Man, I'm going to miss those fascinating insights and talks about the heretical subjects.

Albert hasn't been here too long for the season but he's already becoming a fascinating character too, with his past connections. Even in this season finale, I believe it captured the character emotions really well. The various shots of the characters looking into the sky also felt very symbolic. Truly a unique show from start to finish imo. My only complaint is the dark backgrounds although it's understandable given the nature of this series and its settings. 8/10

So yeah, after putting the puzzle pieces together thanks to last week's comments, it seems that we've gone into some type of alternative universe on some Fate type beats, where yes... Rafael a fucking psycho.... I mean, what the actual FUCK??? Bro MURDERED his dad. Great little last minute twist since we already did know about his dad’s death, but no way did we see that coming lmao. I think that now with the knowledge that Rafel/Rafael aren't the same person, I just can't help but think about how good it all really was because it really showed how any “one” truth can go either way, good or bad.

I think what really got me now that I know that these aren't the same Rafal's, was that I guess now it was technically Rafael popping up right after Nowak died last episode. Nowak died thinking he was the bad guy, but then boom, Rafael rolls in and is also a bad guy. Just proves anyone can be a hero or a villain depending on whose story you’re looking at. That’s why you gotta see all the “truths, not just your own. Amazing man. And yeah, Albert finally found his resolve thanks to the mysterious priest behind the confession who I believe is that one dude who torched his friend a while back in some episode.

And yeah, what a great way to end it with that little letter, which we all know who's it is... I mean, only one person could've wrote a letter saying "About the Movement of the Earth". And the little afterword or whatever, which connects and wraps everything back to actual history.. wow. Jesus man, what a show. Deserves all the praise and hype it got, truly one of the best to come out of the decade, for sure. Saturdays really won't hit the same anymore now that this is over.

Rafal introducing Albert to the research team, as well as giving a toast to knowledge, his young future seems bright.

Rafal referring Albert to the discussions of researchers and the various topics, this was certainly a special day to experience, one that's worth sharing to his father for. Alas, Rafal killing his father, while giving his viewpoint that his material encloses a theory that he was profoundly interested in, it would only be Rafal to express that theory better while his father feared for political reprisal against himself and his son. And that self-knowledge, against the former's thinking that all knowledge should be shared for the beauty of the world, and that sacrifices have to be made.

That pretty much sums up Albert's father, and himself over what Rafal told him, so much so that this "power and knowledge" is foolish under the guise of humanity. But it's precisely because of humanity, where contradictions and ambitions exist, that these so-called "miracles" are what makes the world beautiful, which Albert didn't end up embracing the miracle. Even the private priest talking to him shared his side of the view, which aligns much with Albert's worries. Factor in God's providence, and humanity thinks as they go, though to get that price of the world, the answers will have to be found on his own.

The world's beauty, along with curiosity, sets off the chain of events that would see Albert embrace the stars and signs in the night sky with unavoidable sacrifices, with the thaumazein that would help propel him to greater heights. And attending university under his full name of Albert Brudzewski, gives him the opportunity to paint the world according to how he sees it, how generations past have done the same. And interestingly, same with Potocki's letter earning 10% of profits from the book alone, which Albert knows that's a contradiction, but it ended up paving the way for history to contextualize itself, leading to the one man that would change the face of history forever: Nicolaus Copernicus.

Emotions move people, and those same people made the earth move. And so even today, it continues to orbit.

This is ONE HECK of a profound work. It's Madhouse-ingly brilliant and a great fictional-to-actual story from start to finish.

Can’t believe it’s over. Anime of the year no doubt. Said it from day 1 and I stand on it. What an incredible journey this was. I’m still a bit confused on whether everything was a book from the first 23 episodes or what, but this was such a great conclusion to the series and it’s fitting it delved so deeply into philosophy in its closing moments. Albert choosing to go his own way and stay true to himself was beautiful.

I kept holding out for Jolenta and the others to be revealed to be at the symposium but alas nothing! Nothing could’ve prepared me for that ending though what the fuck!!! Rafal turning into a cold blooded murderer just because someone didn’t want to share that knowledge is crazy. I get why you’d be upset about someone gatekeeping potential scientific advancement, but there’s better ways of dealing with it!

The last 4 minutes with all the previous MCs looking at the sky and that fucking OST.. beautiful.

Also held out for Badeni to be revealed as the confession priest..

COPERNICUS NAME DROP?!!! I’m so glad I didn’t look up Albert’s wiki prior to this because that was so dope. A baker who decided to go his own way ends up mentoring one of the greatest minds of all time. What an ending that’s how you wrap a two cour story up!! Not a single bad episode in this show and I’m going to miss it so much. Glad I got to watch it as it aired.

