"Who We Are Fighting For"

The last flashback episode. After this episode chronologically comes episode 1, then episode 5.

Hope this is the last one.

Screwing with the order of the early episodes in this way has really harmed my ability to get into the show so far, I'm hoping I'll like it more now that the run of flashbacks is finished.

Great, we were able to se how Uso was nervous killing this guy. It shows that, well, he's just a kid forced to fight in a war.

This redhead guy with that mask is an attempt to create another Char? I hope it's not.

Also, the girl's voice at the epilogue is lovely <3

It's too bad they had to switch up the order of the episodes. I think all the core fighter teasing at V Gundam and build up would have been pretty effective in making the next episode (episode 1) a pretty dramatic gundam entrance.

So not the best hand-off back to straight continuity, but they did what they could. After seeing it all, it's indeed a shame it wasn't ordered the way the creators originalyl intended.

While some of them are a little fanciful, I always love the use of booby traps and timed weapons in Gundam.

Cronicle's meeting with Shakti was a nice way to show his humanity.

Unicorn isn't "canon" anyway. Otherwise it's a huge paradox in the UC timeline.

I wasn't sure before but I can now declare that characters action commentaries describing their every moves are BACK from Zeta ! Well, it's not like all the regular dialogues had the Zeta touuch, at least.
The hero's first kill was over-dramatized compared to all the previous cases (Amuro, Camille, Judau, etc) to the point I found it annoying rather than compelling. It may be excused by his younger age.

Despite that, the episode seemed fine. It even justifies Uso's relative ability to pilot and why he doesn't seem like a country boy airhead. But this raises another question: who are his parents to own such a big underground server installation?!

Not really, after the few Newtype-specialized units who were giants that we can see toward the end of the first UC century, costs lead to a size reduction (already visible in F91) and Newtypes were'nt probably hasty to come out of the closet (so, why bother to make mechas for their use). You will also notice some new technologies who appeared during the 2nd century like the beam shields (who were'nt in Unicorn by the way).
Another thing is that Unicorn is a series of novels who kind of forced itself into the chronology, and it can create a few inconsistencies (like when you compare the technology level of a 0083 Gundam to Zeta's new Gundam Mk.II)

@St0rmblade Seeing how much was lifted from F91 (themed Mobile Suits, Jupiter area "nobility", etc), Karl was probably Tomino refusing to leave the F91 baby in the bin.
The discrepancy between the eyecatches and the tone of the series may be coming from the Tv slot troubles Tomino went through (see his highly interesting talk with Anno once you're done with the show). About the sequence itself, just play along and take a screen of each eyecatch up to the last episode. ;)

I fear for Üso sanity... I always concern myself with the mental health of the Gundam pilots since my first run with this franchise.

Another solid episode. I think the show not starting in order really threw me off.

I'm really digging the background music in this series. Also.. Uso got his first kill and it was a lot more awkward to watch his first then when previous protagonists in the Gundam series did.

Dio is bombing a forest, what a bad guy. At least he didn't kill the dog and was defeated before that.

The baby (Karl) is already annoying, even more than kids in other Gundams (they were at least fooling around, here Karl's just screaming into my headphones). Though I get why he was included (another war orphan, to show the cruelty of war and give a role to the girls, something along these lines)

By the way, these childish eyecatches totally don't match the overall tone of the show so far (with war crimes shown in the 2nd episode already)

Uso's name is kinda ironical given that it sounds like "lie" or "otter" in Japanese. Pun intended, huh?

I agree; he was different from Sabato, who was quick in attacking the city and the forest. Im curious to know more about this character
