The two shows that I wish weren't more than 13 episodes...

It's probably safer and if the show does well they can always add on more later.

Nay, I prefer 24 episode shows. You can't usually put everything in 12 episodes. And if show is shitty I don't have to finish all 24 eps of course.

Compared to what? Two seasons ago we had many series with 24 or more episodes, like:

Log Horizon (25)
Yowamushi Pedal (38)
Golden Time (24)
Nagi no Asukara (26)
Hajime no Ippo: Rising (25)
Samurai Flamenco (22)
Tenkai Knights (52)

Its true that 12/13 ep animes dont usually include everything, however i love how they can easily be finished in a day or two. They're perfect if you have a busy lifestyle and still want to watch anime, therefore its a yay ;3

As long as they have an ending that I'm satisfied with, then I honestly don't mind at all.

Though, I'd rather have a series with 13 episodes that has an open-ending, rather than a 24+ episode series.

That's where the manga comes in. I don't mind it, but most 13 eps series are usually rushed and it gets annoying.

I think the ideal length would be infinite, but that means that they would be airing continuously and I don't watch airing shows.

So I guess its good that they are less than 24 in general because then I get to finish more.

Well the fact that most shows are rushed and end on a cliffhanger and are mainly used as promotional material for the manga is annoying.

Well, last season was particularly low because there were so many shows from Fall still airing, but yeah, in general there's way too many. I'd definitely prefer more long-runners, more mainstream anime and less late night stuff that is over when it starts to get good.

My ideal length is 50-200 episodes.
I probably regret this post by now.

I prefer 22~26+ episode series unless its an original project then 11~13 are just fine.

I do like 12~13 episode series more for marathoning purposes, but most of the time 12 episode series barely scrape the surface of the characters and plot. Its irritating if the LNs/manga are untranslated or far behind the Japanese release.

I think they're too short, and should be longer. I see people saying that Black Bullet, a 13 episode show, is rushed. At least we still have some 2-cour shows this season, like Captain Earth and Haikyuu.

You can't really compare that since spring/fall have more shows than summer/winter. You need to compare fall 2013 to fall 2012, fall 2011, etc.

Baccano showed me you can have an excellent well paced story with 13 episodes, so I'm not sure the format is the problem...
5 main aspects I base my ratings on:
1. Did DramaEnthusiast make a thread about it?
2. Is it better than Breaking Bad?
3. Did MellowJello recommend the shit out of it?
4. Has it caused a (very entertaining) shitstorm on MAL?
5. Is it actually good?

Scratch the fifth point, it's not very relevant...

I hate it, 13 episodes is rarely enough to convey a full story without having to greatly lower its scale to make up for its short time allotted to it. 1-cour's have also resulted in horrendous adaptations of good souces such as the infamous dangan ronpa anime.

Now split-cour im perfectly fine with

That's exactly why I asked what OP meant with nowadays. Regarding this past winter season, there are anime still airing with more than 12 episodes. Such as:
Happiness Charge Pretty Cure!
Yo-Kai Watch
Future Card Buddyfight

And the 2012/2013 winter season also had other series, like:
Cardfight!! Vanguard: Link Joker-hen
DokiDoki! Precure
Beast Saga
Chihayafuru 2

Few have the time or interest for long running anime. It's still no excuse to have 13 episodes when you can have a solid 24-26 for most adaptations, I can see some 4koma adaptations getting 13 but most anime should have 20 episodes at the very least.

It makes them easy to watch (I can go through one in a day if I want to) but a lot of times they have bad endings and they never get second seasons as they sold crap. I think it's a better format for slice-of-life anime as 24 episodes of nothing can get repetitive, like Lucky Star did for me.

How is making two 13-episode anime more lazy than one 26 episode anime? In fact, if anything I would think the former requires more effort than the latter does.

Quality over quantity. Besides, most of the 12/13 episode anime series are getting a second season (even a third in some cases) so I'm not complaining.

One of the reasons anime have mostly been shitty these last few years. You can't develop anything in 13 eps in terms of solid story (unless you do a sequel and 99% will not have a sequel).

Well, Baccano is also an incomplete adaption despite being great. Lot of loose ends unresolved.

Because a Japanese TV season is 11-13 episodes long, not just of animation but also for comedy and drama.

Since more animation is being shown on Japanese television they have to conform to Japanese programing cycles.

It's a lot better than no episodes :) I don't mind it for a first season but with a 13 episode series, I'm usually left wanting more. There are some excellent series that can be wrapped up in 13. I'd rather there be fewer fillers and each episode be worthwhile rather than dragging something out to 20-26 episodes with a bunch of random crap. But obviously 26 episodes of epicness is better than 13 episodes of epicness.

If you're not supporting the industry by importing Japanese releases or buying licensed releases in your area, you've got no right to complain about declining budgets and show lengths. But I'll take 13 episodes over the "10-episode fluff/filler sequel" pattern that's popping up these days for shows like Maken-ki!, Date a Live, and Is This a Zombie?.

Though it's not impossible for 1-cour series to be worthwhile, even if they are adaptations. In my experience, VN/eroge adaptations are better bets than manga/LN adaptations for having a reasonably complete story within ~13 episodes. There have been plenty of anime-original TV series of that length as well.

I dont understand why people say anime are commercials for the manga counterparts. Dont animation studios buy publishing rights from the publishers and then animate it themselves?
