I had recently gotten a friend interested in anime to a point where she now goes onto the net herself to download series(opposed to having borrowed my dvd's) and she had pointed this out to me in an earlier conversation. She had been joining a few chat forums in regards to anime(not sure if she's in MAL) and had come to the conclusion that anime followers who log in are the worst type as they try to flame you at every possible moment when talking about a particular series/discussion. I wanted to oppose what she said, but now that I look back to most of the shit I use to post few years back on here, I can see where she's coming from(resident troll to a few anime/manga sites).

So topic is, do you think anime/manga communities have the worst followers?

I mean, MAL is tenfold worse than the music forum I post on, but I can see the videogame community being a lot worse. The comments I read on IGN and other sites sometimes, man, lol. I can't speak to this, but I imagine fitness communities would be pretty brutal as well, unless it's dedicated to running/biking/long distance sports that annoying people tend to avoid.

Pretty much. The older the average age, the better the community.

No good communities exist. Unless everyone's dumping porn which in that case everyone is willing to contribute constructively.
As a child, I was told that society is a melting pot of talents; knowledge and experience combined to form important alloys that will contribute to mankind. When I got to highschool, however, I thought that it's more like a river in which the water represents our peers while we ourselves are the stones in the river. Constant erosion by mindless majority sheeping has made us lose our unique edge. After I hit the age of 18, I realized that I've been wrong all along. Society is no melting pot. Society is no river. Society is a person, a very skilled rapist, and he has fucked us all.

I won't say anime forums have the worst communities mostly due to my ignorance. It's not that bad.
All I can do is make guesses about other communities.
My Devianart

Oh & Space Brothers is still the best anime ever,in my opinion.Even when competing with Attack on Titan.

I'm basing my theory on two communities. I assume MAL's average age is around 18-19, while I assume the other's is around 21-23. One is better than the other, therefore theory proved. Statistics, who needs them?

I used to post on somewhere called rsc many years ago
although basically all the runescapers were ~15 the community was pretty chill and there wasn't any trolling (cause that wasn't in fashion) or stuff like that.
much better than here for intelligent discussion too-talk about the civil war, revolts, stuff like that was pretty fun
over here most people make assumptions w/o sources and there are a lot of elitists

RS changed. Now it's just a bunch of 12 year olds complaining about their bots not working.
The good/mature players moved on.

My point is that the bell curve starts going down so that the quality of the community doesn't become some kind of incredibly amazing paradise when the average age is 90.

You know what, I think it may be a bell curve. I think the peak age is probably mid-teens. The only other forum I visited with a similar to age to what most anime forum members would be was a forum for high school/A-level students, TSR.

It was awful, I think a lot "young adults" just get to an age where they think no one knows more than them, it's about 16-17 y/o's, imo. lol.

MAL is definitely a lot better than video game communities. Well the only exception being maybe the smogon community (Pokemon fans might know this). Anyways, most video games forums are filled with trolls and flamers ready to harp on every single thing you post. I find it infuriating to be on them, so I stick to lurking on those forums.
