Sometimes I can relate myself to the Anime i'm watching. For example
Clannad : Okazaki faced all his problem with a strong heart, so what would i do with my problem that i have currently?
Welcome to NHK! : Seems bad to be a hikikomori and having a suicidal spirit. I've been locking myself in my room for quite a number of days now. Am i becoming one?
Kimi to Boku 2 : Certainly it's going to be fun if i have best friends that would hang out with me everytime i finished school. Then maybe i would have the encouragement to get out of my room.
To be honest, I'm more like envious to the MC of the anime i've been watching. How thing has been working out for them. I'm happy for them to have the strength to overcome their problem and thought of stuff to how i can deal with my problem. But i guess, I just use Anime to run away from life. How bout you guys?
(BTW i'm locking myself in my room coz it's a study week so there's no school and stuff. I'm supposed to self-study to prepare for finals)

It's a medium for entertainment.

Offering what most media is capable of: escapism, self-reflection, humor, emotional rollercoasters, disgust, knowledge, keeping me busy/time waster, and an excuse to meet new people.

There's probably more to it, but that's all I can think of at the moment.

If watching anime helps you formulate how to deal with issues in your life, then that's wonderful. I don't really read into anime much beyond the main plot. If there's some sort of in2deep symbolism or stuff like that, chances are I'll miss it completely.

agreed. - not to mention i enjoy it over manga cause theres music and color and emotion in the voice; making the anime more enjoyable and realistic :D

would you go so far for just entertainment? To discuss, review, and rate, love, hate and for me, relate.
or do you have some kind of devotion for anime?

Mostly entertainment/cure for boredom, but I have noticed other things.

After watching a few animes, my creative writing has gotten a lot more creative, and I've gotten a little more outgoing for some reason or another.

What you just described is absolutely what goes on with any form of entertainment, such as television, movies, videogames, or books. With each there are communities which discuss, rate and can relate to. Now obviously for some people the feelings go beyond just being entertained, but I guess what I'm just trying to state is that all forms of entertainment have those points you brought up. I'd say it's just a question of what the person prefers to be entertained by. For a lot of the people here, this may be their favorite form.

I don't read that many books nor watch that many TV.

So Anime is my source of stories.

That's probably the case. As for me, it's not so much as my favorite as just how I was grew up with. Started with cartoons as well but as I got older most cartoons was still aimed for kids below 12 while anime had a wider demographic. Getting access was easy since we were in the new generation with Internet access so it was really just a matter of availability than one preference over another. Eventually, it's easy for people to call it the favorite since we don't really have anything else to compare it to.

I still wouldn't call it my favourite around that time since I liked reading books, watched movies, played games, and was watching TV shows as well.

For me, it's not just entertainment.
Maybe also some people too, I got attached to Anime. I adore it and watch it to get a good feeling. It's kinda like drinking, watching anime makes me happy, it makes me forget all my problem by just diving into another world of fantasy.

@.@~ Yeah so the next question that i am wondering to ask is...
What would you do if anime never exist?

Secret hobby for me. Not many of my friends know that I love watching anime because most of them don't watch anime.
I watch anime for relaxation and entertainment.

You should probably edit your opening post. Rarely would people read additional questions down the thread. But it's a generic question that have been asked before. The consensus would just be another medium for entertainment. Like the closest ones - manga or video games.

It's entertainment first for me. I don't really think anime over unless the anime I'm watching is trying to get me to think.

As for the second question: if anime never existed, I'd probably go into hardcore gaming or art as hobbies.

As Tachii and others have said, it can serve almost any purpose, like most other forms of entertainment.

One thing I'd emphasis for myself though, is the importance of works with a clear positive message. Works of art (whether it be anime, fiction novels, music, etc.) that aim to make people feel happy, grateful, positively inspired, etc. hold a special place in my heart.

For the most part entertainment, to a lesser degree escapism. Some rarities however can have meaningful impact however that is not why I watch it.

Anime is something that meant a lot to me as a fan of stories. It has plots both relaxing, predictable and lighthearted,, yet there are also heavy, dark and meaningless stories. I love how it's not afraid to give a clear message, develop it's characters in both negative and positive ways, and actually have an ending in sight (hello 5+ seasons of any TV show, I'm talking about you) and even a downer ending sometimes! Anyway, anime has more liberty, both visually and story wise then any other media, mostly because it realizes just because something is drawn and/or CG, it does not mean it needs to be for children, and even if it's meant for older audiences, that it does not mean it does not need to carry a message.

Entertainment. I stopped watching TV several years ago and i'm starting to not play video games as much any more as well. I still download shows that I like (Dexter, Breaking Bad, Hell on Wheels, Sons of Anarchy, etc.) but I don't actually watch tv. I also work as a shift supervisor at a UPS hub on midnight, so my schedule doesn't really match up with a lot of my friends', which gives me tons of time alone. Thus, I pretty much just browse forums and watch anime all week, unless it's a Saturday and I have the money to go hang out with friends some where.

If anime was non-existant I would probably just read more.