The author boldly reveals both the greatest and darkest side of human intelligence.

Orb is not a propaganda that praises science while criticizing religion; it shows how "absolute belief"—no matter what it’s rooted in—can lead to terrible consequences.

Wait that's it? Lol. We are supposed to get all excited over the mix of fantasy and reality, alt timeline or whatever for the sake of it? Anyway another coincedence of Albert coincidentally hearing about the theory. Also Copernicus mentioned.

This anime started brilliantly, episode 3 is one of the most impactful episode I've ever watched but sadly it never reached that height again and also felt repetative with very similar/same events happening over and over again. Had it's moments but far from anything extraordinary.

What a masterpiece. That's all I can say about this story and this adaptation. We got to know about Albert and his side of the story with his teacher and the convictions he had about his curiosity. I'm going to miss these characters so much and this thought provoking journey that they were going through.

Even though there were so many people's journeys we followed, I got attached to each one of them and had my fair share of emotional moments with them. I love all of them. Albert ends up being the one who became the teacher of Copernicus and we all know who Copernicus is. It was a beautiful show. So many sacrifices for one thing, The truth of the world.

Cant believe i looked up Albert Brudzweskis wiki last week and saw Rafal mentioned as his teacher and thought it was actually real 🤦.Didnt expect wikis could be changed that easily lol.

Anyways,it was a risky way to tie everything up but i'd say they delivered it properly while still maintaining within how the show always been.As the author said it is up to interpretation, and i could think of a few. Also beautiful touch of change at the very end

Beautiful show from beginning to end, came out of nowhere with little to no expectations and ended up with one of the best anime ive seen.Only been giving out the highest rating only to 4 other shows, but this ones going up there and being the first since watching weekly.

I'm totally shocked by the last twist. I love when artistic freedom is used to fill a hole in the history like this. Ultimately, the truth that was discovered in this anime is not how the Earth move, but how humanity move, by working together, we can solve every big problems, and Cosmological problems are just a part of all kind of problems.

This could be screened in cinema, but I can't see a method that'll allow 25 episodes to be compressed into 2-3 hours.

Albert dropped a fat ? and history changed forever.

Seriously though, the "real" Rafal ending up as a reverse-Nowak was one hell of a chilling final twist, but the afterword detailing how everything culminated in the actual Brudzewski ended up inspiring Copernicus had me in a kind of awe I don't get to experience often.

This filled a void that Vinland Saga left behind and ended up leaving its own sphere-shaped one behind. Damn, man.

The last two episodes were very unorthodox and risky in my opinion, but one that for the most part paid off. This was one of the most interesting and thought-provoking anime I've seen in the past few years and I admire the risks that the series took and the themes on display. A couple minor flaws there and a couple episodes I found fairly dry holds it back a bit from giving it a 10, but this was still an excellent show and one I'll miss. Not too often in 2025 we get a show that's one season and done, and as good as this was. For how much I couldn't get into Vinland Saga, this one managed to keep me intrigued and locked in throughout the entire journey.

I'm a bit speechless. So that priest Draka approached 1-2 episodes earlier, was absolutely right. Neither Nowak nor any of the heretics he ended, would be known to history, including Badeni, Oczy, Rafal, Schmitt, and Draka, which is sad, but it is the truth, since apparently heliocentrism was confirmed publically by a student of Albert who was a student of Rafal. There was such a misunderstanding on my end though. When Rafal sacrificed his life in the pursuit of knowledge, he did it in a heroic way to let his inspiration live on.

However, it is not that easy to take one's life, which completely slipped my mind back when he did, it takes a psychotic mentality to be able to proceed with it, which completely explains what he did to Albert's dad, cuz if he was willing to do so to himself, why wouldn't he do it to others as well? The fact that the author proved to us using the same character that the extreme in one's pursuit could either be good or bad, depending on how it's used. And the fact that Rafal was more putting more effort convincing Albert's dad, than he did when he was murdering him. Like, he was shouting to convince him, till he threatened to burn the materials, then he just offed him with cold eyes and explained why to his son as if it's not a big deal at all.

