Man, you just never know what they can find out there in the wild. It's cool there's still railroad tracks and they managed to find the ores they were looking for this episode.

Definitely got some adventurous vibes from the episode with the goofy map stuff. Cute.

nice for imari to take the helm for once. i'm glad she was able to overcome this trip's issues without nagi to guide her.

Great episode.

Really loved how this episode focused on Imari, shes a really underrated character and deserves a lot more love. I 'm hoping she gets more screentime like this time :)

I think that the animation had less chance to shine this episode. I wasn’t a fan of the chibi animations throughout the episode. The content of the episode was awesome. I love their excitement and reactions. But the animation didn’t feel as good in this episode as it did in previous episodes.

Y’all just don’t know what these girls mean to me, man. I’m gonna be so sad when this ends at the end of the month. Love getting some focus on Imari, Seto and Ruri have had so much development lately, but our 2nd in command needs some time to shine. It’s so cute how much Seto looks up to her and I think this episode was a big confidence builder for her.

It’s funny how sometimes your original plans falling apart can lead to an even better outcome. The cave being blocked let the girls find tons of Manganese ore and I really felt Seto’s whole “I’m just as attracted to the nature and people involved and the changing times” line got paid off here as we got to find out about the struggles of the rail workers and how desperate they were to continue their journey. Oftentimes, the things we find in our environment are reminders of those who came before and the world of yesterday. It’s like a frozen time capsule!

Really good episode, I love these girls sm.

Weekly dose of pretty rocks and somehow it kinda looks yummy like a jelly, I must be hungry.

Unfortunate that they weren't able to pass through the tunnel to their main destination, but they found something that might even be better.

I love how Ruri's mentor-figure is Nagi, but for Shouko it's Youko. Great episode as always!

I'm glad she found the explanation for the ore on the track. I had suspected a car had derailed or even an entire train, but that scenario of bulking up the tracks was much better.
And I wish I had some of those crystals, DAMN those are awesome!

That cold open fooled me. We’re so used to the bright and vivid colours when it started with the dark lighting and dull colours I thought I stumbled upon another show by mistake. The intentionally low frame rate helped sell us the feeling of Youko reading the novel.

Shame Nagi was occupied so Youko had to take the lead. Having said that, it’d make a valuable experience for her. Meanwhile, Shoko had got quite attached to her so she had no issues with the arrangement.

Love the part at the tunnel entrance when the background music abruptly stopped as Youko imagined the train passing by. It made us extra focused on the visuals.
Authentic.

Imari should have more confidence because with her lead, this is this anime's best episode yet.

It's Imari's time to lead and I find it pretty funny that it has been happening more lately as Seto joined the group. She really sees her more as a senpai than Ruri. Going into the theme of the episode, it's cool that the episode was not only on the minerals themselvs but on the actions of the miners and the people transporting them. It leads to all sorts of theories and an engaging discussion as a result. It's cool to see more points being brought up to see mineralogy in another good light. And of course the animation is as always sparkly as ever.

Only 3 more episodes, I'm gonna miss this when it's over.

Imari took reins this time, it was fun to watch her fumble through bringing the two junior mineralogists along for a mountain hike in search of a manganese mine, but damn Ruri sure was roasting her the whole time lol, I know it’s all jokes but Imari doesn’t deserve to be cooked like that. And while it seemed like the rock journey was ended abruptly because of the collapsed tunnel, they turned the bad situation around when they found a lot of manganese along the tracks, an awesome find, the manganese cracked open looked really beautiful.

And I also liked the brainstorming on Imari’s part regarding why there was valuable ore used as ballast (I never knew what this word meant until today lol), the way the novel she was reading tied in was very cool, I really liked the style of the novel segments too. Ngl I thought the train got bombed or something due to the time period but it turned out to be something a lot more noble, I’m sure that was hell to do in the pouring rain like that, lots of respect to those railroad workers.

Was confused because they kept using the term "ballast" for the track bed, until it turns out it was a borrowed term from the nautical use of stones for stabilization of ships.

Imari was pretty chuffed about solving the mystery of why they used high grade ore as ballast and the girls got some pretty crystals to add to their collections.

Even though it was without Arato, it was a lovely mine exploration episode, Imari is sure a passionate and it was cool to get a focus on her this time, especially that we got the explanations to why these rocks were here at the end. It sure looks beautiful when it's a plain black rock and the inside is beautiful pink or with red crystals :o

Turning setbacks into opportunity and drawing inspiration from all places is the theme for this week's episode. While Ruri Rocks may be about mineralogy, ideas for solutions when one least expects it is something people from other branches of science can appreciate, as Imari finds when she answers the question that had lingered on mind after finishing her novel.

@Aleksu The original manga and the show itself put so much good effort into promoting mineralogy that I wouldn't be surprised if it was all organized by the Japanese Institute of Mineralogy or something, lmao.

So uh.... anyone want to take a guess what that manganese ore was being used for and why it was so critical for them to prevent a delay in the supply chain?

I'm pleasantly surprised how fresh this show is staying even in these later episodes. This time we get rid of Nagi so that Imari can have the spotlight. Is Ruri now the logical one of the group? (Gotta push on, or come back with overnight supplies, I say!) Seto has a lot of cute moments this episode now that she doesn't feel shy around the others. And I love the exploration/hiking vibes, I'm sure people who enjoy historic sites got a kick out of this episode like I did. The intersection of two different stories, of people who lived very different lives... the history of each place is something that we will just have to imagine, by immersing ourselves in the quiet of the location...

It never ceases to amaze how much you can tie some minerals with interesting history. Though the sneaky Showa reference and not mentioning the second great war did not slide by me, however it is an accurate portrayal of Japan would portray that era.
