Damn, I almost thought this would be a full sweep fight for Yoshiteru.

Episode also had Mudo and Senya continue their fight, which seemed to have reached its peak. Imo, it's my favorite fight in this franchise so far because of the raw emotions and both fighting for what they believe in. Bring on more!

Let it be known that Shogun was the FUCKING GOAT. Like Hanatora said, shit was really beautiful. Shogun aside, it was about damn time those katawara's stopped being some pussies and actually help Senya fight Mudo. Though, Senya clearly wasn't wanting to fight lmaoooo. Wasn't really a choice though, it's fight or never see Tsukiko again so.

Thankfully, Tsukiko was saved safely thanks to Nu, so Senya could fight not worrying about if Tsukiko would be safe or not. And oh boy, did he give it his all. Though, Mudo shoulda known that as soon and Senya pulled one of the anime zoom-in of their faces, it was wraps. That AND the fact that he started seeing the flashbacks... yeah nah it was wraps. Back to Shogun though, those cloaked dude have finally made their return since last season after ruining the fight between Jinka and the other dude.

Shogun fought till the very end, knowing his death was inevitable. Sasuga Shogun. At least his death wasn't in vain, because he actually got some info on those cloaked dudes. More than anything though, I feel bad for Shinsuke at this point.

Beautiful episode. Couldn't have asked for anything better. Arigato, White Fox.

It's good to know I'm not the only one who think this anime has a lot, or even too many close-up shots.

I might cry if this is the first tragedy of this anime, but this is like the second, no, the third, or even the fourth? For exactly the same reason, even Shinsuke knows that. This anime is in a vicious cycle of creating a lovable character just to destroy it immediately later.

The with the repetitiveness of tragedies, how it was portray and presented always find its way the touch the heart, personally.

The animation left much to be desire…, it just too low quality for a studio like White Fox.

I'm glad Teru put up a fight. He might be dying, but that doesn't mean he can't go out fighting! His death was beautiful and sad... I feel bad for Shinsuke more than anything for not being able to save such an awesome guy.

Senya vs Mudo was also great. It's cool that the thousand katawara inside Senya now have the confidence to beat a dragon. And it seems like Mudo also might've changed. Wonder if he'll become a recurring side character. I hope he does cos he'd make an interesting rival if he doesn't straight-up join the cast.

White Fox cooked with this episode. The post-credits scene was hopeful. Can't wait to see the rest.

Tears man. White fox fed me today. Senya and Mudo was incredible, the mutual respect they developed for each other over the course of the fight was just wonderful, going from a fight of anger to one of pure joy. Once Tsukiko got freed it was just a clash of ideals and that OST for the Senki Yakou attack.. delectable.

“I know senya will come save me awww tsukiko I fucking love yall” 😭 quickly becoming one of my fave ships.

Back on the ground, shout out to Teru man. Stared death in the eyes literally and didn’t blink. Took on all the traitors, took on death itself and only lost because he was distracted. “father, your son fought without running..” man even Hasanora who’s a literal god couldn’t help but get choked up at Teru’s bravery.

Feel awful for Shinsuke who had to kinda sit back and watch everything happen especially after what he went thru with Shaku, but these were the shogun’s final wishes and he got to fly at least once before dying.. amazing episode man, show needs more love

And Tama back next week??

This episode was the definition of peak historical Shonen and it looks like Tama has a lead on Jinka's whereabouts in the after credit scene.

This show is criminally underrated.

Teru exits like a boss, succumbing to the historical character handicap. Senya has agreement within him, and Shinsuke can't seem to catch a break for his own development. Tama is part of that fox. Oh. oh my.

This one was an extremely emotional and amazingly made episode. The credits rolling immediately after his last words was a genius move, making this way more impactful and giving him his moment of silence. Beautiful.

The way the continuation was going, I expected it to be more light hearted than the first season, but this episode hit almost as hard as Shakuyaku's death. It was quite a positive surprise

First five minutes gave me serious Elfen Lied flashbacks, but overlaid with the beauty of the Golden Kamuy episode with Youichirou the Manslayer: old-school samurai and his honour, the dissolving sense of reality, or growing delusion; the thinning veil...

Evan Call soundtrack works wonders.

