Mm, the OP song is okay I guess.

Watching Arata and Kotoha together was kinda funny. Oh kinda sad they got captured.

Well at least the guy still has some guts to speak out.

Does Kotoha honestly think it's the Arata she knows? I'm a little confused if she's in denial of Hinohara or she truly believes its Arata but thinks something is wrong with him..

Kotoha's necklace was the link to Arata. Hinohara talks to Arata and finds out he didn't kill the princess. Great bond between them : ) Now Hinohara is put on trial. Go Hinohara!!!! You tell'em. Damn Kannagi > : 0 Kotaha sneeks onboard to bring Hayagami and they meet princess. : 0 She tells him that he is the new Shinsho.

This episode was quite faithful to the manga but they're certainly rushing things. I'm looking forward to the Gatoya part though.

Yeah, the masses are always sheep so gullible to swallow any bs fed to them. I mean how can that guy try to kill the princess with 12 of you around and escape.
Poor Arata getting such a mess, but you better man up now or freaking die!
I wish they show a little bit about the life of the other one, I mean even though it is peaceful he has to fit in.

If only we see them as they are then why did the people in town see long haired Arata "naked" and if Hinohara is supposed to look like Arata, wouldn't it appear to Kotoha that he wasn't wearing a shirt? (since she had to unbutton his shirt to check for the necklace)

It's supposed to be the latter. The anime's script isn't conveying that well enough, I guess. Either that, or the extra dialogue they added in to the beach scene made it confusing. Hinohara's second attempt at convincing Kotoha that he's not the Arata she thinks he is, as well as her playing along with it in a way that suggests disbelief, was not in the original dialogue.

Their bodies, but not their clothes are affected. Early on in the original manga, people would make comments about the strange clothes that Hinohara was wearing.

As for the episode itself, pretty good. Didn't expect to see certain people yet, though... I suppose they are planning on restructuring the plot a little so it could fit in one cour that stands well enough on its own...

As for Hinohara... well, I think I'll have to retract my earlier statement that the cutting scenes was to the shows benefit. Cutting out the humor certainly was, but to not show the extent of the bullying and ostracization that the original introduction provided obscures his justification for his severe trust issues. Without it, Hinohara's classical antiheroic tendencies and complaints go from mildly annoying but understandable to simply unbearable. I really hope they get back into it in the upcoming arc, because that's a good place, if any, for the anime to do so.

I like the premise and they've done a good job here. The OP was okay, it could have been better.

I like Arata and Arata Hinohara, but I think the girl's a bit of a ditz. How long is it going to take her to realize that that Arata isn't the original one?

The sham trial was interesting but I do like the fact that the princess has named Arata as her new warrior and has thus unofficially disowned the other 12. I am also curious about the guy who bullies Arata and what his story is and why he's in the op and ed so much. Now that Arata has been exiled, I wonder how they're going to escape and somehow bring down the 12 evil bishies and save the princess? (That REALLY sounded like some sort of 80s fairy tale...)

So what adventures will there be for Arata and company? I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Actually, yes, someone should bring that up!
How the heck could Arata harm the princess since he was in a confining awkward dress surrounded by the country's elite warriors? Are you telling me not ONE of you could protect her against a cross-dressing teenager?!

I know right...I guess everyone trusts the 12 warriors very much since they are supposed to be very close to the princess. The people are just too biased to see the truth.

I never really got into the manga, but hopefully the anime will make me want to pick up the manga again.

Well it's pretty well explained in the show why this situation is plausible for her to believe that its the Arata she knows. The forest is known to devour people's memories, that and the fact that Arata still looks like the very same Arata she knows, its' not rocket science to understand why she still believes its the same Arata.

Yeah I diddnt understand either, also I don't like the fact that Arata(short hair) is taking over the other guys life and is apparently more worthy than the better one. Edit- it seems someone answered this above, I diddnt see it before. I guess the anime couldn't fit all the content from the novel. Still this should have been made clear.

Yeah sorry but the long haired one is way better. He dosnt have trust issues and he has a brighter personality. Then this new guy comes and takes his "girl" who might think he's the real one. And if they aren't going to show us the other Arata's situation in the normal world why bother having him it could have just been like "hey this guy came out of nowhere and he's the chosen one."

They might have a reason but so far I'm not seeing it. That said I don't dislike it just don't agree with some of the events.

3/5

And why is short hair Arata shunned, did I miss something. It seems like they were hinting something with the track team and that other kid knowing him. Also someone else asked this but why is the kid from the track team in so much of the ed.

So everyone around two Aratas can only see their own Arata. Wow, the pendant can let each Arata see each other.

But the crowd in Hinohara's world clearly thought that he (Arata) was an idol filming something. The indication we've got is that Hinohara is more an average highschooler in looks and body tone than the outdoorsy, buff, long-haired, idol-look-alike Arata. I suspect the explanation has to be that their clothes and hairstyles made the transition, but the base genetics, bone, and facial structure are identical so everyone in their new worlds just assumes that they've got a new costume/wardrobe and a new hairstyle.

The other Arata is involved with the plot, but honestly, I don't see the events pertaining to him happening in this adaptation if this anime is just going to remain one cour. That is, unless they rearrange events and character introductions like they did with a few characters.

The reason why Hinohara's ostracized was originally established in his introductory chapter in the manga, but was cut because they presumably wanted to end the first episode with Arata's Hayagami awakening. Since I have low expectations of this anime touching on it, I'll explain briefly (though I still spoiler tag it, despite technically being past this point):

As for why Kadowaki is featured prominently in the Ending sequence... you technically aren't supposed to know at this point. However, it should be pretty easy to figure out...

So I like Arata better but I am more interested in Hinohara's side of things. xD; Ah well, I suppose that means at least both paths are interesting, looking forward to seeing more of Kannagi. One of my favorites, although I am just reading the manga as it comes out in the states so I'm quite a bit behind.

Hinohara is athletic, so his build can't be that average.

But anyway, that does sound interesting, and I certainly would've been impressed if Yuu Watase had thought that far in the original. However, the manga makes it pretty clear that their hairstyles are affected by the... let's call it an illusion... of the forest in a manga chapter that's covered by this episode.

The manga has like 205 chapters published in Japan but still hasn't finished (it's published weekly in the same magazine as Magi). So it's not strange that the start is a bit slow, although I'm not sure how the anime is going to fit the plot in only 13 episodes.

My bad, a typo. Yes, it's 204.

The stores which sell the DVDs list 6 volumes which means 12-13 episodes. Even if it has more episodes I don't think we'll see Kugura's arc or Yataka's one. Mikusa probably won't even appear since there hasn't been a seiyuu announcement nor design.

Don't know why but somehow I have NTR in mind when I watched this episode...
So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

Hmm, I just started to read the manga and I can automatically see where the two are divided. However, I think I actually prefer the anime so far. They have skipped a lot of antics and backstory, but I think it helps with the pacing of the much shorter show.

And it's just my preference but I often end up liking Watase's anime adaptations more than I do her mangas (at least with the really long running ones).

I enjoyed Fushigi Yugi, Ceres, and I'm enjoying Arata for what it is. I like Watase's shorter running manga series such as Alice 19th and Absolute Boyfriend, but loooong ones like Fushigi Yugi just seem to drag along (even the anime had a bit of that).