It completely slipped my mind that bro's a psychopath. My only problem with this though, is that Rafal was never that stupid, i understand that the author was giving us a message, but he made Rafal so intellectual, only to do such a stupid thing & be captured afterwards be the townspeople? If Rafal would do it, he wouldn't do it impulsively like a sociopath, but smartly like a psychopath, so that's the only bit i didn't like. And the fact that after 24 episodes trying to publish a single book to confirm heliocentrism and get their names publicly known, it only gets confirmed through Albert who was merely a victim of one of the pursuiters. The goal was achieved at the end, and the show was such an enjoying and fun ride, but oh how satisfying would it have been if the book was actually published by Jolenta's liberation team, it would've given such a satisfying vibe that everything everyone has been through pursuing the truth and wanting to confirm it throughout all the previous 23 episodes, all the efforts would have finally paid off, yet it didn't.

I mean, it was confirmed publicly through Albert's disciple yes, but by himself, instead of the actual book that kept getting passed on & inherited throughout decades, wouldn't call it wasteless effort, since it had a chance of accomplishment, but it really was meaningless, which was so sad, but oh well, it is what it is. Loved the show, enjoyed it to the max, the ending was beautiful, but not satisfying enough, and that's all i have to say.

@Marinate1016 In fact, it is difficult to say clearly whether it is Badeni or the apprentice inquisitor.

I assume he is the inquisitor's apprentice because he knows that the friend who helped Jolenta escape was innocent.
This friend's great punishment was having helped someone considered a heretic and this bothers the inquisitor after so many years.
Another factor that makes me believe it's not Badeni is the design and the priest's voice, you can't see the eye patch either.

Badeni would never have such a weight on his conscience.

Well, all I can say is that this leaves a void in me. This journey has come to an end, and for almost six months, I enjoyed this true masterpiece. It taught us that a story doesn’t need a perpetual protagonist because, historically, what drives society forward is what people accomplish with the knowledge born from their curiosity, ingenuity, conviction, and even fear. This is then passed down from generation to generation, allowing us to become who we are today—individuals who, collectively, have changed the world without ever meeting each other directly and will continue to do so. To me, that’s the message this final episode leaves behind.

A blend of fantasy and reality that left me fascinated. It’s a shame it didn’t receive more recognition, but for me, it’s the anime of the season and a contender for AOTY. May this gem remain in our memory. Farewell to Potocki, Hubert, Rafal, Oczy, Badeni, Jolenta, Draka, Schmidt, Lewandowski, Nowak, Albert, and of course, Copernicus.

Heliocentrism is my faith. 10/10.

Got a bit confused since the year Albert appears is not right after Draka dies, but he going to university and then because of a coincidence hearing about the ideas from Oczy and Jolenta really represents the idea of doubting and trusting the knowledge.

And of course the connection with actual history in the end is clever, with the author being tricky with the "history will not remember your names" part.

@ZXEAN yes, but paying attention to the priest's dialogue, he says that his friend committed a serious crime while at work. Which leads me to believe that it was in that episode where Jolenta is tortured by Antoni and one of the inquisitor apprentices helps Jolenta escape. This apprentice inquisitor who helped Jolenta escape was killed by Antoni.

Me personally, I prefer Episode 23 to be the finale. I like some of the philosophical bits in Episode 25 — conviction v doubt, that men are social animals, etc — but the timeline is a mess.

It adds this blemish: I did not like the Rafal here who is guilty of manslaughter. I assume that the Rafal in Episodes 24 and 25 has the same name and looks similar to the Rafal we know, but this is a different person.

Episode 25 adds to the confusion. Back in Episode 24, we're all set to the hypothesis that Episodes 1 to 23 are fictional then Episodes 24 and 25 are real.

The problem is, the final scenes in Episode 25 suggests that Albert lives in the same timeline as earlier characters, and I am, huh?????

I also wish that the anime/manga has drawn Copernicus in addition to the exposition dump.

Final rating: 9 out of 10.

Shows is pretty solid. Definitely much better than Shonen and Isekai slop, but it also shoot itself on back with a lot of elements. I don't really think the author initially wanted to do a story, maybe he wanted to do a philosophy book, but either couldn't or wanted a medium where his message would be spread more effectively. Because the writing in here would be be considered incredible on non fiction standard, but this is a story we're talking about.

I feel like I would have trouble explaining my thoughts and people would jump my throat over something they don't understand so I'm gonna leave this video to make people understand better. The video has an example of an obvious bad dialogue (around 2:45 he starts explaining) and I wholeheartedly believe this shows dialogue is pretty much on the same level.

However this show definitely meant a lot to me as time went on. It could definitely be seen as a parallel to the life of someone who grew up with fundamentalist parents and overall family. Specially the horrors of inquisition is the same horrors I felt when if any of my parents would ever find out I didn't believe in their religion. And the show does makes the case that the truth does matter and you shouldn't back down with fear of coercion.

