So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old? I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them? I wonder how long people would put up with this. As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series. |

Just when we talked about how few full-blown yuri anime there are just a while back, here is a full-blown yuri anime!! And from a 4-koma SoL comedy manga too! I have been a big fan since I bought the first volume of the manga back almost a year ago. This is just too good to be true, since I never expect they would take the risk to animate this. I AM OVERJOYED!! |

It is so rare to see an anime where the yuri isn't used for anything other than SoL comedies and those with only minor implications of it. I really hope this one does well too, could mean more yuri works in the future. You wouldn't believe how happy I'd be if Girl Friends ever got an anime adaption as a result of this. ^^ |

A yuri manga gets an anime adaption. That's great news for the yuri fans. I haven't see a yuri anime besides Strawberry Panic, so this is a good chance to watch one. I hope the anime will be good. |

Since I imagine this one will stay largely comedic (but still, canon, oh hell yes), if you want to check out more serious yuri relationships in shows less goofy than StoPani, definitely try Aoi Hana or Sasameki Koto. The downside is that both never got sequels, so you'd have to finish the story in the manga... but both are now done so you wouldn't be left hanging. Thanks for the recommendations. I was looking for some yuri mangas to read, so Imma gonna add those 2 in my list. (along with Girl Friends, even though I have already read the first 3 chapters of the manga but then I forgot about it lol). It's better if they are done. Btw, I just read the first (and only translated chapter) of Sakura Trick. It seems cute. I hope they translate the other chapters soon. |

This discussion has been had many times on the forums already but shoujo-ai = obsolete term (used in Japan to imply pedophilia) and yuri = homosexual love between women, of whatever degree of intimacy. Probably don't need to get into this debate yet again tho. Ohh... My bad then, I need to do some research before talking. Anyway, this sounds as an interesting SoL to me. I'm looking forward it. |

I expect it'll never happen, especially with the manga already over (therefore, less opportunity to increase its sales) but oh we can only hope. Well, true. It's one of only a few long-running (well >30 chapters) serious yuri romance manga that's been fully translated, so it gets a lot of (justified) love. The mangaka is also one of the more prolific/better known yuri mangaka. And it's just, like... really really damn good in general. Sakura Trick is going to be a bit limited by its 4koma format I expect, but shows like K-ON! have shown that being 4koma doesn't mean the characters can't be well-written and the story fleshed out beyond its short 4-panel gags. Fingers crossed that whoever is behind Sakura Trick puts the needed effort into it! Hmm, an serious romance story, by well known mangaka author. Now I seem a little interested to this manga. I have not seen k-on before(which is not my favorite) Hope it will be 12 episodes in this show. |

Still, I like the characters design, may try the manga even though I don't like 4-koma. Well, keep in mind anime romance very very rarely goes beyond that anyway. Very few anime characters have sex, much less on screen. Unless you have a heavily fanservicey show like To Love-Ru (which is hardly a paragon of serious romance), erotic situations involving physical contact between two or more characters, beyond kissing, are raaaaare. so I don't hold it against this if that's all w see. True that, totally forgot about it. I probably let myself think it could have more just because it was yuri. Silly me. |

GoldenBRS said: What's so good about Girlfriends? It is in my ptr list, I curious on how it is so good? The beauty of Girl Friends is in mostly how it's structured. It is a little bit slow to start due to the build-up needed for the characters to begin their development period, but once the romance begins to kick off, it becomes a wonderful romantic experience between the two main heroines. It's because of how well each chapter flows that get you to want to read more, and the story very rarely slows down as there is always something happening to challenge the characters and give them more meaningful development. And it not only focuses on developing just these two, but it also gives a good amount of development to their friends as well, providing an additional quality such as friendship to a romance based series. It's one of the few mangas that has urged me to read an entire 35 chapters within a period of 2 days, and I can't express enough how much I love this manga. The ending wasn't anything great, but it was refreshing and it fit very well at least. Also, sorry if I'm getting too off topic. |

Kitsu-nee said: No sex, but A LOT of kisses. And just by this it is already more "hardcore" than Yuru Yuri because YY would not show any kisses and the bottom line for YY is any coupling is as much in the imagination as real (if you know what I mean), but Sakura Trick is very unambiguous about this. There are indeed manga with yuri sex but those most likely will never get TV anime adaptation. (Think of about it, even ecchi anime like ToLoveRu never shows actual sex) The best it can get would be an OVA.I like charadesign, but since it's a real yuri, does it contain sex and everything? In the 4koma? Or just means something more hardcore than Yuru Yuri? :P |

Funny how some people think Yuri = scrissoring, double headed dildos and...who knows what, seriously, the term Shoujo-Ai, Shounen-ai and even Yaoi aren't used anymore, it's either Yuri or Boy's love, if either has explicit content then you'll see the R-18 label, or you'll know if it does by the magazine it's serialized in. This one isn't a R-18 Yuri. so if you want the porn stuff then look for the R-18 magazines, or Yuri that targets mature audiences. |

Intereo said: Actually this is wrong, or at best very obsolete. First this usage is not the consensus usage even in western fandom - I have seen western fans who think yuri is serious romance but some who think yuri must have sex but the relationship may or may not be serious. The two definitions are not the same. This is one example of western adoption of a foreign term and then got confused itself. jmal said: Yuri does not need to mean sex, no. According to MAL, it does. If this is "soft" then it must be called Shoujo Ai. In fact, Shoujo Ai is the SAME as Yuri, and Shoujo Ai, meaning yuri, has fallen out of use in Japan. There Shoujo Ai now almost always means Pedophilia towards little girl. I have already suggested to the DB mods here to clear out the Shoujo Ai tag because I think it is both confusing and outdated. We should just keep to the term "yuri", no matter whether there is sex or if it is serious or playful. |

So after 4 years of no yuri romance anime(aside from 2 seasons of yuru yuri, which has no romance). Thats some very good news, I hope we get some more yuri anime if this sells well. You know, like adapting sisterism or sisterism and after that more sisterism(I've already given up hope on Strike witches : suomus misfits, girlfriends and Gokujou Drops getting adapted) |

They both have a strong yuri relationship on adulthood. Even when they little they are alike. Not so sure about Sakurako older sister. But at the end, the point is, for most yuri fans (like me) we do not really care so much as to whether it is actual/real/true/canon yuri (however you call it) as long as the anime/manga presents enough of the subtext to feed our imagination. So anime that do not go as far as Yuru Yuri in presenting yuri themes, from Madoka and Nanoha (where yuri subtext is stronger) to PreCure and Love Live (weaker), are still treated by us as "yuri anime" in the sense that we consider them as fertile ground for our yuri imagination :-) |

jmal said: Sure. I think the point of my post is mainly to explain to someone who is not a yuri fan why we can see yuri in so many anime and call this or that anime "yuri anime" while they (the non yuri fans) would think there is limited yuri in even Yuru Yuri, an anime which I think is as yuri as it can get without crossing the line to the canon/true/actual yuri territory.I would say that while yuri fans very much enjoy non-canonical or subtext yuri, many of us do still care very much about seeing serious, canonical yuri as well. I'm sure you'd agree too. |
