Does adulthood feel like you thought it would?

When I was a kid, like many kids, I looked up to adults. I thought they were the coolest. Tall, smart, and wise. I couldn't wait to grow up. I couldn't wait to become an adult. To be free from school, free from doing homework or listening to my parents. I could finally go to bed whenever I wanted to when I became an adult. Well, it eventually did happen. And I find myself always reflecting back on the images I had about adulthood as a kid and compare to them now. I don't fit the image I had in my head. Not even close.

So to all you adult MALers out there. Does your adult life match the one you had as a kid? What was the one you had as a kid? How is it different?

I knew adulthood would suck when I was 14 and it sucks as much as I thought it would then. It's pretty much exactly as I expected: bills, responsibilities, and shit going wrong.

Please. Everybody over the age of 5 knows that the role of an adult is to puff out their chest, say "tax exemption" a few times in the presence of others, and acquire a taste for freeform jazz.

What else were you expecting?

I just turned 20 and already I'm like "Fuck this. I wanna be twelve again".
I wish there was a 16th grade in high school so I wouldn't have to go 50k in debt to go to college.
Now I have to worry about being kicked out of my house.
And worry I might be foreveralone.
I wouldn't have these problems if I was 12 ;(

I thought I would miss being a kid.
I don't.
I look back on those days and think about how much wiser I am now.

I thought being an adult would be easier because they don't have to go to school, but since I've finished school i've realised that i'm not necessarily any happier now that i've finished, they're just a new set of harder challenges to face. If anything, you have more responsibility when your an adult. I don't want to get any older now!

That's why i still act like a kid, because i'm giving myself false hope that i'm still one. ;A;

Even though i'm not that old. ^ - ^

It's not that I'm super full of hate for being (technically) an adult... I'm more upset with my life in general, than I am about my age. I'm upset about things that aren't really affected by how old I am, but rather, choices I've made.

I suppose in that sense, I hate being an adult. I hate the fact that I'm getting older by the day, and there are things I still can't fix, or change. It's painful, and I don't know how to even begin to accept it.

No, I don't feel like an adult. Actually, I feel younger now than I did when I went to high school. But I've become a bit wiser about life. I don't care so much about what others might think anymore. I will start study on a college in 2015, hope it will be fine.

It's different to what I imagined. Some things in it are better, some things are worse; but overall being an adult is better than a kid or teen.

Seems majority of users who commented don't like it.
Maybe they haven't mentally reached adulthood yet. I don't know.

I myself enjoy the independence even though it's a bit more work. But finally being able to do what you want, not do what you don't want, while at the same time being aware of the consequences definitely makes the experiences I have now more meaningful than when I was a kid who didn't know any better.

Not at all.
I turned 18 this year and it's the age in Germany where you are officiall allowed to do anything.
I feel like the child version of myself who has been put inside an adult body and someone said: "look out for yourself now."

I never thought about it when I was a kid. Right now I think if a people can have a chance to do something they like to make a living it might not suck that much but for me it's a big pile of s**t

I don't want to grow up yet.
I'm not craving independence so much and would preferably live the way I am now.
Hopefully my adult life will give me a pleasant surprise.
Seems like most people here aren't too happy about it.

I can see you

Contrary to what many posted here, I didn't consider myself adult until I got my first salary. At that time, my father was like, "Okay, from now on I won't give you money anymore." That is a big deal. I'm still his child but he won't include me when he goes to buy snacks, if I want something for dinner mom tells me to buy it with my own money, etc.

The problem is not about money, I do have fun treating my siblings and all, buying anything I want. But things like those make me realize that being adult is so lonely. I got freedom but it means they set me free all alone by myself, taking care of myself, being responsible for anything I do myself.

I already forgot the details of what I imagined adult to be. Beside that loneliness, I think my current life lives up to my previous expectations.

I'm 21. I was hoping I would find some purpose or a path in adulthood. Instead, shitty job, shitty pay, shitty grades, and a shitty attitude. All that has come with age so far is being more aware of my failures. Adulthood sucks. I want to be 12 again.

For me, adulthood doesn't feel as bad as I thought it would. I never in my life wanted to 'grow up' or anything like that. Once I finally did, I found myself enjoying it. There are a lot of things that are a pain n the ass but it's not so bad overall.

I can definitely echo on this. If you don't have anything when your 20, then you're not likely going to have anything when you're 30 either. Being adult is not going to bring any such merits with it. Actually you only get weaker and will have less opportunities the more time passes.

you can factor in the economic crisis and job opportunities too, in the past my father was just a high school graduate and when he gotten employed the employer trained him to be a good butcher, you rarely can see situations like that now a days, today employers want their employee to have experience already on the required job

Being an adult is amazing. I lived on my own for two months a short while ago before moving back to my parents and worked so I guess I experienced the 'full' adult life. (I'm 19 btw). Living prices drove me back, not that I wanted to come back.

*Anyway you have the liberty and choice to do whatever you want. Go clubbing/partying with friends or bars and return back at 4 in the morning (best years of your life are in your early 20s btw). Work in whatever field you want. If possible have a partner who could share your life with you and happiness. You build your life when your an adult while your parents build yours while your a child.

It's sad to see that many people who watch anime/read comics lack behind normal people judging by 95% of these responses. I'm not scared to insult members here by implying anything

I'm 20 but I've still got a long way to go before I can comfortably call myself an adult.

I'm aiming high here, so actual adult life should be pretty sweet. It'll at the very least be better than being a kid, because pretty much everything looks better compared to the childhood and teenagerhood I had past 9 years old lol.
☕ Truth be told, I'm quite proud of my house blend. To attain my flavor and fragrance, I use five different types of coffee beans. ☕

Looking back I never really put much thought to the future, just sort of focused on what was front of me. I knew it wasn't going to be rainbows and sunshine, but I like adulthood better than being a child. I like the freedom, but of course with the freedom comes responsibility.
