As in for example, as you watch it you actually feel that you are, in fact listening in on every conversation. That in fact everything is occuring right in your face. Every glorious moment, every sad event. You learn to love the characters and treat them as if you actually met them. The line between here and there is slowly vanishing as you indulge yourself into episode after episode...

Yet when you end it, it quite hurts as your part in that life has ended... unless a sequel gets released. Then you can rejoice once again as if you've been reincarnated...

All this... just because of curiosity :P

oyea, if you do go browsing old topics, unless you really find it really, really interesting, don't go reviving it, but otherwise, welcome to MAL!

as for this topic, i sometimes feel that its a developing trait, as this last year, i've been gradually becoming more and more involved when watching anime, feeling the same pains and happiness(es?) that the characters do

I know the exact feeling you're talking about. When I finished reading The Malloreon (a fantasy series by David Eddings), I felt as though I was bidding a final farewell to old friends as I flipped the back cover. I felt as though I had suffered the same trials they did, with them. Yeah. I know the feeling very well.

Not really. Merging would be mutual. The story (series, book, whatever) isn't impacted by you in the slightest. Your mental conditions are purely on your end, so it's not mutual.

does talking to your computer well watching an anime count as merging with it?

and i know what it feel's like when a series finishes and there's that empty feeling someplace in your heart just waiting to be filled with your utmost desires for a second season

no... I never felt any emotional or physical attachment to an anime.

I thought I was into Code Geass for a while, but I'm not even sure anymore, since I'm not exactly impatiently 'anticipating the next episode' any more.

I think that when an anime gets too long (too many eps) any emotions you feel towards it (whether it's anticipation, attachment...etc) gradually fades, so it's easiest for me to be attached to anime series ranging from about 10 eps to 26 eps.

I feel the same way. Naruto used to be one of my favorite animes, but it was just too long!...

this has happened to me with a few slice of life series-Lucky Star, Mahoraba, and especially Sketchbook (which i went into a bit of a depression for a few days after finishing), especially given their character-driven nature, you get to used to the characters being there, it leaves a feeling of emptiness once the series is over

Oh good I'm not the only one..I get way to involved in my anime/manga than is healthy xD. If I'm really hooked on a certain anime/manga I can't concentrate on anything else. Scribbling drawings on my tests, daydreaming in class, totally spacing out when people are talking to me... yeah I get it baad.

I really get in to the anime, maybe not as deep as some but I get into it, sometimes even though I know its fake but I feel something in my stomach when something goes wrong withen the anime or when a character is in danger.

How much you should expect a response and soon depends entirely on how active and populated a forum is. This is a fairly new forum, though active for how new it is.

Anyway, Ah the magic of anime. I don't get that feeling with American animation.:/

I adapted alot of the facial expressions from toons and anime. some people can easily see how I feel because of it =P.

for example whenever I'm serious I drop my head slightly forward to make my frown look bigger. XD

or when I'm thinking of somthing and I finaly understand it. i'd tap my fist in my open palm.

it just became a habit. I gues =P

Haibane Renmei just sucked me in, Rakka is such an amazing lead character, so easy to empathise and associate with..

I was also REALLY heavily into Death Note until a certain late series event (which I had spoilered for me but was still a real shock to watch...)

You know what's funny, is that people buy anime all the time.
And people buy sex toys all the time.

So why not anime sex toys?
I don't own any, in fact it's been years since I even bought figurines of any kind, but it just seems like an extension of hentai to me.

Those blow up dolls are kind of meh. Too plasticy. Now those pillowcases or whatever, those are pretty nifty looking. I like hugging pillows, they're nice. I remember when I was younger, like back when I was thirteen, I would hug my pillow at night sideways and pretend it was someone I was romantically in love with.

As for figures, you can't really do anything with them but to admire their 3D qualities wherever you place them in your room, which makes them almost feel a little more real for a moment when you look at them, if even only a little. Because I mean, who wants to cuddle plastic? But all the decent ones, that you'd actually want to put on display and enjoy, are very expensive. And the cheap ones are even expensive as well. For the money I really just rather have something that's more of a doll, like a dolfie. A really good representation of an anime character in doll form.

Japan and Korea have been creating loads of these doll things lately and I see myself starting to wanting to become a dollfag. They don't look like the cruddy doll things I saw as a little kid, they look like anime characters. I've always wanted this little perfect doll form of Souseiseki for myself, like a dolfie but more accurate. And hold her and carry her around my house like a kid with a security blanket or teddy bear.

It may be there cold and lifeless, but that's the closest I could ever get to a real anime character. And that show even sets it up perfect. I would be just like a person out of Rozen Madien, a cartaker for Souseiseki, waiting for her Rozen Mystica to return. And maybe when we're close to a doll some of our spirit is given and shared as well just by being close to them.
That's what I was told in Ghost in the Shell. So in a way, Souseiseki wouldn't be dead, just waiting for her Rozen Mystica to be returned.;_;

So ronery.;_;

Pretty much.

Whether or not I feel sad that the show is over usually depends on the characters.

well if you cant tell the difference between anime and reality your not well lol

but yes i can connect some, i sometimes try and think the way a character would think and predict their words and try and get emotionally involved in the stories, i mean why not just because its animation doesnt mean you have to remain detached from it, i mean live action stuff is just actors not real things happening, it simulates emotions that are possible

and wow why am i bothering saying all this, it doesnt matter at all XD
