| So, I know theres a lot of people on here that have seen a shit ton of anime. For you people who have seen literally 100s of anime, how many, numerically, are actually really GREAT. Use whatever criteria you want. I'm curious, we all know there are titles brought up on the board again and again - shows that have staying power and a consistent fanbase (most people love them) but there are a zillion shows out there. Ok, maybe not a zillion. Anyway, numbers of anime far and beyond recognized favorites. It goes without saying that I'd like to know why you choose that number as well. thanks! ^^ |
| if a score of 8 is equal to "GREAT", then I've seen 81 great shows out of the 242 I've watched. If 9 is great, then the ratio becomes 36/242 |

| I have a little over 800 on my list and 8 of them are 10s, so one in a hundred? Though basically my 9s are simialr to my 10s, the 10s just have that extra bit of perfectly suiting my tastes to the detail. Most of the 9's I'd recommend to everyone as a pretty goddamn great show, even if you're not a fan of the genre as long as you don't hate it you can't find much to complain about in those shows. Sports shows may be the exception because I'm biased towards enjoying them more than most other genres and it's kind of a niche genre, but stuff like Major and Hajime no Ippo I'd still count because of how good they are. So with the 9s it would be 70 of 812 anime, coming close to 10%. But considering that's only if the anime I deem watchable in the first place, there's at least twice or three times as much crap I'll never take a second look at that never even makes it to the list. Including that it would be something like 2% of all anime. I think it's a fair assumption. |

| ~14... out of 140 completed. Just looking at the top 30 anime on MAL right now, only two of them are great. Cowboy Bebop and Mushishi (haven't seen LOTGH yet). Other really good ones are Mononoke Hime and Gurren Lagann. That's about it for the top 30. The rest are either just good or mediocre. |

| None of them. They are all shit. Besides, what you consider good, others might consider the worst, so there is no such as great. Also, 7 and up are great in my scoring system so i will just say a lot, because I am too lazy to look it up. |

| If we are defining "great anime" as an anime rated 8 or higher: For every unique set of tastes a person may have, I would estimate that there are about 150 genuinely great anime franchises waiting to be discovered (emphasis on the word franchises, otherwise the number would be higher). Generally when I see someone with around 700+ anime seen, they have roughly 100-150 of them rated 8 or above, so that's mainly where my estimate comes from. These anime aren't exactly easy to come by, so if you haven't hit this number keep on hunting! |

| For me great anime are 10's and good 9's. For me that's around 15 anime; or 10% of all anime I've seen. |
| At best 20 favorite material, half of which can be rewatched, around five with infinite rewatchablity, some that have staying power beyond anime (franchise stuff like Gundam). Removing the clutter I would make a positive evaluation of 80-100 titles being well worth the time, which is still better than I can say for other media. These numbers won't unfortunately increase following some linear formula. |