Such an underrated series that just keeps getting better.

ngl, that fight with Yoshi was pretty awesome. But it's strange, I still don't feel like we got to know him nearly long enough for that dramatic ending they gave him, with the somber credits and all. That felt like the kind of thing you do for a character you have been with for a long time, not someone you met only a couple episodes ago. He was awesome for sure, but I never felt emotionally invested in him.

Also, I really have a hard time taking Hanatora seriously in that ridiculous outfit, I get they didn't want her naked all the time like the manga, but surely they could have come up with a better, less intrusive outfit design for her.

By far the best episode we've had so far and such an underrated show.
White Fox hit us again with an emotional credits roll, quite similar to how they did in episode 15 of Re Zero.
They also went all in on the animation and art for this ep. The music was great too.
I just wish we could have gotten a bit more time with Yoshiteru, but they really managed to make him into a great character in just a few episodes.
This show just keeps getting better.

Ashikaga shows why he's the consummate Shogunate, even against the face of Matsunaga, and it's the same story for Senya against Mudo, to be the king of the dragon gods and all of Katawara. Thanks to Nau, Tsukiko is saved, and the substitute Katawara...just gets junked off the tower, quite the hilarious surprise. But what remains of Senya and Mudo is a show of persistence, and a little human wisdom to know that the thousand Katawara are on Senya's side being able to defeat Mudo.

Back to Ashikaga, and the Group of 5 resurfaces again to invoke all the anger from hatred, though he tries to understand them in the midst of the conflict, only to find himself being killed on the spot by Matsunaga, which Shinsuke has to suffer yet once again on someone being killed before his very eyes. At the very least, he honoured the battle with his wayward wisdom, and what a man to go out like this.

Is Tama finally back to know abut the 1000-tailed fox?

There'll be no Shogun like Yoshiteru Ashikaga, simply a man of honour.

@Zacko Actually, the animation took a nose dive in this episode. The drawings were good, though.

What happened to the production? There are way too many close-up shots and panning during fight scenes to pad the time and remove the animation. Why be so conservative on an emotional peak climax episode?

We've seen better production earlier this cour so I don't get it.

The animation was horrid, there was zero sense of movement and every frame looked way too zoomed in. It's always been inconsistent but this week it was straight up bad. Shame because the general designs and art style really peaked this episode.

I don't usually post on MAL but man.
As an anime-only, the story beats were still as great as always, but... dude. The animation was fucking awful. Like, I wish I read the manga for this episode instead. And I almost NEVER feel that way.

I feel it's a combination of both limited animation and poor direction. Was this episode completely outsourced?? All those closeups and still frames. I went to the manga chapter for this episode and they were just fuckin tracing the shit too. What the fuck man. Even the art which has been consistent until now, had really bad moments too. The voiceacting and lipsyncing was also really off. By the end of Senya's fight I was just so turned off.

There were some nice scenes while Shogun confronted those five, otherwise, man. If this was purely a directive choice, I am begging they never hire whoever directed this episode again, at least not for the climax of an action shonen like this. You can pull off limited animation better than this, just look at Isekai Shikkaku this season for example. I blame the director.

Last episode was so fire. Watching this episode last night was so, so disappointing for the climax to this arc. What the fuck.

I agree that the animation was "limited", especially with Senya vs Mudo, but everything else was great. The art especially was top notch, there were tons of detailed and beautiful drawings. The storyboard and direction was also great, it really nailed the emotional aspect and did a great job at portraying the might of the shogun.

Just my 2 cents though. It isn't anywhere near as bad as Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer and that's enough for me lol.

This hit pretty hard; the shogun was such a good character. Sword has a new name, and the demons or whatever finally got their courage back. Kind of reminds of the shogun arc of Gintama, though totally different.

Exciting and dramatic episode, despite everything. The animation was barely there but the art, music and storytelling saved the fights. I still don't know these characters very well, but sympathized with their struggles and fulfillment. Still not sure what exactly is going on and what we're doing here, but had fun.

As soon as episode start, I knew it was going to be serious. I had to look up staff list on AniDB to make sure. And sure enough, Shigeyaru Yamauchi is there. I like his style as it make impactful on me.

Y'all should look him up.
