It's common in RPGs in general. You'll see terms from folk lore and world history used in games. I kind of like it though. It has a certain aging feel to it.

Because latin sounds cool and Japan is already obsessed with Europeans.
And Latin was always the language of "magic". Back in the medieval ages real people used spells and prayers (not throwing fireballs or anything unrealistic) in latin so latin for spells in fantasy games makes sense.

because japanese are asian and asian people are known for their severe lack of imagination which is the reason they are horrible at mmorpgs compared to western players, since mmos rely more on brain and imagination than mechanical skill like most other games do that asians excell at

While it's not a spoken language anymore it's still used for scientific terms, taught at school and by the Church.

Japanese are more obsessed with German, imo. I mean, just look at how many german names they use and german references they draw in manga and anime. I think it outweighs their fascination for latin.

The thing they have for German stuff is so much, there have also been studies on it:

Because Japanese first experience of the European culture is the day the Portuguese missionary landed at Tanegashima in 1543 and then created the first colonial trading port in Nagasaki along with missionary spreading concept of Christianity and merchants promoting arquebus firearms.

It has changed the face of warfare in Japan and all warring warlords wanted to gain access to the production technology so they had to maintain a good relation with the missionary. It is probably the first drive for Japanese to learn Latin since it was the language of the missionary academia and even allowing them to spread Christianity in their lands. One notable example is Oda Nobunaga who made a deal with the missionary in order to gain trade access to China (emperor of China banned Japan merchants from their ports) and to the European firearms technology, the Tanegashima guns.

After Hideyoshi started to close Japanese ports to foreigner because of slavery trade issue, the Japanese almost got cut off from the European technology access, it was later on during the Meiji restoration era Japan then intensifies their intellectuals to study European technology, this time they largely adopted the Germany (Prussia) model of education and hired large number of Germany intellectuals to teach in Japan under the guise of Foreign Government advisors (oyatoi gaikokujin).

In short, the adoption of Latin and Germany in Japanese pop-culture is strongly related to their historical significance in their international relationship and influences in intellectual and education culture.

There is no predominantly about it, English is a Germanic language.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Germanic_languages

That being said, Latin is obviously very important in English. But our grammar structure is very different.

I know that is part of the germanic branch but i answered to this: "English is predominately Germanic" which is not correct since the major influence comes from latin and romance languages, but we're out of topic now.
