isnt irak or any country like that which could be blamed for terrorism and shit like that. And again, japan can handle that. Maybe it doesnt have the biggest army ever, but it ccan mobilize more forces faster than anyone would invade them, and then they could just again go through the gate and turtle down there. 4. Espionage. This is the best and most logical option. Noone other than the higher ups know anything about it. The spies and covert ops can simply do everything quietly. And if they get caught, their countries would deny any knowledge (remember that the equipmet the covert ops in this episode had was from japan? It doesnt incriminate any country). I agree that japan wouldnt maybe be that "good" so to say with all the things. But again, this is a work of fiction, someone has to be the "good guy" in this story. I mean rambo is basically a war criminal but is still treated as hero in his movies. |
There is no "Good or "bad" anime. There is only different anime. |

I like this anime alot and especially how the battles are made so thought the political game would give a realistic impression as well.I stop here^^ You seem to have forgotten that the denizens from beyond the Gate first appeared in Japan and started slaughtering people in Tokyo without mercy. It was all captured and reported via the internet and international news channels. Given a situation like that, would you actually think that the US or any other country would be willing to risk sending their best and brightest scientists and diplomats into the Gate just to claim a piece of the proverbial pie, when no one knows what is inside the Gate in the first place, or even just how safe this "New Land" is? For all anyone knows the Gate could have been a path to Hell and anything going into there without a gun could be slaughtered mindlessly. There are way too many unknown factors to those countries without access to the Gate, so why would they risk their resources if they could potentially lose it all? Like I said before, Japan itself, the first country into the Gate, has only just begun to delve into the Gate, and given the Gate being right in the heart of Tokyo it makes sense for them to do so. If anything comes through the Gate, Japan would be the first line of defense for the rest of the world. They are forced to make this defensive stance. Other countries are NOT. You seem to be thinking in terms of a conqueror whereby you know for a fact that there are resources to be had through the Gate, but the situation in the story isn't like that. No one knows just what lies beyond, and that's why Japan, being the heart of the story, are the first to send in troops to perform reconnaissance, and also why other countries would rather not risk their own resources and let those immediately threatened by the Gate itself to do the dirty work. Need I remind you that even in the story, the first reports regarding the lands beyond the Gate were from the Senate inquiry that we saw two episodes ago. Not only the rest of the world, but even the people of Japan itself know nothing beyond what the JSDF have discovered about the "New Land". What you are seeing, with the US "inviting" the first people from the new land for an interview, is exactly other countries maneuvering politically to acquire first hand information (from Pina and the other citizens of the Gate lands) for themselves. Each country knows nothing beyond what Japan have reported, and all of them are trying to glean useful, verifiable data of the Gate for themselves. They're not trying to band together to share information, and if one country acts hostile towards Japan, or forces their demands on them (such as bringing in their own countries scientists or army, and such), then obviously the other countries will put their weight behind Japan and veto the demanding country. Essentially you are correct in saying Japan is under enormous political pressure, but since three supposed super powers are vying for a piece of the proverbial pie, and no one wants to share, then as in the show, everything overt is at a political standstill, and the only way each country can put themselves in an advantageous seat, is to resort to covert political maneuverings. It's not like such situations were uncommon in human history either. |

It's not like such situations were uncommon in human history either. well with some of your points you got me.But still i dunno how to explain it in english its like the whole international pressure is not shown. Also the way they portray it is not so interesting and not done in a good way? Where's the espionage?Scientists experimenting on people from other world?Big corporations in japan taking advantage of it?The corruption in Japan? nothing is shown in realistic way. It is clearly 100% portrayed as the incompetent foreighn nations with imaginary ''pressure'' try to take advantage of the people from beyond the gate. I wouldnt mind and its natural japan is the good guys in the anime but at least make the other countries plans and the whole pressure more believable to have more suspense or sth? Also what you say this happened in Tokyo and war with the other world for 2 years.Do you know how much this would affect Japan's economy. Not only that but amidst that chaos no spy/agent from other country couldnt take advantage of it?(Or just in case for example USA offering financial aid and some reassurances for a more clear opinion about china/russia actions for some insurances that they will have their ''fair'' share of the pie in case that world had resources or some insurance in case japan couldnt handle it for help in return for certain things cmon..) Example China +russians ships making naval drills near japan while japan fighting the gate people and establishing the camp,USA couldnt take advantage of it then for example and offer some financial aid towards japan if they let few scientists of them be within the japanese camp? The amount of information they would gather would be much better than ''talking'' with some guests. They could also check if the japanese let all the info out. (Would japan really be able to refuse an ''offer'' of help from one of their biggest ''allies'' while being in such a situation). This would be pressure for me. Its also naive for anyone to think that the japanese would let all important information especially about resources out in the open....thats just not possible even if you are japanese i think you wouldnt believe this lol.The plan was just shown so that while ramirez dies he makes sure to say damn japanese soldiers are so good....cmon Certain countries had always been USA satelites through time, example UK.USA+UK then prolly in matters like these rest of europe follows tbh. The gate would be any scientist's dream. If any country wanted info the most easy way for me to do it would pushing some sort of ''international'' scientist team on the pretense of this event is not just japan's problem and its something that involves the whole world etc(along with some real diplomatic pressure in the backround)...Or use the UN or sth..... Made long post again, just saying the Pressure is not shown to be so big or not in a good way? We prolly never gonna end this discussion tbh if we keep going....so this time i really stop here XD |

