I've only tried it once, but I didn't think it was that good.
I'm planning on trying it somewhere else, though. I WANT to like it, lol!

Sushi is definitely my favorite.

And you call it flavorless? What sushi have you eaten 0,o

.....and people think that just because it comes from Japan, and we like anime its bad?

Next time you have a pizza, remember that.

Old Japan was oppressive and horrid. Not that the political structure of current Japan doesn't leave something to be desired either.

Which is why I prefer the more romanticized prettied up versions of Japan's ancient past. Just like I do my own European history(yes I'm an American, even even our recent old history is pretty boring, interesting was stuff like the Viking ages, not those boring pilgrims). Europe > America. At least as far the interest of history is concerned. Imho.

Interest in history of Japan for me is concerned with the more mystical and the good elements of old Japan. I made a Shinto group after all.

And "obsessive" is a very subjective word, and most people use it in the case of Japan to mean "more interests for Japan than I have myself", such as food.

It's a matter of having tastes. If you have a cultural interest. It's a taste. It's a fucking goddamn taste. And staring and stuff about Japanese nationalism all day and experiencing some less than desirable aspects of Japan constantly, may not be enough to rewrite that taste. Just as much as Japan's problems may not be enough to make you stop from liking anime.

But apparently, people don't follow this logic. And a cultural interest it's as a subjective realm treated objectively. Just like some music is supposed to be superior to other music. Apparently we think things that have no objective truth have to be treated objectively.

Taste. Taste. It's not a grass is always greener thing. You're pinning people down to where they live. It's like liking the color green or the color blue more. And pinning down culture taste like that down on people from where they are born, and demeaning those who take interest in other cultures as having a "grass is greener" complex, or will need to "wake up and smell the whatever", is demeaning, rude, and nationalist.

I'm not inferring that having a cultural interest is naiive or whatever, I'm inferring that the person who posted about Japan's history didn't actually know much about Japanese history, and if he did, probably wouldn't find it all that nice. It's like if you said Europe was historically a safe haven for science, art, and reason, but you only actually knew about the renaissance.

And I don't see why that would be demeaning, rude, or nationalistic. The Japan that many anime fans love simply does not exist. How can one claim to know about or love a culture if they can't form an accurate depiction of it, including its shortcomings and troubles? As for nationalistic, that's hilarious. I'm inferring that Japan is a real place with real people and real struggles, it is not anime world and it is not the far-off realm of eternal happiness. It is different from other cultures, it is not better than other cultures as many anime fans imagine. Not suggesting my country is any better than Japan. If you want nationalism, one of the best countries to look to, even today, is Japan, though... and that is the fault of their culture and history, although it's changing for the better.

But then again, you're telling me it's a matter of taste. I was claiming that living in Japan is a case of the grass is greener. I don't know that you can reprimand me for that and claim I'm being demeaning if you've never lived in Japan.

I freaking love sushi. Went to a sushi restaurant in Lafayette, UNGH GOD DELICIOUS. It's called BeaOne, and if you're ever around, for the love of God try the BeaOne Roll, you will die of TEH NOM~

I hate wasabi with a passion. Apparently the face I made when I tried a bit of it at another Japanese restaurant was legendary and made of lulz. >.<

I tried sushi long time before I started watching any anime and I think it's good. I consider it neither delicious nor disgusting and I eat it from time to time.
But I think it's silly to force yourself to eat it just because it Japanese :)

Yeah dam, $5 gets me 18 pieces of my favorite kinds of sushi at Sushi T's (my favorite sushi bar).

For that I could get probably 1 artery clogging burger and a small fry. Eww. D:

Little more expensive for me, that whole Boston thing. for 6 peices its around 9.95....but worth every penny. Im glad I have a good job.

Though, I do have to say the best sushi i have ever had, and my local place that Im at at least twice a week is a Tai resteraunt. I love their Golden Triangles (fried tofu)

i am fine with the ones with fish eggs, cooked stuff, vege, fake crab meat and shrimp.

but the ones with raw tuna, and salmon and what not is not really my kind of food. I perfer my food cooked =/ but every once in a while it's fine as long as I have enough ginger and wasab to cover up the raw taste.

Really? I personally get nauseous eating fried tofu. My stomach acts up just thinking about the last time I ate Inarizushi. Maybe it was poor quality, but that slightly sweet taste combined with the oily fried tofu was absolutely disgusting.

*sigh* Ah too much of a headache for me to respond to right now. And it's all something I've been though a thousand times before.

Maybe later.

In any case, through my real experience of living in Japan. And noticing something they seemed to do, one of things I found grosser or harder to get used to about Japanese food, was that they seemed to put Mayo on EVERYTHING. I asked the family I was staying with what they used mustard on, and they said "only hot dogs". So it would appear according to the family I stayed with in Japan, Japanese people only eat mustard on hot dogs. So prepare of a LOT of mayonnaise on you foods in Japan should you ever go there.

Sushi would taste horrible with Mayo instead of wasabi. I haven't tried it, but I know they do sometimes, and I just shudder the thought of eating it that way.

Old avatar and sig retired for now.

Sushi and even Sashimi are delicious to me! Wasabi and soy sauce combined with those... now that's mouth-watering for sure.

Quite frankly they're great as snacks, but couldn't really satisfy me as a full course meal.

I don't really understand why you people wouldn't like sushi, but maybe it's because I'm Asian... but then again I love all types of food, including Hmong Melon Salad smothered in that spicy sauce AND Vietnamese Pho... oh my gosh I'm hungry now.

I thought sushi would be flavorless because of all the white rice but actually the rice is kinda sweet and really good and full of flavor. Also I find that the avacado adds a good flavor and has a nice texture ^^

Depending on the type of sushi, the idea may be close to eatting toast with butter or margarine when butter is unavailable. Personally, I am fine with both, since I rarely eat toast to begin with. (^_^)
