In the staff commentary of Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica Blu-ray vol.6, Urobuchi Gen has announced that he is working on the next work of madoka.

Urobuchi: It's been quite short since I began to work in the anime industry, but I was fortunate that the producers of Madoka let me do in my own way. In order to show my gratitude to the staff, I'm struggling to work out ideas of the next "thing". I think I can announce it someday.
Yuki Aoi: Second season? Second season?
Urobuchi: I'm twisting my brain now.
Yuki Aoi: There could be a parallel world or a different ending?
Urobuchi: Possible. We won't let Madoka go.

Can't say I didn't see this one coming, but... seriously? I'm not too happy with the idea of the second season - the story was concluded and any further productions with Madoka at the main stage would be nothing more bur milking the franchise.
On the other hand it's Urobuchi, so... I shall sleep peacefully for now and wait to hear some more about that.

I think the the ending is nice enough, do not really need a second season, but if it's
an extra episode that explains more about madoka's ending(a little explanation maybe?), maybe it's okay.
But well, as long it did not effect the awesomeness of madoka, I guess I'm okay with it.
This is a signature.

Some spin-off / alternate world / other place thing would be nice. Urobuchi Gen is not as stupid to create a follow-up anime, because that would be useless. The only way, however, I would agree of a follow-up would be if they skip some years, put some new mahou shoujo in it and defeat Kyubey for real. But I'm not sure whether that would be a success or no, because it could be too clichéd.
Either way, I'm waiting eagerly for some new Madoka.

I think a second season would be a terrible idea. If they do do something more with the series, I'd hope its some story that has nothing to do with the characters that we already know aside from one or two references. The story of Madoka was already told in full, I really can't think of how they could add any more to it.

I'll probably watch it regardless. I heard somewhere that Shinbou want Urobuchi to
so I'm not exactly surprised. Not sure on the source for the Shinbou thing, but I'm hoping that Urobuchi stays resolute.

It would be pretty awesome if the next Madoka project would be a light-hearted slice of life series set in an alternate reality, that's pretty much the only way I would accept a new Madoka series.

I wonder if it has to do with Homura's black wings, maybe Madoka trying to save her from falling to darkness?

Anyway, I can't imagine this to have the same impact as the first season. I agree a slice-of-life prequel would be cute, or something insanely goofy and random like Haruhi-chan no Yuutsu LOL. Actually, it would be so rad to see the historical figures as magical girls. Puella Magi Joan of Arc Magica FTW

Madoka has no real basis for a sequel or prequel but the anime was immensly popular and sold alot so they need to milk this cow for all its worth.

Still im curious and would give it a chance if its similar to the original. If they go with a lighthearted aproach i will be disapointed.

It is not really announcement. Reading 2ch, the likely possibility is movie production. Who knows? It might be trolling. I think Urobuchi's just throwing possibilities, but it does seem to be true that he is thinking about some new developments he can get from Madoka Magica franchise.

But seriously. I don't believe this is enough solid to become a news article.

That part is troll. Urobuchi said himself that he has nothing to do with that development. It is just trolling by Shaft, that has no meaning but analysis-bait.

Wouldn't be remotely interested in a mundane, slice-of-life series ... the school parts were the only parts about Madoka I found boring, really, and a show of nothing but them would be terrible.

I am intrigued, but want to know more about what they plan on doing with it. A side story, a future tale of Homura and her black wings, a prequel? I'll probably watch it regardless, unless it's non-magical SoL.

Urobuchi cannot possibly make anything that is remotely similar to slice-of-life + pure combination story. It is simply impossible, knowing his philosophy.

I personally like the idea of a slice-of-life story; they can't let Madoka die. Plus I'm hoping the others live to see another day (personally being Sayaka and Mami fans!).

However, it's more likely to be a special, or a series of specials. Whatever it'll be, I don't think they'll want to disappoint the masses and masses of fans.

True. I mean, Urobuchi is basically saying 'I am struggling to think about writing new story'. That's it, NOTHING else is being planned. Just remember that the script of Madoka was basically finished 'THREE YEARS AGO' due to Shaft's shaftness. If Urobuchi just starts to write new script now, it will take at least 2 years for it to be animated if it is usual Shaft I know. u.u~~~

Masterpieces don't need sequels. BUT
Since it's Urobuchi we're talking about here, whatever he intends to make is definitely going to be really good. The only thing is that it probably won't be as good as Madoka.

Never be. Oriko sucked, Kazumi is weak. Madoka that isn't written by Urobuchi is meaningless.

I stand by my theory, and I'm positive there won't be a sequel. It doesn't need one. I can see how they can't let the money tree go though, so maybe it's a spin-off or alternate retelling.

One thing that I love about the madoka story is that it portrays each girls' struggle in this twisted system. The true enemy is not any witch but the whole mahou shoujo mechanism itself.

A sequel will be just another typical MS series without much to fight for. Even if there's still negative energy and despair, it just won't feel the same.

However, seeing the struggle from another perspective with no chance of redemption will be interesting. However the original 5 already covered the basics so it would be interesting if Urobuchi could come up with something emotional once again.
