Since the dual audio dub has been around for a while now, I want to find out whether people here prefer watching this series with subs or do they like the english dub more.

Cast your votes and reasons why. If choosing subs, tell us what subs version you've watched (gg, evetaku, funimation, etc)

Personally I liked the subs version better. I found Erin's voice in the dub sounded too whiny and annoying. Mikasa didn't have the smooth sexy voice like in the subs and Levi sounded too deep compared to his quiet abrasive killer voice in the original. Other than that rest of the supporting cast were fairly decent.

The subs version I watched was from GG. I did a quick comparison with the funimation subs script and I actually liked the fansub better than the "official" one!

I liked both but the japanese was obviously better.
Levi's voice in the english dub though. Holy damn it was cringe-worthy and hilarious at the same time :D

Some animes actually have dubs that are way better than the subs though. Code Geass, Baccano, School Rumble on top of my head.

So trying to get objection opinions from ppl who've seen both.

I'd go with sub because the dub voices never really felt like they fit the characters well, though a few did.

Sub voices are way better. Have you heard the dub Titan roar it sounds horrible. The only thing that was better in the dub was that it was in blu-ray form which fixed most of the weird art issues it had in the TV version.

Personally, I usually like listening to English cause I speak English and reading is a pain. Because of this I personally prefer dub even if Eren's voice acting is pretty bad. But I guess I can see why people would prefer subbed versions. Still I'll cast my vote for dub to counter the sub-elitist crew.

To put it more simply, the Japanese version is probably technically *superior* but not as user-friendly for me. And I'm one lazy bastard.

But, Baccano is amazingly dubbed. And coming from someone who didn't watch it in the 90's and grew up on newer anime, so is Cowboy Bebop. The Space Dandy dub is very good too.

I think many of you should let go of your Nationalistic Japanese views. Just because it's Japanese doesn't mean it's great. It's quite "Weeby" and childish. You shouldn't auto hate a dub because it's a dub.

That being said, I like the sub for Attack on Titan.

Sorry if I came off as rude, I just have a great disdain for Nationalism and Patriotism on a whole.

I dont have nationalist views. Cowboy Bebop isnt better in English just because Spike has a Robot voice.

Both versions are good. As for Baccano, I cant comment, but if its as bad as the DRRR dub it probably sucks.

I absolutely loved Erwin's english voice! that's enough reason for me to choose dub over sub

PD: I have only watched AoT once in japanese, so that's probably why I'm not so attached to the japanese version (even though some sounded better in japanese imo, like Levi's voice)

but the english version of Erwin's voice is just...<3<3<3<3<3<3

can't wait to hear the german version now :D!
(the only thing I ask is that THEY NEED to cast the guy that voiced detective Castellanos from The Devil Within, I don't care which character, but I want to hear his voice again xD)

I don't think the reason why sub club is so anti-dub has anything to do with nationalism. I think the two main factors are: (1) Elitism, (2) Preference for watching in original language. Even if (2) is what motivates a lot of people, their overall pushiness toward watching subs makes them appear as elitists.

And "Attack on Titan" dub is pretty damn good. I've watched both, and generally just prefer the dub for the reason that there's less distracting me from the great artwork. And it's in Europe so English is slightly more appropriate.

Sub-only-elitist are weird.
There is no real reason why a sub is always superior.

As for AoT, I'm say Dub is superior.
The VAs do a great job in both languages, but the VAs and the studio behind it did a great job.

Also, regardless of which people prefer, if they watch both, they have to agree that the script in English is far superior.
Like... leagues better.

Anybody who says otherwise simply go to Forums to Post "Sub Only" and not actually try both.

Edit: The Titan shouts in Japanese are also painful as hell to listen to. I hate it. xD

Both are good. Subs is considered better by most and i've watched it subbed and dubbed. However I have to choose dub because of certain characters voice's in the dub like Erwin, Hanji and Armin are better in MY opinion.

No people complain because the sub for DBZ is just inferior to the dub.. Point blank period. The only sub voice acting that gets any type of recognition without getting bashed is Frieza and even then you barely hear about it due to

1) Nostalgia for Linda Young
2) Ayers' VA for Frieza

Yes the sub is inferior. Dry your tears

To be honest man, I had a similar question to you about which is better since I haven't watched this show yet. However there definitely is a major elitist view on subs throughout the anime world. To be honest more often than not with amines I prefer dubs for the simple reason that they are very close to the same and I don't have to read words and miss the visuals.. A lot of times japenses voice actors, especially young male characters, sound like women and screech when they yell, which is annoying imo. Also in regards to the Titans roar which I watched the video of, they both suck. Japenses sounds like a man that got kicked in the nuts and English sounds like your tv is breaking.

''Dry your tears''? Where in my comment did I mention anything about loving the DBZ sub or the dub being inferior to the sub? I never said ''it's fantastic and so much better than the dub!!!!1!!!''. I said it ''wasn't bad''

Also, inferior ≠ bad

Armin's English voice actor sounded like a forty year old man who just hit puberty. And the majority of the voices reminded me of a YouTube parody/abridged. I mean Armin says "belly-up" during one scene... I did like Annie and Erwins voices though.

I watched the entire anime in sub and dub and what i noticed was that the translation was different. The dub is not entirely different from the sub, of course not... but the details of conversations are often different thus meaning that the dub gives you a slightly different perception of the characters, the plot and story. Because of this, it also doesn't feel as dramatic and dark, the thing I mostly love about this anime. Background music is also better with sub, when a cutscene ends the music gets a little quiet and doesnt stay the same as with the dub. because the music stays the same, it seems like the scene abruptly stops. The voices are also A LOT better with sub. O yeah the last thing, the narrator in the sub sounds sooo EPIC!, but with the dub it sounds like a teen almost out of his puberty..

I have started watching it today and i found the dubbed(adult swim) and subbed(crunchyroll)forms.
Personally (just from watching two episodes) i like the subbed way more.
The subbed language was alot more thought out, personal, and heart felt
I compared episode 2 with the subbed and dubbed. I like the subbed more because of the personality.
While the dubbed i a lot more easier to watch.
I would go with the subbed

The dub sounded fine to me; I had no major problems with it. I just can't get into ANime by watching it in Japanese, period. While I have nothing against the talents of everyone involved, it's hard for me to connect in a language I don't understand. and as long as I'm being entertained by the dub, that's all that matters. I've sat through a lot of dubs and enjoyed ones that some considered "unwatchable", and I found that the were nothing like that at all. Dubs in general deserve a chance.

Now having said that, yes, I HAVE on occasion seen dubs that grated on me, but Attack on Titan isn't one of them. It's been a while since I saw it, and I don't really remember much of it, but I did like what I saw.

I think both are pretty equal on this one. I haven't watched thru on sub but Eren's voice for one is better; although the his English dub isn't bad by any means. And tbh honest I much prefer Levis and Mikasas voice in the English dub. The supporting cast for both does a really good job imo.

Dubs can't preserve the character personality and are usually being watched by people too lazy to read subtitles. Once spoke to a girl which is almost fanatic over Fairy Tail and when I found out she watched the English dub version and told her that the sub version had more episodes and stuff and suggested her to watch that one she denied.
