| No, I wouldn't. I like animes where the girl takes over the funny dominant roll like Misaki Ayuzawa or Anissina von Karbelnikoff, but muscular appearance wise? No thank you. |

| So I did some Googling onto Mikasa's abs since it's been the talk of this thread, and yeah, that's exactly what I mean by my description. This is basically the perfect example of making a physically powerful woman, while maintaining some sex appeal. For a basis of what to expect, this is what I mean. Would you want to see more characters in the same physical condition as Mikasa? |

| OK....just so people know, I think there has only been 2 official drawings by the mangaka showing Mikasa with abs and NEITHER picture is exactly "good": http://i.imgur.com/BQsTk0o.jpg http://i.imgur.com/ABDhXrM.jpg ^Aside from this....I'm pretty sure we never saw Mikasa's abs in the actual manga story and we DEFINITELY did NOT see it in the anime. | I dont want them to be creating muscular female leads, but give them some definition to the muscles. Especially shounen anime and manga. How the hell you gonna make a female lead so strong physically, but her body appears to be as soft like wet tissue? I know anime is not real and all that other shit people spout, but come on seriously. |

| I don't really mind it, as long as the artist doesn't go overboard with it and make her into freaking Hercules or something. I don't even like most overly muscled male characters, Guts being the first notable exception because there is far more to his character than muscles. Saying that, I guess I wouldn't even have a problem with a female character like that if she has something more to offer than just being muscle bound. That said, there are a few female characters out there who have muscles. She's not huge or anything, but Casca from Berserk is a good example. Apparantly Mikasa from SnK as well. |

| They don't need to be super huge but looking like they can actually wield the weapons they use would be nice. Mikasa is a good example, so is Casca and the Major from Ghost in the Shell (not as much in stand alone complex though). I feel this way even about non-anime female characters though. Skinny waifs as action heros just don't work for me. |

Not exactly phisically appealing but do they always have to be? Id also like to see some battlescars on them. Need more battlescars in anime, especially dynamic ones. Always wondered how they got injured without having scars afterwards, when the smallest cut possible in my face left a noticable scar to me. And this totally this +1 |

| No. Im ok with --and even prefer-- strong female characters, regardless of their attractiveness but, to put it bluntly, muscular women are painful on the eyes. Not saying that I need female characters to be dazzling beauties, but its significantly harder to like something thats hard to look at, as compared to a look thats simply attractive or neither attractive nor unattractive. |

| As for rational thought, most warrior or fighter females in anime look really wimpy and mostly skimpy the way they're drawn, most likely not being able to carry whatever giant weapon they may use Mikasa might be the most muscular looking female I've seen, and she looks like she barely has lean muscle For my own personal opinion, I do not mind at all seeing more muscular female characters (mostly due to the fact Im into that but thats not really relevant right now.) There IS indeed s big difference between big feminine muscle and big masculine muscle, and that really depends on the artist, and I would bet my life that most of any muscular female characters you've seen on the internet disturbs you because either 1.) The artist drew it for comedic reasons and made the female look as masculine as possible, or 2.) You have a serious thing against female muscle and although that may be the most popular opinion, I see no reason why you should hate it. I really do not see any problem with it at all. No one ever said muscles were purely for men to show off therefore muscle on a woman is manly nor makes a guy homosexual for liking it. Anyways, yes, if the role fits, then why not? And then there is this THIS was made purposely to look gross, and I explain this because I see it circulating around this thread as if it's legitimately what a muscular female character should look like It was drawn for the sole purpose of it being comedic, not to be taken seriously http://i42.tinypic.com/2w5qces.jpg Whereas there's this (has more than the usual amount of muscle you are most likely used to) I'm not saying this should be as big as the characters should be, it's an example But see, their faces are still cute, it is just their body that is different. Just more muscular, yet still keeping femininity. http://th01.deviantart.net/fs70/PRE/i/2012/106/1/d/magic_muscle_3_by_pokkuti-d4wg60v.jpg |

Normal ones, yes, but we are talking about warriors, the kind that could rip you in two with their bare hands. That's stupid. You aren't the authority on the female body and not all females shape their body to please males. Moreover I think it looks sexy. I like all types of female body types. I prefer smooth silky skin but you can have a character that has smooth silky skin and muscles. As long as the artist makes the muscle less rigid looking and slightly more curvy it can look attractive. We do need more muscular female leads. Moe characters are awesome and cute but they shouldn't be the only female characters. Being strong willed is already popular as well in many shounen female characters. We need more anime that show strong female physiques for physically strong characters. She Hulk in comics does just fine and she is muscular. She has had more solo titles than any other marvel female character and is the most high profile marvel female character being on most of the big teams and founding teams and leading many others. As long as she is a good character who doesn't just have muscles then it's fine. Someone already mentioned Balsa from Serei no Moribito and she is a great example of a more muscular female main character. |

Many strong women back in the day like Sandwina were considered sexy. This was in the 1920's as well. Female bodybuilders in the late eighties and early 90's were also considered sexy and graced many magazine covers as well as many adolescent boys walls. Recently there has been alot of negative stigma against females with muscle online despite nearly every guy you ask saying they prefer an atheltic looking girl who looks like she at least jogs. It has to do with how women with muscles are presented and the stereotype they have created with parodies and purposefully brutish looking illustrations of women. http://static.comicvine.com/uploads/scale_super/11/117763/3263486-kingsizehulk00201.jpg http://static.comicvine.com/uploads/scale_super/3/31666/3202884-jen+wyatt+1.jpg http://static.comicvine.com/uploads/scale_super/11/117763/2802450-she_hulk__6___page_10.jpg http://40.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_ljp8wqNvSz1qc63ooo1_1280.jpg Also Frank Cho is a comic book artist who is infamous for being great at drawing women. He drew the first and last She Hulk pics presented here. One thing he notes in his artbook on drawing women is that for all women he adds just a hint muscle tone in their legs. It's that muscle that makes women's legs so sexy in the first place. If you draw it appropriately females with muscles can look very appealing. |

| Western cinema is filled with women whose sole role is to be an Action Heroine. So much for equality - we hate shallow male badasses but praise shallow female badasses. Some have the sense not to make them sex dolls (Fury Road), but others turn them into pure eye candy (Black Widow from Avengers). I don't want to these women. I want to see women as people. They can be warrior women (Freezing, for all its flaws, focuses on a variety of warrior women, each with a personality) they need to be more than just 'this girl swings swords! that's cool!" Femininity is underrated. |

They can be warrior women (Freezing, for all its flaws, focuses on a variety of warrior women, each with a personality) they need to be more than just 'this girl swings swords! that's cool!" Femininity is underrated. Two questions: You bring up western cinema, but the west and Japan don't always play by the same rules. Is the issue you're bringing up actually an issue in anime, or is it a problem of some mediums that aren't anime? There are warrior women in anime (pretty much all of Hiroyuki Imaishi's works come to mind), but do they really overpower other female archetypes all that much? And also, while I can understand complaining about shallow characters, is that really something that's unique to Action Heroines? I can think of plenty shallow lolis and shallow tsunderes too. Action heroines don't really seem, to me, to be any shallower than other female characters and there's nothing inherently wrong with them being there so long as they're well-written, which can be said for any character at all. Femininity is nice, but women aren't exclusively feminine no more than men are exclusively masculine. Well, at any rate, I'd like to see muscular women more. I'd like to see diversity in body types more in general and not just for the sake of realism. Adding body types that aren't the typical ones would make characters simply more interesting to look at and open up more character design possibilities. |
