now it may be enough to encourage tons of people to use the service, imagine having the ability to stream or download an anime episode or series the way steam provide an easy access to your purchased game.

But what is important is having a file type that can provide a 1080p viewing experience in lower file size, if someone can create an encoder that can provide that and have only the "anisteam" the only capable software in playing the said file.

Another important detail is gaining a large man power to properly sub a weekly anime, if lets say a corporation like steam purchased multiple sub groups like commie, and horriblesubs it's just might be possible.

Piracy cannot be eliminated by censorship piracy is a type of service that people will use, the only way to eliminate piracy is to provide a better alternative.

People are willing to pay for the things they like especially the things they are passionate about, and anime lovers are one of the most passionate group of people that I know, If a service pops up that provide a better solution than piracy people are still willing to pay. Steam, GOG and many more services provide great alternatives compare to piracy.

Just imagine a centralized software where all your anime are purchased, kept and easily accessible at moments notice.

Just the thought of a better encoder that cuts the file size in half while still providing a 1080p experience is enough to have pay an extra $, I know I am. A 1080p 12 episode series thats only a few gigs of space is enough to encourage people to buy it.

but this is just a big scaled small pipe dream... who knows maybe the pc master race commander Gabe Newell likes anime and make a steam-like anime service. Someone send valve a couple of great anime maybe they will consider :D

Also hope they won't target all those scanlation groups and translators, that would suck for those who can't read Japanese. Hopefully it'll just be some sites from China...I can't open that PowerPoint so I don't know which ones Japan is targeting.
Plus, this thing won't work for that long, people are just going to post and translate those work by YouTube, tumblr or sites like that...

It's the FIVE FRIGGIN' HUNDRED Manga series that frighten me...

If I were the Japanese government, I would naturally target Manga because it's easier and more effective. That's why the difference in the numbers of targeted Manga/Anime series is huge ! And not only that.... They're targeting websites from different countries ! I see Mein Manga in the list (German) and I see the top English-language online-reading sites and I see the top RAW JAPANESE sites, too.

Mein Manga is the only German site I've ever found that's a bit satisfying, for some reason. So no one will care about saving it.
English-language sites will pull through, no matter what. At least one or two. It is certain.

Raw Manga sites.... NOT SO SURE. They can look up any title in Google and open all resulting pages and there the links will be ! They can click on any of the links (say, Freakshare, or TurboBit, etc) and send the request for the website which will naturally take the files down. It always happens. That's why I'm most worried about Raw Manga.


I'm planning to start a download festival and save as many raw manga series as I can (at least the ones I care about most and don't have). If anyone else is interested, I'll start an independent thread. This may (and may not) be as frightening as I imagine :|

Don't blame me for so much piracy.... I live in a place isolated enough in terms of availability of stuff (books in other languages, DVDs) and I have yet to find a translated Manga series :D and that's why everything we buy is pirated. *bought The Sims 3 for the equivalent of 1$ *