TLDR: Great show, meant a lot to me, just wish the characters didn't feel like robots and the story was delivered in a more nuanced way. 8/10

This is it, this is the end of this phenomenal anime.

Let's start with the beginning of the episode. Rafal's speech about people questioning what's true or not, eventually not having an universal truth is quite interesting, and it's applicable to the present actually.

As I suspected last episode, Rafal was behind the death of Albert's dad, but I wasn't expecting him to be the one to kill, all of this because Albert's dad didn't want to share with Rafal the theory he had (which we can suspect is the heliocentrism theory). This explains why Albert feared knowledge, because both his dad and teacher ended up dying while striving for more knowledge, so therefore knowledge would only bring pain to people.

As Albert noted, it's interesting to see the contrast between Rafal and Albert's dad. In one hand, Albert's dad doubted everything and everyone, which lead him to not progress further into his research, and ended up dying because of that. On the other hand, Rafal was so sure of himself and this strive for knowledge, that didn't doubt for once about the methods he was using to get that knowledge (you can clearly see he was unphased when he killed Albert's dad), which also lead him to not progress further in his research, and ended up dying because of it (it's implied that the townspeople ended up capturing him, and he was senteced, probably to death).
But as the priest states, maybe they both failed because they didn't have both, and it's true. Every big researcher is confident about his research to spend their lives on it, but also doubtful enough to come up with it, and improve it. We've seen this throughout the anime actually, for example with Count Piast, that was able to doubt his research right at the end of his life.

I wonder what story the priest is talking about. Initially, I thought they would reveal he was actually Badeni, and that the friend he abandoned was Oczy, if around episode 12 he just ran away, and didn't come back for his research and Oczy. But I'm not sure if it's that. I think it might be actually Badeni's priest friend, the one that discovered thar Badeni had wrote "Orb: On the movements of the Earth" on the head of the homeless people of the town, and that was actually the one to report Badeni and Oczy, in an indirect way. We actually never knew what happened to him after the time skip, we all just assumed he ended up dying, but that not might be the case, since it's clear this priest is quite old.
But who I think it actually is is that priest young man, that captured Jolenta back in episode 14. Remember those 2? Well, the blonde one, just went back and confirm it, and has a really similar voice to this priest. And his story also checks, since his friend died, because he went against Church's rules. I personally believe it's this blonde young priest (now 25 years older), as its story was left blank after the time skip, and it gives some closure to his character. Now we know he really was against to what happened to his friend, and regrets not doing anything, not following his convictions, something this anime talks about so much.

After this, we get a beautiful scene of Albert looking up in the sky, and contemplating about his father and his teacher, and honestly, this scene gave me the chills, but this was only the beginning. The truth is that for human society to evolve, we need to work together, because we need each other's help to uncover such a big world, just like the anime showed us in the past 24 episodes.

After Albert enters university, we see a scene really similar to what Schmitt did when welcoming the new day, which already gives us some nostalgia, but then we see the comparison os Albert looking up in the sky, followed by Rafal, Oczy and Draka, that all died looking at the same sky. This scene was beatiful and truly gave me the chills. This is how you make cinema. The "Inspiration" that has been passed from generation to generation is well represented in this single segment.

However, by the end of the anime, I was getting confused how this new timeline had to do with what we've seen so far, but in only a minute the anime answered us quite clearly: THIS IS NOT ANOTHER TIMELINE. It's the same one. We finally get to see what was inside the message that Draka sent, as it was Jolenta's last wish, and we actually see that it was for Potocki, the due 10% income of the book. Even if Potocki was long dead, this scene showed they (Jolenta) respected Oczy's decision to include that in the book, and in return, Oczy already respected Rafal's whishes when he left that in the book. It's incredible how they still got the adress correct. This was so wholesome to see, THEY DIDN'T FORGET ABOUT IT. And this scene isn't only wholesome, because it also confirms that this timeline is the same timeline we've been seeing so far, the only difference is that Albert is now inspired in a real person, unlike our previous characters.
And when we thought that everything about the heliocentrism theory died with Draka, this final action from Draka was able to continue the saga, because when hearing this, Albert was like "Oh, what a stupid idea, it's obvious the earth doesn't move, the heavens do", but this was enough for the idea to stay in his head, bugging him out, for years, when he finally projected the first ideas for heliocentrism, later finished by Nicolaus Capernicus, his disciple, and the one that, in real life, finished the heliocentrism theory. And then the anime confirms that Albert, as many people pointed it out, was really about the one that discussed heliocentrism, a theory that was then finished by his disciple.

