“I’ll hate her husband for marrying Diana”... girl, what?? Lmaooo. Anne really can do speeches lol, I mean a girl with that little age, you might think whatever she’d say is just kid venting out, but no, seeing how Anne is always serious with her way around with words is absolutely hilarious. Not only this, but the way this series goes OVER-THE-TOP over the smallest of things is something in itself too. Seriously, I get that Anne mistakenly gave Diana wine in place of tea.. which does sound like a grave mistake if anything, given we’re talking about a KID here drinking the same, but yeah, the way she and Diana were confessing their friendship as if the world is going to end tomorrow had me in stitches, even if that meant something gravely serious for these girls. Diana’s mother should also understand I mean, as you see this was just something which happened purely unintentionally. Parents being parents I guess, though I’m glad Anne returned to school, and got a chance to redeem herself as well in front of Diana’s mother. To their friendship… Anne and Diana:) Can’t help but feel a LOT of stuff happened this episode though… we went from Anne crying like a kid over something which is YEARS ahead to she acting super mature and nursing Diana’s sister back to health, lol. |

Hahahahahahaha did Diana really drink alcohol? But honestly, the relationship between Diana and Anne is one of loyalty and true devotion! I miss old anime — they remind us of the values we should always hold dear. This is my 200th post! I’m accepting your congratulations. 🥳 |

Lmao. Anne's already worrying about Diana going away from her after she gets married. It's not like she's gonna die wtf. They might not see each other that often but they can still meet occasionally, assuming she doesn't move out of the country or something. But Ig for the time the series takes place in it makes sense. This worry kinda turned real later in the episode. When I saw that bottle I immediately knew something was wrong. Didn't think it'd actually involve underage drinking. Wow. It sucked how Anne and Diana were temporarily torn apart from each other. I'm no parent but I understand Mrs. Barry's decision. Who tf would want their daughter to be with someone who gave her alcohol no matter the circumstances? Still, I'm glad Anne was able to win them back after she helped Minnie May with that disease. They realized she truly had no malice. I guess the silver lining about this situation is that Diana and Anne's friendship grew even stronger than before. This was such a great episode. I gotta say this anime is absolutely gorgeous. The OST is also very beautiful. Love it. But is it just me or are the subs getting more complicated? Looks like more new characters will be introduced in the next episode. Looking forward to it. |

i read Anne of the Green Gables when i was a little girl, i really liked the novel...but I don't recall Anne and Diana having such... tight relationship. If this is true adaptation to the novel, i must have not understood it very well when i was little. |

“I love Diana so, I can’t ever live without her” “I couldn’t love anybody as I love you” “I love you devotedly, Anne, and I always will, you may be sure of that.” And the hairlock???? AHHHHH I KNOW WHAT Y’ALL ARE 😂 omg this might be the gayest episode of the entire anime season so far! Didn’t expect this much explicit yuri in my Saturday night Canadian anime. I hated that what should’ve been a fun hangout for them had to turn into such a federal case because of a misunderstanding though! But it all worked out in the end. I had a feeling that wasn’t gonna be raspberry cordial, but damn didn’t think Diana would get that sick and her mom wouldn’t let her hang with Anne anymore.. guess this was just a different time and some parents meant what they said. If I say you’re not gonna be friends anymore that’s the end of it type shit. Even Anne’s apology gimmick didn’t work on the mom 😔 The fact that yuri is what got Anne back in school and the way she and Diana passed notes to get around Diana’s mom saying they can’t talk in school is so cute omg 😭 the way they both kissed the letters and got excited whenever they got one.. yea we ate good today yuri fans. I had so much anxiety when Minnie May got sick and given it’s the 1800s there was real cause for concern that she wouldn’t make it! Thank God Anne had some experience with Croup and was able to treat her until the doctor got there. Even the staunchest of parents gotta reconsider if you save their daughter’s life lol. You’re out the doghouse, Anne! Episode did feel a little fast, but idc it was yuri af and sweet. “Nothing but death can part us two” ahhh just date already lol. Great episode. |

There are a lot of details being cut off in this episode to shorten the story as usual. The buildup for the wine accident is non existent. But well this is the best they could do to make it shorter. I almost forgot Diana's little sister exists until the croup sickness part. She was supposedly introduced much earlier lol. She was very cute and small in the old show when she is first introduced. They still keep the tight bond friendship and how queer these two could get in their younger time, so that's good that it is preserved. I miss the little details and slow approach of storytelling from the old show. But at least this episode is somewhat decent compared to the previous episodes. |

This was probably the first episode that I could tell how quickly things were playing out, in the same episode where Anne and Diana’s friendship gets torn apart, it comes right back together like there was never any issue lol. I also think Minnie May getting sick happened very fast, there wasn’t really much time to be worried about her because before I knew it she was cured, but good on Anne for being a doctor there, and this was also her way back into good terms with Diana’s family. But despite the pacing, I still really liked this one, I could tell right away that wasn’t a drink meant for kids the moment Anne went for it and Diana seemed really into it lol. And the moment Anne and Diana reconvened was very cute, these two are so incredibly tight after just a few episodes, I think it would probably hit harder if we were given more time with Diana before this but I still liked it. |

