yeah, this seems to most peoples main problem it, even though this is only the first ep but still, his gag reaction right after his friends died was pretty where'd even though they'll show him mourn for them in the next ep
As been said again and again, that he mourns them later doesn't excuse that this particular scene sucked.

Seeing what I believe to be two of his best friends (if not the only ones in the village) in that state I would expect him to be shocked. Perhaps so much that when he got dragged away he would be like a corpse.
Perhaps this was rushed and it was better in the manga, but that's something I don't know.

The gore is also rather meh imo, I wonder if this will be a serious/dark show, right now I feel like it could be Black Bullet all over again.
I almost never read discussions after I made my post, if you want to reply PM me or post on my profile page.

Of course he's shocked, but the scene failed miserably to show/capture that.

I hear it's the same in the manga.

No this seems like it will be a faithful adaptation so probably won't be like BB.

As a huge fan of the manga this was fucking awesome. They followed the whole thing through. 10/10, can't wait to see how they adapt further events.

Pwahahahahah! No.

Hanayamata and Barakamon are above this, so is Shounen Hollywood.

The three you listed will not be as popular as akame ga kiru. i have a feeling this'll blow up like attack on titan did last year, judging by how western fans also love there gore and death and are also going to latch onto this series. Since popularity and sales are the only way to really tell which anime is "better" then another, i'm willing to wager akame ga kiru will easily surpass there sales and obtain a large fanbase by the end of the fall season.

Whoa! This thread is more than 56 pages already! What more if I take a look at the SAO II thread.

Anyway. Good episode. Tatsumi was too naive I had to facepalm. I feel bad about his two bestfriends getting tortured and killed. Sayo is cute. Aria got what she deserves.

I'm not much of a fan of Gore and Death, but I feel like trying this one up, and other ones like Tokyo Ghoul.

@sagax07
Those 3 are better in my personal subjective opinion. I'm starting to have some more respect for slice of life stuff over action.
And popularity is NOT indicative of quality, it is indicative of entertainment value. I'm looking for some things which are more than just that.

@Magito
Blame Solvite for that. Not to mention exposition setup episodes aren't exactly fun. And SAO didn't leave much for a discussion.

I thought the anime would've been more serious as seen in the manga. Towards the ending where Tatsumi's two friends were killed, he acted as if nothing happened. I hope the show takes a more serious route. But then again it's probably not going to.

I hope this takes a serious route, honestly, I would have awarded my personal 10/10 to this first episode if they didn't have to slap on cheesy fairy-tail like humour on the last scene. I was expecting some emotional stuff right there, not something I've seen thousands of times as anime is starting to become so cliché these days.

Well who knows, who cares. We got 23 episodes remaining and I heard that they're going to stop on volume 8; not sure if it's the beginning or end of it.

It'd be great if the mood swings weren't so jarring. I mean, the poor guy didn't even get a chance to mourn his buddies.

Well to be fair the authorities were already coming since the guard said they would barricade themselves inside the warehouse and wait for their arrival. So no time to let the guy grieve since they were behind schedule

This is what people are so hyped up about???? I'm shocked a show like this has already managed to get in the mal top 200.

Main character's power cannot be underestimated and who with the power of friendship will overcome any villain. Big sister figure who exists for fanservice, loves drinking and makes that paaaah sound afterwards. Mysterious, badass but emotionless girl who utters some redundant phrase over and over again when killing. All three are so original.

Introducing some characters for the sake of having their death spur the hero towards something/go crazy and kill someone (fridging) is really really poor writing.

The transition between comedic and serious moments is jarring. Was I even supposed to care for the guy's friends?

Really black and white villians so far. The rich girl's just some "evil" whose death is cheered for by the audience. Hopefully this changes later on. The group of assassins themselves don't seem very black and white but the biggest baddie so far was so meh.

I guess i'll keep watching for a few more eps. Hopefully it'll get less shallow later on.

Well, again, I had no idea what to expect. I don't read manga unless I find a show based on manga and am too lazy to wait for season 2 so I go on and read.

Now, animation is splendind, gore is, well fukt up in a positive way.

First episode seemed fast, but gave me overall idea of the plost. I love MC, I love Night Raid, and I always dig chicks with Katana.

I must say I was quite surprised, nice plot twist, by the sadist family.

One thing I disliked. Lack of the emotion, or at least the way it was portrayed by anime. MC finds out his friends are tortured, one dead, one dying, he losses his head, kills the (crazy bitch, lel that dialog scared the shit of me, cause people with such elitist attitude exist and it was faithful representation of serial killer) loli and right after he is bac to his gooffy self. It would have been much more impactful if he fell down on knees (example) being crushed, partly because of his friends, partly because he just killed another human (if that sick girl can be called human)... And there would be much more depth if the laied back Night Raid members were much more serious. Shifting from their gooffiness into serious mode. They are presented as someone who kill monsters in form of humans, so having some compassion would be nice. Then again I can't claim that it all wasn't just a mask till I see how the show progresses :)

Never been introduced to this anime or read its manga, so my opinion is unbiased. This series looks like its going to be great. Lots of action, good characters, and already a plot twist I did not see coming. Looking forward to how the story develops.

i'll probably check out the manga later as more episodes come out.