Of course after that we would be waiting a good three or so years.... a la Log HorizonYou're gonna have to wait a long time for a season 2, considering that this first season is already slated to be a 2 cour 24 episode show ;) |

Wow, a very good episode :D glad to see they bring countries into play now, this has got to be in my top 3 this season :) I seriously didn't know whether the show will focus more on the alien world with their corrupted alliance or the human world with the government filth, but with so many episodes still unaired I think they might show both :D That ending tick me off, why did they end like this? That's exactly what this show is. Sulfurian said: You have to realize that this whole arc was done in order for the author to vent on and on about his views and how Japan is the greatest and purest nation ever. No way would the Japanese military take advantage of the other worlders unlike THE EEEEEEEVIL Americans, China, Russia, ect. The Japanese are the ones that have to tread carefully the most. Worst case scenario the United States and Russia just team up and invade Japan, and once their forces are eliminated, just go back to square one again of dividing the resources up inside Special Region. And why should we tolerate that bad writing? |

gate/zero too op. Assassin got told to standby tho lol (not in subs). Beautiful dresses. Tuka needs a new attire each episode. Leilei seems to like hugging... Curious about her backstory, since she's 15 yet doesn't miss her parents like Tuka does. Waiting to see Tuka's yumi, asymmetric kancolle style or some hi-tech foldable bow? |

LOL at the otaku music when the gang are loitering at the streets of Tokyo. COMIC MUJIN is the thing that Itami gave to the Defense Minister! blasphemy!!! hehe! Archer, Lancer Grail? what the F??!? reFerences!? Rory is already a God, so sense like 450m are nothing to her! Princess Blonde is always reminding Pina that this is another world...Pina always forgets... what are those different soldier forces? who are they? why are they killing and headshoting each other like it was just a sabagebu!?!? Kurebayashi's boobs was ERO! What an erotic cliffhanger! 5/5. |

Episode quite enjoyable and interesting in his narrative, perhaps the features comedians will not disappear ever, now if realized. The story behind the wheel of Itami and his battalion, and continues with interesting developments. Quite satisfied with the drawings and animations, announced cliffhanger enough, it was also the time that thing happened between Itami and Rory. :P |

People who think anything will come out of this situation has clearly not watched enough anime. Japanese authors are worthless beings who can't do anything surprising. He touched her breast once and she hit him and called him pervert, and now she's all over him. Really consistent character and not at all just impulsively added fanservice. |

TOnight on Gate. Rory is best girl. Cock-blocking is deadly. More at 11. Ep 9. Plot: After meeting Itami's ex-wife Risa Aoi, the group go through little shenanigans and shopping. Itami meets with a contact/ally and proceeds to go to the hot springs. While the JG handles intruders at first, some political "help" from America allows the USA troops to attempt a kidnapping. In more important news, Rory almost gets the Itami pole. But then cliffhanger... Character: Itami seems to either have a low opinion on his health combat wise or is just really lackadaisical. I wonder how much the love between him and Risa. She seemed to feel more for him but as said, Itami is in that zone where people don't pick up on feelings. Animation/sound: It was a fun and sweet thing. But the end was just soooo good. 5/5. THat ending made this ep. And next time we see the dangers of cock blocking and why you should not do it. Btw, someone should make a gif of Itami's hands reachin for that Rory. |

And after reading the corresponding chapter in the novels it all makes sense now... Using the Master-Servant system naming scheme for the Special Forces operations was all Itami's idea xD also, they DO have 7 operator-teams so we might get to see all Servants at some point lol You're the best Itami xD |