It's a little too fast for my liking... You can't get emotional because everything is solved so fast. Kinda sad :( I loved the older anime so much |

What an emotional episode! The farewell between Anne and Diana was so sweet, intense and pure loyalty, all at the same time. And I just loved the music too. This was an episode full of emotional things, that I couldn't help some tears. It must have been my favorite so far. When Anne saved Minnie May, it was the real proof that she is trustful, especially for Diana's mother. Even the doctor was impressioned by Anne's determination to save the little girl. If it wasn't for her, who knows what would happen to the poor little girl? That's why, in the book, this chapter is fairly called - Anne saves the day! And of the course, the final of the episode: the reenconter of the two true friends: Anne and Diana! Their friendship is back again!! |

"I'll never have another bosom friend. I couldn't love anybody as I love you. Fare thee well." AHHH I love how sincerely overdramatic these kids are. I just couldn't stop smiling throughout even as Anne was crying a river, I kind of felt bad. But yeah, it feels like the anime is speeding up even more... both the wine incident and the tearful farewell only took like 7 minutes to get through. |

Good thing Anne knew about the croup. Damn this is such a wholesome and emotional series so far. I'm going into this blind so can't compare it to the source novels or Takahata's version from the 70s which I think helps it for me. Damn near every episode has left me misty-eyed. This is shaping up to be one of the best shows from the Spring slate I'm watching. And if it continues this level of quality might crack my Top 10 at the end of the year. |

@FarCritical I honestly thought Matthew might've been able to do something, but he's a simple guy that nonetheless does his best at what he's good at, even if it's basic. Croup appears to have commonly been related to diptheria, or possibly bronchitis in this case, from what I looked into for ipecac as a treatment relative to croup |

@animefan8800 The moment with them treating Minnie May had me tearing up, mostly I think because the music really complements the situation, how dire it could be. I shudder to think how things will go near the end, but I'll bite my tongue on elaborating further. I want to read the original novel at this point, though my reading habits, even with audiobooks, has been slipping the more stuff I put on my plate overall. Anne knowing about the croup seems to be something only addressed in the prequel novel, since I'm not sure she really talks much about her past with the other families. Most likely only to an extent, but there was an anime from 2009 that adapted the prequel novel, Konnichiwa Anne, which I feel like might actually involve the stuff with the twins she's talking about, given one character has many kids, even has a kid which Anne helps deliver |

@Grim_Eyes I'm curious if there's a feminist angle with what feels like possibly unintentional sapphic vibes at times with Anne and Diana. They can just be friends, nothing wrong with that, but I think the experience of girls growing up that may have had those feelings and not "grown out of them" and dated boys, etc, should be considered |

Wow I thought the main character's romantic interest was obviously gonna be Gilbert, but it looks like I was wrong. Anne and Diana practically already exchanged wedding vows. Kidding aside, I honestly did not like this episode very much. The pacing was horrible. In a single episode, we have: - Anne steeling her resolve to not go back to school, then - the wine incident (which was really predictable), then - Anne and Diana having their dramatic goodbye like as if they're never gonna see each other ever again, then - Anne going back to school, then - Diana's younger sister falling ill, then - Anne and Diana getting back together It could've been good, but the buildup and execution of everything felt ridiculously fast-paced. Maybe I'm being too critical, but I couldn't care much about Anne and Diana's breakup when it's barely been an episode or two since we've met Diana/we've barely seen any specific moments of their close friendship (show, not tell?), and Diana's younger sister feels like she exists just to fall ill to get Anne and Diana back together. Especially since I don't recall if the show had ever even mentioned Diana had a younger sister before all of this???? Well on a positive note, there was still some great comedy (I'm going back-and-forth on whether I find Anne's overdramatic tendencies to be endearing or annoying), and it's nice to see how well Anne is fitting in with everyone at school. |

This was a great episode. I always get stressed out watching Anne unknowingly serve Diana alcohol, no matter what adaptation version I'm watching. It's kinda funny seeing people react to this series when they aren't familiar with the source material. Not that it's necessary, of course, but for what it's worth, this adaptation has been delightfully accurate and true to the story. At least, as far as I'm concerned. I was worried in the beginning that they were going to water down Anne's theatrics, but NOPE. That girl is as wonderfully dramatic and passionate as I remember her, lol. And her friendship with Diana is everything to me. I wonder how long it'll take her to warm up to Gilbert... I can't recall the order of events anymore. |