This final scene is so important, because it keeps the meaning of everything that happened so far in these 25 episodes of the anime, showing that in the end, it was like Rafal said, inspiration would always prevail, and the heliocentrism theory would eventually come out. And it's interesting to imagine that this really happened in real life. Obviously no one knows how Albert came up with this theory, but it's interesting to think about this could be close to the truth!

This leaves the question of who really was Albert's teacher. I think they used Rafal, as a way to give us a bit more to Rafal, since he was only here for 3 episodes, and was such a beloved character. And it also gives us a look at what would happen if Rafal gave up on heliocentrism, and pursued his studies. Probably he would end up always wondering about the heliocentrism idea, just like that consumed Albert's teacher. But I feel like this is open to interpretation by us.

And this is it. This is the end of the amazing 25-episode Anime "Orb: On the movements of the Earth", a cinematic piece that will make you think about the human nature and the meaning of life, with interesting perspectives about these topics brought by the many characters it has.
I absolutely cannot give this anime enought praise. It has such an unique narrative, and makes you think of so many things that you never thought before.
After this anime, I will for sure never look at the sky at night the same way I did before.

The only bad thing I can say about the anime is that the end of the episode could've been more epic, if they started playing out the full version of the opening when the final scenes came, it would have been so good! The way it ended with the normal ending was kinda weird honestly xD

But anyways, I don't have any doubts about the score I'm giving this anime: it's a clear 10 for me!
Not many anime can make you think about such complex matters as this anime, and actually develop them so well.

I'm going for sure to miss this anime. I have been following this for the past 25 weeks (24, since the first 2 episodes came out at the same time), and I'm so very glad I decided to check out this anime, when I was searching anime to watch for the Fall 2024 season. This anime is true cinema, and it trully deserves to become a classic in the anime community. I'm really happy to see it's score rising more and more, and I want to see this anime be talked about for a long, long time, to inspire many people, like Rafal inspired all of the characters of this anime, and also us.
Also, thank you to everyone that has been on this journey with me, commenting weekly here on MAL! It has been a pleasure to read your thoughts! Let's keep this inspiration, and transport it to the next generation!

Edit: Formatation issues, and I cannot leave this detail left around. In this final episode, they made a small difference right at the end, where we see Albert pointing to the sun. This is a clear contrast to what happened in the endings ever since episode 2, since all of the characters ended up pointing to the stars in a dark sky. This might have a double meaning. One is that heliocentrism, for once, is not something obscure, only known to those who research it, there's no more need to hide it, it's now a public theory, a theory that finally saw the light of the day. At the same time, it can also show that although Albert is going to be the one that is going to be recorded in history by helping discovering Heliocentrism, there are so many people (Hubert, Rafal, Oczy, Badeni, Jolenta, Draka, Schmitt) that also helped in the work of that theory, but will always remain in the dark/obscurity, since their names won't be written down in history books, and they won't be remembered, just like Antoni said in episode 22.

10/10 Orbsolute masterpiece.

Took me a while to sort my thoughts on the events on this finale, looking up discussions etc, as it definitely left a lasting impact that made me want that something extra - I love it when shows do that to the viewer. After that - I felt satisfied. I realize it's up to interpretation, but the idea that Draka's letter ended up within hearing range of Albert, passing on that torch of heliocentrism in a very elaborate game of telephone, as well as that priest who witnessed his friend let Jolenta escape being reflective on the events, all while still keeping the events of the series as "lost to history", questioning whether or not they even happened... I feel like it was a very risky play by the author, so I'm glad it paid off, at least for me (And others in this topic who share this sentiment).

I'm hoping that now that the show is over, its ratings will continue to go up (It's already 8.65 / #75 at the time of writing, last week it was 8.5 I believe and earlier during the season I recall it being 8.1-8.2), and I bet some anime youtubers will leap at the chance to make a video about it, so that more people get to watch and enjoy this show. The show isn't underrated by any means, as most people who watch it love it, but it still feels like this show isn't as popular as it could be, and it should be.

Funny that the Potocki letter indirectly lead to heliocentrism actually being accepted. In Jolenta's words: Writings are truly magical.

They really should've hired some kind of historical consultant for these last episodes because some of the laughable mistakes are in plain sight.

So this is supposed to be Cracow Academy in 1468, and here we have:
- a coat of arms of Subcarpathian voivodeship, first introduced in the year 2000,
- a Lithuanian coat of arms (we could let it slide since Poland and Lithuania had a personal union at the time),
- a modern design of Polish coat of arms, which was introduced in 1927,
- something that I think was supposed to be a coat of arms of old Sandomierz voivodeship, except the correct one has stars instead of fleurs-de-lis,
- a coat of arms of the city of Krosno for some reason
