Wow, Killua is becoming "jealous" of Gon?

not yet....you will find out later.

gon's abilities are not in his physical strength or anything else but his ability to sway others into following him or to take a different path than they might have taken otherwise. in the end he really did win, if not a physical battle but a psychological one. Netero of course knew what he was doing when he paired them, and when he made the bracket reversed.

some of them want to fight each other, but not off the bat. so if they want to have their all out fight, they cant kill their first opponent.

sadly though....

As someone who has read the manga and seen the original, I have highly enjoyed this remake. I don't like to just dismiss the old version because it was so classic but the remake has done a very good job so far of following the manga more (except for a few instances, looking at you episodes 1 and 6). Anyways, I thought this episode was pretty good. The fight started out as kind of a let down because every time Hanzo hit Gon it felt like it did a cut away to another character while using sound effects. The original did this to but I felt it wasn't as noticable as the remake due to the way Madhouse animates their action sequences. After that there were some awsome usages of blood, like it being stained on the floor and the way it dripped down Gon's face. Gon also looked like he had actually gotten the crap kicked out of him in this version. Overall it wasn't anything spectacular but it covered all of the points that stood out in the manga and the original. The point got across as to how stubborn Gon is, Gon's arm being broke still stood out as well as his response to Hanzo's threat to cut his legs off. So on all of those points everything was fine. It seems that this is going to follow the manga more for the next episode of showing all of the fights through flash backs, where as the original showed the whole fight between Kurapika and Hisoka. Overall it was a decent episode.

Great episode. Somehow, the fast pace of this remake makes the fights a bit less enjoyable, since they really can't hold the tension like they did in the original anime, but that's just your typical shounen. Good to see they're somehow giving it another focus.

The way they made the cuts to another character everytime Hanzo hit Gon was a bit off, but hopefully they can change that in the BDs.

Anyway, 8.5/10. The PotC BGM was a bit more bearable this week. And next week Killua vs. Gittarackur a.k.a

Looking forward to it

Great episode... I wonder how many kids his age would even ATTEMPT enduring all that pain... most likely 0.1% or less. o.o

People say the OST sucks, but maybe they're just comparing it to the original... honestly, OSTs don't really affect me at all unless they're obviously terrible or insanely good(which I think the ED is). I don't mind any of the BGM in here, it's fine for me.

Whats the Matter Shonen Fans??
Thought the Gon after he got his ass kicked will have some sort of a monologue and memories bla bla
then transforms, ssj, or go berserk and defeat Hanzo???
no way HxH (does not) have any of this typical shonen shit
that's why HxH is the Best :)

I agree, most would probably give up after the first hit when they realized that they don't stand a chance...
I also don't mind the OST(I haven't watched the older anime version) and I also love the ending...

I read this part of the manga. The funny part was not funny in the anime but hilarious! Goodness, Kishio Daisuke's tsukkomi voice was great. Also, Fujiwara Keiji, awesome as always.

Well if you remember, Hisoka cut off a guy's arms, so 1 applicant less. Hence 404 total

Hisoka cut one of the guys arms off (prior to the first phase), so there is 1 less applicant.

I don't see why so much people are complaining about this episode. It wasn't much different that the original HxH fight between Hanzo and Gon, just a few minor skipped wall jumps and face-to-floor scenes. Censorshio? There wasn't even much blood to begin with.

Crap.....

Anyway the explanation is in episode 20...halfway through, since it was in the chapter succeeding the fight one.

Good episode. The original was better with this even though most of those things didn't happen in the manga such as the wall jumps and all that. The dark atmosphere made it more serious and there was more content as to why Gon was special and all. I usually don't complain or compare this to the original but just felt like I had to say that. This was fateful to the manga though so it's all good. I still really liked this episode so don't misunderstand. Can't wait to see the next episode though, a lot of people probably won't see it coming due to Togashi's unpredictable awesome story telling.

Great episode here. Gon is a very stubborn person. Kept that going for three hours straight. Also great to see a taste of how people were ranked, since you could see how Gon would get so many chances he was able to liven up that whole room there. Gon is truly an interesting fellow. Next ep preview already has me excited. I can't wait for it to come.

the 1999 version is leagues better, i don't even know where to begin.

there's really no problem if you're enjoying this version, but not recognizing the quality of the 1999 episode is another matter altogether.

somehow i feel a bit pissed, their was absolutely no fighting in this one, even if this wasnt about the actual fight battle, they also reused cutscenes, and all the hits were offscreen. im sure we saw som of the hits in the old one. butgon's stupidity made me laugh just as much as the old one.

for those of you who have watched Old HxH and are disappointed with quality aspects of this show. you have to understand that back then....studios still cared about quality. these days...if they can cut a corner, they do that one....and the one next to it.

one kind of has to forget the old HxH and not compare them.

There are certain things that the 2011 version can improve without spending a lot of money and effort

Gon v Hanzo's fight would have a more suspenseful atmosphere by just making the lighting dimmer or the walls darker rather than it being neon white....that isn't difficult, and it does not make the anime any less suitable for kids.

Given that Gon's fight is meant to be partially funny, I give a pass on the neon white room, but from the preview, i cant imagine what Killua's fight is going to be like in a brightly lit room, the atmosphere just ain't right

There are some moments that i thought the 2011 version animated beautifully well (ignoring the OST), namely Gon's night chase of Hisoka, the snake cave and Gon's talk with Kurapika during sunset, which all happened in a darker colour setting.

All they have to do is make the color tone darker and the atmosphere will be there

Lol, in reading these forums over the months that this has been airing, I've seen a lot of people nitpicking small little details just to make it look bad compared to the original. I'm one of the few fans of the first one that will say that I've enjoyed this remake just as much if not more (mainly due to pacing) than the original.

THANK YOU. Now I know I'm not alone...

As someone who watched the original anime even before reading the manga, I have to say that the team who make the remake is doing a great job, and frankly I like the remake a bit more than the 99 version. I re-watched all ep of 2011 up til now and realized that they are getting better and better! And I also need to say: the person/people who made the storyboards really knows how to draw good expressions for the characters!

To people who complain about the censoring: you already know WHY they have to censor several scenes. And let me ask you this: could YOU have done it better if you were in charge of the censoring?
The director is doing a good job. The censor scenes with Killua in ep 7 and ep 11 are very creative (and shows Killua's brutal/cruel side just fine).

Kisami: "you have to understand that back then....studios still cared about quality. these days...if they can cut a corner, they do that one....and the one next to it."

No offense, but how could you know that? You would have to work (or watch people work) at a studio to know that.

Quality of a show has nothing to do with how old or new it is.

Last, this ep: I liked the remake's version a bit more. Original one was good too, though the animation quality always bothered me. I think MADHOUSE did a fantastic job with it overall. I like how they showed that Killua envies Gon (and it made me feel closer to Killua).

Ps: I'm NOT trying to pick a fight with anyone.

I honestly like the fact that HxH is being animated again and can't wait for it to go passed where the previous series had left off.
