On a scale of 1/10 how brutal would you consider these ultra- contreversial films?

Men Behind the Sun is pretty much the most shocking of those you mentioned.
It's a 9 for me.
A Serbian Film was pretty heavy stuff around 8.5 I think.
Cannibal Holocaust was pretty disappointing for me: 6.
Salò was interesting at some parts but overall only a 7.

The other 2 I haven't seen but on the topic:
What do you think about Aftermath and August Underground?

Edit: Forgot Murder Set Pieces.

1. I haven't seen this one. Don't really plan to either, lol.
2. I really need to watch this one some day.
3. 4/10 - Its shock value is kind of overrated IMO. Some parts are horrifying, but it didn't bother me for the most part. Maybe I'm just desensitized.
4. 5/10 - Disgusting, but kind of comical in a way. It's difficult to explain. Can be hard to stomach at first, but you'll be less disturbed by it the more you think about it.
5. 7/10 - Very tough to watch, especially when you know that it's a true story for the most part.
6. 8/10 - Absolutely the sickest film I've ever seen in full, and the book is even worse. Only gave it an 8 because I've read about and seen clips from movies that are far worse, and those probably don't even compare to the worst shit out there.

What movies are considered worse? In men behind the sun a guy has his innards compressed out his anus? In salo people are forced to eat poop and a guy has his rod burnt with a lighter. In a serbian film a guy is seen raping a newborn? What movies have you heard of that sound worse?

Also I watched the Legend of the overfiend censored movie and it was awesome!

I once downloaded a batch with the "10 most shocking movies".
The sickest one of them (and what I'd give a 10) is August Underground Mordum.
That's really beyond sick and perverted so....I suggest you watch it. ;p

Off the top of my head, I'd say that the August Underground trilogy and Philosophy of a Knife appear to be more horrifying. There are a lot more, but I can't think of the names right now (it's really late and I'm tired). If you don't want to factor conjecture and future-proofing into my list, just bump each score up by 2. ;)

I also consider Flower of Flesh and Blood pretty gruesome.
But the overall horrifying scenes are not that much worse than the rape scenes in A Serbian Film.

Brutal?

I think you choose the wrong term.

How about, would you willingly waste perfectly good daylight on utterly worthless oafal that has no redeeming value whatsoever? It makes the response time easier.

No I wouldn't.

Just because some waste of flesh has a camera and is willing to waste film in it doesn't mean anything he creates will be worth my time.
While not technically anime, currently I am a big fan of Hatsune Miku.
At least I can go see her in concert.

Either you like those kind of movies or you don't.
There are enough movies or animes that fit to your description.

He asked those who've seen those movies for their ratings, not their opinion on how this is a waste of time.
It's still an undeniably good input compared to the trolls of the last page, I'm glad I didn't reply to them...

only saw cannibal holocaust, men behind the sun, and guinea pig flower of flesh and blood. loved cannibal holocaust and i liked men behind the sun. flesh and blood, while not bad, it felt like it took it's time fairly well, in other words it was a bit dull.

Cannibal Holocaust was utter bs. I saw it when I was in highschool and I felt cheated at the end of the movie. My expectations were really high since the movie is seen as a cult classic in its genre but I found it to be completely boring and uninteresting. Guinea Pig was also crap... Shock movies are really not shocking anymore. A Serbian Film and Salo were good though. Salo was especially good from a cinematic point of view.

If you want a good "brutal" movie I recommend Philosophy of a Knife. It's very disturbing and inspired by true events.

However I don't think that these movies are controversial, at least not anymore. This genre now has a specific genre that takes the movies for what they are. The general public does not even know about this stuff and when they do, it;s because some popular director or actor is involved (see Lars Von Trier's Antichrist). I generally find these movies fun to look at, but never disturbing. Disturbing is reading 1984 or seeing A Clockwork Orange.

Out of those I have watched Cannibal Holocaust, Salo and the Men Behind the Sun.

From those three, Cannibal Holocaust is easily the most brutal because it included live animal slaughters. To say they were just killing them, it's an understatement; they were slaughtering them and made sure to torture them while they were up to it. This was just vile and sick, and in no way would I consider it entertainment.

Salo is based off De Sade's 120 Days of Sodom and when you compare it to the original work, it's pretty tame actually. Curiosity killed the cat and that's a statement oftenly true for me. I read the book out of curiosity, just to see how extreme can it be. Quit halfway through. Hmm, maybe even less than that. It's too much. The movie though is passable for an art movie. There are better art movies out there.

Finally, the Men Behind the Sun would be the most shocking if Cannibal Holocaust would not include the animal killings. What saves the Men Behind the Sun from gaining the spotlight, is that all the violence and torture is fake. But other than that, it can get very extreme and morbid in describing the events that occured during these unfortunate times.

But I don't consider them to be good movies, anyway.

If I want brutality or something disturbing, I'd go for Takashi Miike's, Shinya Tsukamoto's and Alejandro Jodorowsky's films. Even Gaspar Noe would do. They may not be as shocking as the original list's films but at least, they maintain some level of brutality and they still remain entertaining.

And has anyone seen a recent Korean film called "I saw the Devil"? That was quite brutal, quite entertaining and a great movie all around.
Signature? I ain't got no signature! I don't need no signature! I don't have to show you any stinkin' signature!

I digress. These films, while sick as fuck, are an interesting tribute to human nature, and for that alone, they deserve consideration.

And LOL about the animal part. I'm not saying I endorse animal abuse in any way, shape or form, but I know plenty of people who would digress with you. Please refer to 4chan.

Also everyone says August underground is more boring than horrifying. They said the same about Philosophy of a knife.
