Why do people tend to think all 70s and 80s anime was mostly just mecha?

Is the influence of late 00s and 10s series something measurable at this point and age?

No it's not and it wasn't even my point. I wasn't comparing which decade was more influential in anime industry. I only said that there were many series in 80s that were very influential which is the fact and it's apparent in many anime that came out much later.

There were even more influential works in 60s (for example Tezuka Osamu's works) but not in such amount as in 80s.

That's not true. That era has its fair share of magical girls too.

There have been several "why do new anime fans think this way about oldschool anime" lately. I think we should just all agree there are dumb fans from both sides and move on.

Uhm, fine then. You know, I tend to jump too fast when the argument of influence is made in this whole old vs new scheme because the grounds are never going to be comparable. And a few people AKA FGAU are quite prone to using it. So if that's not what you mean then everything's fine and I apologize for the misunderstanding.

Exactly. While this is an assumption from me and not completely correct, it almost seems like some people are desperate to find as much faults as possible with new fans and are bitter this site mainly talks about new anime and not old.

There were less shows per season compared to now, but overall, it's about the same number of mecha shows for each year as we do now.