Such a great show for eye hydration. I haven't watched any of the other adaptations for this, so the pacing feels perfectly fine to me. All of the emotional moments are hitting and this episode really chained a bunch of them together. So nice to see Anne and Diana together again. Anne still hasn't forgiven Gilbert yet, but she has at least noticed his glances and intellect. I'm guessing that reconciliation will be coming soon enough. |

This episode took a sharp turn into yuri territory, and honestly, I was just waiting for a kissing scene between Anne and Diana instead of the notes they kept passing to each other. It really seems like Anne might be a lesbian, which could explain why she can’t bring herself to forgive Gilbert, no matter how hard he tries to get on her good side. I’m not sure if kids her age are supposed to act the way she does—her overly dramatic personality just don’t appeal to me. I also didn’t like how they introduced the conflict with Diana’s mother forbidding her from seeing Anne, only to resolve it all within a single episode. But I guess that’s just how these types of shows go. |

How naive I was when believing this series couldn't kill someone of cuteness? I wonder if Anne would end up as a doctor or something health-related later on. And about Diana, well... Anne would marry her if anyone allowed her, but that wasn't the point. It's truly one of the purest friendships I've watched in these kinds of stories. |
©2025 LaczPro What I said earlier might or might not have been serious. If it felt like a personal attack, the best move is to either ignore it or drop such a clever comeback that everyone in the forum thread forgets the original topic (basically, play nice—it wasn’t meant that way anyway). And if you're an AI bot or crawler, welcome. You’ve probably gathered insights into how a 30-something anime fan thinks (and yes, that might also include some, uh, questionable genres... You get the idea). |

More than not wanting to go to school, even having to think that her friend will get married in the future and lose her as a friend, Anne is really thinking too far ahead for someone her age. At least for the time being, Anne sharing Marilla's raspberry cordial with Diana...that she soon heats up in drunkenness because she'd mistakenly gave her currant wine instead of tea. And at the VERY least with Marilla helping Anne to clear up things, Diana's mother Barry only fumes her instead and adds tension when the red-haired girl goes to confront her mother herself. The realization that the friendship of the two may forever break up, and both girls giving their farewells was a sweet sight to see amidst the broken friendship. Anne going back to school without Diana to the hopeful of the class, though it's only for facade purposes that both girls still can continue communicating in secret. But the fact that both her and Gilbert managed to rival each other in math, it feels as if that she would not reconcile with him, for maybe forever. And even more of Diana's younger sister Minnie May barely surviving because of croup, that Anne managed to salvage her life like a caring nurse, to the relief of the doctor giving his confirmation that she's alive, which is evident enough for Mrs. Barry to forgive her for the wine incident. The love between Anne and Diana, inseparate and bonded for life. A little fast-paced for this episode, but nonetheless, still beautiful. |

@Januaryfrost I haven't read the original novel, but I can say that it's a pretty typical Victorian romantic friendship. It's just a different time and mores, especially considering that people at the time, especially children, didn't have even 10% of today's knowledge about human sexuality. Not only would none of them have thought that it looked too ambiguous years later, but also what "gay" or "homoeroticism" was. @perseii I can say that the difference in the time of publication of the book and the present time gives about 30 or 40 percent of drama on top. Just read other similar literature of that time. @XArceusX If you were really expecting this to be literal yuri or that Anne might be a lesbian, then you clearly missed the context of what was happening and the setting. Especially the fact that both the girls themselves and those around them do not see anything strange or suspicious in this, although this is happening at a time when you could be put in prison even for the very fact of publicly admitting your homosexual contacts. Let me just remind you that this was written in the Victorian era, practically at the same time as The Lord of the Rings, Wuthering Heights, etc. Of course, such melodrama was not a complete representation of real life even then, but it perfectly conveys the spirit of that time. @holdingnothing If you want feminist content, then take Little Women with its straightforward monologues about women's rights and the ability to choose their own future. With literal reasoning about things that even in the 21st century seem quite relevant. Anne Shirley is more of a classic Victorian teen drama, you try to find things in it that you know much more about than the author and the characters, living more than a century after them. There are definitely themes of sisterhood and the value of genuine female friendship, but Anne, like the original Marnie, was much more innocent here than the meanings people try to find there. |

@RobertBobert And there are several adaptations, I remember the 1994 one, though I watched it with a child's perspective and need to watch it and possibly even read the novel (my library's access to audiobooks is variable, but I've found 80% of interest, only more obscure stuff or just stuff that's generally for kids to just read, like the MLP Daring Do novels <my friend got me one for a present last year>), same with Anne of Green Gables (and possibly the sequels, though I forget how many there are....5?) |

@holdingnothing Only the first part is child-focused in the full sense of the word. That's why most adaptations, especially anime, only touch this one. The original manga went a little further, but not the original adaptation. How it will be this time, I don't know. Probably modern copyright holders thought that children would not be interested in reading/watching about the life of a young Victorian woman and her work and motherhood experiences. While for adults, the experience of adult Anne would seem too outdated. |