Haven't read the manga but dayum I like this anime. I might pick the manga up after the anime's over.

I had my suspicions about the true nature of Aria and her family after she picked up Tatsumi and her guards said "Again?". I'm glad he avenged his friends though, and without hesitation too!

OP and ED are forgettable but the OST in general is amazing.

My only gripes with the episode was how fast the pacing felt in the second half and how it went back to being silly less than a minute after Ieyasu died. The latter felt extremely out of place and really strange, it also seemed like Tatsumi got over their deaths really quick seeing how he was comically arguing with Leone to let him go so he could bury them.

Other than those things I really liked the episode.

In ep 2 they'll show how he's been grieving for days, anyways it's better to just not take anything in this series seriously, as the author obviously didn't. The main antagonist is evil santa claus who just sits on his fat ass eating chickenwings all day.

Hahahahaha yeah, it's much more enjoyable if you don't take everything seriously.

This episode was great. Love the ED song.

I usually don't watch anime with this much gore, but I don't really mind the gore, as long as the gore makes sense. It kinda did *cough* blood spewing everywhere a bit from the arm getting cut off of the dragon.

I was expecting a bit more of a fight between Tatsumi and Akame.

A really solid first episode, I really like the medieval setting and premise of assassins in a capital brimming with corruption. I have to say Aria's family secret was a shocker, I was suspicious of her but I thought they were just planning to use or manipulate him. It was brief but sad and eerie to see Tatsumi's friends in that storehouse. I'm glad he didn't white knight the situation and killed Aria himself. It just seemed more fitting than leaving it up to the assassin group since it now shows how he's entered a world that he can't back out of.

The only thing that bothers me about this so far is how some of the comedic moments/cutesy expressions feel completely out of place with the extremely serious tone and gore.

This episode is a great start, indeed. I absolutely love the ost, op and ed. I also admire the story and the animation. The setting revolves around the capital where corruption reigns. So the main characters' mission is to eliminate all the unscrupulous, high officials who's ruling the whole city so that the desperation will end. This show is filled with action and also comedy(like Leone deceiving Tatsumi, etc.), haha!

Pretending to be kind just to lure the countless innocent people and brutally torture them is injustice. Serves the sadist family right when they all died, thanks to Tatsumi and the Night Raid members, namely: Akane, Leone and the others.

RIP to the guards who were forced to do their worthless job, especially to Sayo and Ieyasu, who didn't deserve that kind of torture.

The main casts are all badass.

I can't wait for the next episode!

They should have skipped the OP for the first episode, it kind of ruined the twist at the end of the episode. Though I had already read the manga my friend who I was watching it hadn't and within like 10 minutes he guessed what would happen because of the OP. So the twist wasn't as powerful as it was an the anime because without anything before starting the manga you wouldn't know who the protagonists are.

No way in hell did I predict that the rich family were such animals. I love anime like this and the medieval-like setting is also great. But it fucking blows for MC since his best friends were tortured like that and it seems like MC and Sayo may have been in love.

I really, really enjoyed this show from the first ep.

It was funny, I guess I read some of the manga a while back, cuz as I was watching it I thought it was gonna be brand new show but I already knew and remembered everything that would happen before it did, so I def read the manga.

But anyway, I thought it was awesome. Will definitely stick with it.

Hope they keep the pace going and get to some good stuff!

Seems like a nice good show, a shounen with some blood and depravity for once.

So who's to say me not liking the series as a whole is just me hating? I don't like the fact that people feel the need to bash and name every person who doesn't like a show a troll. If I'm responding to someone about me not liking a show then I'm simply backing up where I feel the show is lacking.

That being said, it's a standard shounen that barely has decent characters all around and doesn't do or have anything special about it aside from having a little gore.

Pretty decent first episode, very faithful to the manga, but that's to be expected of White Fox. I like the voices they chose, though I don't quite recall Akame repeating that one word over and over. It was kind of annoying. The OST was great, though at times unfitting. OP was pretty bad, but that doesn't really matter.

My one complaint is that there was an overall lack of serious atmosphere during the second half. Even when shit went down and you-know-what happened, it seemed to have been brushed off quickly and replaced by some silly scene afterwards. The manga was probably like this too, but it felt jarring in the anime.

Also, the scene where Aria was yelling was handled terribly in my opinion. Way over the top and comical, it felt like a parody rather than a girl going insane.

The part where Tatsumi found his friends was the single most emotional moment of the manga for me - and they ruined it with slapstick -_- I am disapoint. Much disapoint.

And indeed, I've seen scenes where a character starts raving madly that were genuinely disturbing (like I've seen some genuinely disturbing torture scenes, unlike the ones shown this episode), and then Aria comes along and does it as ridiculously as possible. I feel like they simply recycled images from the manga.

Three episodes, if it doesn't get better I'm dropping it. I'm frustrated enough by what the manga is turning into already.
